Trump's team posted the corrected paperwork for the bond in the civil fraud case but it only raises more questions and the AG quickly filed a motion stating that the bond company is not registered to operate in New York and that they would be in violation of another law that limits how much a bond company can post for a client to 10% of their surplus holdings. ...The $175m for Trump would be 127% of their surplus - that is, it's literally more than they have.

On Thursday, Trumps lawyers posted paperwork listing the finances behind two companiesKnight Specialty Insurance Company and another entity named Knight Insurance Company LTDwhich together claim to have assets totalling $2.7 billion. However, only the first of those two is actually listed in the court documents as agreeing to front the money if Trump loses the case.

Knight Specialty Insurance Company alone doesnt have the surplus listed in financial statements to meet the capital requirements for posting the bond. New York law limits how much money state-regulated surety companies can post on a single bond to 10 percent of whats referred to as the firms total capital and surplus.

In a midday court filing, the Knight Speciality Insurance Company revealed that it currently only has $138 million in surplus. That means the bond it has decided to post for Trump smashes through the 10 percent barrier, topping a whopping 127 percent of the companys dedicated reserves.

But just before the new paperwork was filed, Knight Specialty Insurance president Amit Shah told CBS that the company has a novel theory as to why the state capital requirements dont apply to their firm: because Knight Insurance isnt even registered to operate as a surety in New York.

Per the AG's motion, Trump's team has 10 days to "justify the surety." Not sure if that means the court itself can wait until that's addressed or if they have to take an action one way or the other but it seems like unless they simply dismiss the AG's filing and accept it that we're on another 10 day clock.

Well that's a novel new way to delay things.

I think he never actually wanted to move left and always wanted to be more centrist, but the primary kind of forced him to lean into that more than he was comfortable with. Now he's hoping that incumbent advantage will carry the weight for him until he can step down and use this as a door to something less public and more cushy.

However, even before elected as a Senator he was extremely pro-Israel so this in particular should not be a shock. He attacked the Dems who, at the time, voted against funding to Israel's Iron Dome and called them fringe and extreme. He strongly opposed BDS and supported a PA state law that banned the state government from entering contracts with companies that boycotted Israel. He outright said while running in 2022 that he intended to "lean in" to the US-Israel relationship.

While he did hold progressive positions on a host of issues, particularly "popular" ones like marijuana, if you poked around you could find things on certain issues - Israel was probably the biggest but there were others.

I think a lot of people took a look at the issues like marijuana and healthcare, combined it with him being the only statewide PA official to endorses Sanders in 2016, and him just giving off a blue collar vibe and assumed he held progressive stances down the line... but I don't think this is him really changing so much as people finding out where he stood on some issues that didn't make the headlines much at the time.

You would think that by this point in my life I would have learned. I'm Charlie Brown and the football of decent politicians keeps getting yanked away.

I feel like there's a lot of progressives that are pro-Israel too. Israel isn't really divided by left and right. There are Progressives that support Palestine, and there are MAGA who support Palestine. And there are progressives that are pro-Israel, and MAGA who are pro-Israel.

Kinda wild to me though that anyone could look at the death of 7 aid workers and then say "No problem, Israel! Who among us hasn't killed seven aid workers that told us of their positions and everything?"

So when they confronted him with this, the story he's going with now is that the story he's telling (with inconsistency) on the campaign trail is the truth and that he lied to the park ranger about the gunshot in order to protect his former platoonmates from an investigation because he wasn't sure if it was enemy fire or friendly fire.
