I think it's wild that Cloud is doing what he is, I guess people are used to it now but he just sounds so bored all the time.

I was surprised at him in this game. Seems much more nuanced than in 7 where he was just boredsadboi all the time. He's still sadboi but more colored.

The rest of the cast is fine but it's painfully obvious how separately they were recorded. It's really below the bar for a AAA game nowadays. PS2 vibes for sure. Though I feel like even FFX had better direction.

That White Terror wolf in the Grasslands kicked my ass all over the beach. Nice big wakeup call. Made me actually read the yellow lines when I assessed it the second time.

Ok let's not go that far lmao. I've only done through Heavensward, and while it's a huge jump from ARR(because ARR has some of the worst VA in gaming,) that's really not saying much. I know it gets better with each expansion, so when I finally get to Storm blood, I hope it's actually good.

I like most of the voice cast but I just experienced Biggs talking for a while and that was not great.

FF16 VA was way too GOT for me. Everyone's so stuffy, serious, and only emote during battle. This is WAY more fun.

I quite enjoyed FF16. It's an entirely different tone from Rebirth obviously, but yeah, Rebirth is definitely more my jam. Just so much damn more fun in many ways.

FF16 boss battles tho, woooof, those are spectacles.

Yeah, it might not be as "natural" as some top VA work, but I think fun is the right word for it. FFVII stands proud as a JRPG, and I think any attempt to mimic the drama and nuance found in some of its western contemporaries would have worked against it. Oddball, over the top, and slightly awkward work amazingly well here. I wouldn't have liked the characters nearly as much if we got God of War VA or something.

I mean, FF16 guys did well in the few silly scenes. I feel like they'd be just as good in 7R's comedic style

Doing Hard Mode run now. The relief I feel that World Intel and mini-games are done forever and I can just focus on story and side quests with teleports unlocked is probably telling that maybe the game is a bit bloated with checklists. Enjoying hard mode playthrough so much more without them.

No, just more emotion in general. Red has it, Barret has it, Yuffie has it. Cloud, Aerith, and to a lesser extent Tifa do not. These are monotone characters who don't have much range.

Like, Vincent is doing the flat tone and it fits. I don't know why those 3 have the same range he does.

Again, like, Jessie was a better voiced character than anyone in the actual party in Remake. That still holds true.

And it's not like it's out of nowhere! Aerith, Tifa, and Cloud are all amateur VAs who don't have much under their belt, which is why they were chosen. Jessie is an EXTENSIVELY experienced VA. Barrett's VA has a very large resume. Vincent, Yuffie, Red, and Cid, all of them are PROLIFIC. These are industry vets.

Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith are major weak links, and it's extremely noticeable that they are much, much less experienced.

And then Cait Sith doesn't count lol.

I would say passable.

I think this is easily the best VA we've ever had for Aerith. Though she's had a rough history lol

Same, that was probably one of my favorites thus far. This Cosmo Canyon Protorelic quest, on the other hand...

yeah I thought Red Rocket League was one of the easier minigames, and quick enough to be fun for the duration

I fucking loved most of the minigames. They were great at breaking up gameplay and almost all were difficult enough to be stimulating but not hard enough to be painful. And pretty much all were short and sweet so they never overstayed their welcome.

Except for the moogles. Fuck them. Seriously, too many. They are a test of patience and mine ran out.

Don't you have to repeat like all of them? 4 fort condors in a row, 1 forced chocobo sneaking in every new area, etc. I don't hate them but they've def overstayed.

They gave you the chocobo outside of Costa del Sol at least. But I just got to corel so I don't know anything past that

I feel like there is a great game hidden in all this oops all minigames bloat.

But I think overall this is the most 8/10 game I've ever played.

It's a part of one of the more important side quests so like, almost.

I love how dumb and over-the-top Roche is. Also lmao at him being only a 3rd Class SOLDIER, I never realized.

Nothing forces you to do any of that. Not all areas have chocobo sneaking. And at least one is optional.

And Fort Condor is really quick.

I just got the buggy, but went back to Junon to clear up the stuff there because I never explored it at all. Beat Cameron at the Crow's Nest... and that sudden static got me big time. Love it. Game mostly rules. Not a huge fan of Cait Sith but I'll keep practicing during Junon.

Cait takes a bit to get used to. Try and make sure you get in the middle of enemies before hitting Lets Ride and then youll have a bunch of ATB early on to work with.

Before you get his better abilities, I like to spam dice quickly and then do big punches to finish things off. If you position Cait so hes facing multiple enemies you can get Fortune telling to hit a bunch of them with one cast

Just went through the QB tournament. This game is fucking incredible.

Im not sure if you have enough party level / folios yet, but theres also a sphere you can unlock for Cait that lets you get a free level 2 when you first summon the moogle. Really good for a fast early buff for the whole team.
