I don't know the legal differences in the US, but I know that my parents helped run an NPO where they would get cash donations that go into a single coffer and at the end of the year they give out the interest accumulated from that account to projects in their scope of interest. Sounds like that isn't the intention of Jhirard's charity, but at the same time if the money has been sitting and accumulating interest in that way, they could end up giving out more money over time than they actually take in. If the money is still there and awaiting the proper organization that fits in-line with what they want to do, I'm disappointed that wasn't conveyed but I'm also not like, pissed off about it. That money is there and awaiting a place for it to go that makes sense. Part of my caution is that as soon as a video like this is released, the narrative moves into the hands of the mob immediately. I can think of several different types of canceling this year that went from accusation, to flash-fire style mob of hate and fighting online, to the accused coming out with receipts and alternate story that conceded some of the blame yet showed a more nuanced story, one that didn't merit the narrative that had spiraled out of control. I think the most recent was the DBZ / Yugiog comedy dub guys, and there were those SuperMega people for example. There's an element of these allegation social media cycles that is just destructive for the sake of voyeuristic entertainment that I don't like. A big group of people that move from one possible scandal to the next and they live to burn people. While telling your audience you're actively funding a university. With a quote on your website from a dean that got fired for funds mismanagement BEFORE you officially became an NPO. And still promote your fundraisers by saying you're actually funding said university a year or two after "finding out" the money's just been sitting on some bank account.
