This was the other person I really wanted more from.

Sif in Love & Thunder is the absolute worst part of that movie.

She's in there to be a punch line and nothing else. Just a completely baffling inclusion. She would have been better off not even being in it and replacing her with a generic God. The same interaction could have happened.

The best part about Sif in the previous movies was that Thor trusted her enough to open up to her, because he was always reserved enough not to confide in anyone else. And they could have had a meaningful talk about how Asgard fell, and how the last of Thor's only friends from there was dying from a Gorr attack. But instead they just have them babble out some unfunny jokes. Just terrible.

Okay, this is honestly a lot better than I thought he'd fare given what came out.

Reckless assault is when you hurt someone accidentally by being careless. Looking into this, it seems like they were having a fight and she was trying to get out of the car and he threw her back into it, and that's where the injury happened.

From what came out, I was sure he would have gotten the intentional assault charge. But I'm assuming the rest of the case went in his favor after the juicy headlines posted here earlier. I expect he'll get a hefty fine and walk away without anything else. These rarely result in jail time.

But it's looking likely that the truth is more towards him just getting too physical and careless trying to keep her in the car, according to their case he was trying to keep her from running into traffic, and she got banged up from that. And then the text messages seemed like actual remorse for him unintentionally hurting her.

He may well have been a domestic abuser, but I feel like if that was true, he would have easily been convicted of intentional assault.

Ugh, I just went on Twitter and everyone is reporting that he was just guilty of assault and harassment, which while true, is definitely missing the important detail that it's reckless assault, not intentional. And them all saying he's facing up to a year of jail time which, while true that third degree assault can have up to a year of jail time, it's so incredibly rare and he's just going to get a fine.

I think it's important to stress these details because people are going to think he just maliciously beat her or something and that if he gets less than jail time, it will be because he's a celebrity receiving special treatment.

It's true that that could be used as an off-ramp, you could just say that the TVA did a really really good job pruning Kangs I guess. Still feels a little weird, but it could work.

I really don't want them to just drop the plot line. It'd feel so awkward and sudden. So much easier to just recast and move forward as planned.

Deadpool saving the MCU would be incredible.

So I watched an ABC News thing talking about the Jonathan Majors title, and it had videos as well and talked about what happened in the trial itself.

So what it seems like is that Jonathan Majors' girlfriend was very drunk during this whole time, and she was trying to run out into traffic, and he was forcibly throwing her back into the car a few times. It was then that she got the injuries, and that's why it was reckless assault in the third degree. The jury agreed it was unintentional. However, there's also video of him running away from her and them fighting over his phone, which she was trying to take away from him, and she had injuries on a couple of her fingers too over this. The whole thing appears to have started with her thinking he was texting another girl.

During the trial, he had those insane text messages and the jury agreed those were harassment, but the harassment charge isn't even a criminal charge. It's like a parking ticket; it doesn't go on your record or anything.

What I found interesting was that Jonathan Majors didn't take the stand in court. He would have had to explain those insane text messages, and it seemed like he wanted to avoid that. Which is fair. However, had he taken the stand, he might have been able to explain his side more clearly about her taking his cell phone, among other things. It may have helped, but it may have hurt.

But what I think was the biggest screw up is that his counsel decided to go with the strategy of questioning his girlfriend's injuries and talking about how they weren't that bad which is a decent direction to go (even if the images show she absolutely was hurt), but they didn't argue that he had a right to self defense and a lawful right to use force to get his property back. It seems like they wanted to present Majors as having done nothing wrong at all and had never really hurt her that much, but they could have said "Even if he DID hurt her though..." and rattled off that argument. I think if they made that argument, he may have actually been found not guilty of everything. But it was never a thought in the jury's mind that he could have been acting lawfully if she took his phone, so they didn't factor it in.

I kind of understand the insane text messages if he felt he was going to lose everything over this, which he did. Especially since everything points to him not intentionally harming her and just trying to keep her from hurting herself further and trying not to let her take his cell phone. Things escalated, a lot of it by her acting recklessly by being drunk. It's a sad situation.

Mister Sinister is likely to be the primary villain in the MCU X-Men movie.

I mean, Magneto has kind of been done to death at this point, so that makes sense. And you're not going to do Apocalypse again so soon. Sinister was never in a movie before, right?

I don't remember Sinister being in any movie, no. Personally I always kinda liked him, just never imagined him headlining a movie.

I feel like X-Men is the MCU's one and only chance to actually right the entire ship. They might make a good F4 film but if they want to actually stabilize the reputation of the whole cinematic universe as a whole X-Men HAS to be really good

My limited (and possibly wrong!) understanding is Mister Sinister is more of a personal villain for Cyclops than for the X-Men in general, so maybe this will mean Cyclops will have a better MCU portrayal than in the Fox movies.

I also don't if Marvel is ready to bring the current iteration of Mister Sinister to the screen as the big bad.

He's Marvel's best villain right now (well, right now meaning prior to 6 months or so ago I think, have fallen off of X-Men since then), and it'd be a shame for him to be done dirty, but I feel like they either ruin it by making him too jokey or they ruin it by making him too serious.

My immediate, cynical, and tinfoil hat reaction is that of course Marvel would be leery about having a Jewish villain in the present climate (even though this movie isn't coming for years), especially one whose backstory and identity are as explicitly and identifiably Jewish as "Holocaust survivor".

That said, I do think you could make a good movie around Mister Sinister as long as you find the right actor. You need someone who really leans into the role, hams it up, and chews the scenery every chance they get.

I think it's tough too when the MCU has an established timeline and it's already 2025+ or something. Magneto would be like 90 years old if they go that route so IDK what they could do.

This was definitely something I was thinking about a lot. What exactly do you do with that aspect of the character for the MCU? Do you do the comic book thing and use bs plot elements to explain why he's lived so long? That would just makes things confusing to new audiences and seem pointless (that is to say, a comic book audience expects, if not demands that backstory, and would be more willing to suspend their belief to justify its inclusion). Do you transfer the story to a more modern setting? That would make it less impactful, even if you did have good examples of tragic events from recent history. Do you leave it out? That would seem like erasure. I think the comics and similar adaptations, which still struggle with the sliding timescale, have the ability to handle it better than a movie does, which is why the last round of X-Men movies were prequels...

They could introduce him as an old dude and then do what they did in the comics and turn him back into a baby and then rapidly re-age him to an adult in his prime. ^_^

Just say his mutation makes him age slower.

Didn't they tease Mr. Sinister twice now in the Fox movies?

I've always loved Sinister. He's such a fucking weirdo and I delight seeing what writers do with him because it's always so interesting.

Been a few years since I watched, but Sinister was a big part of the animated series. And with that coming back, next year, maybe that also impacts things. I know that's not technically part of the MCU...though with multiverse shenanigans, who knows!

It is pretty funny that the Fox movies were building up to Sinister for a while, ended before getting to him, and now the MCU might do him instead. What if he shows up in Deadpool 3 first, and does multiverse stuff to jump out of the FoX-Men universe and into the MCU?

I had ideas for how Xavier and Magneto could be done now while taking their ages into account, but it's too dark and out there for the main MCU. It's an episode of What If? at best. To summarise, the two are figureheads of the X-Men and Brotherhood. The leaders of the teams know the truth about their founders, but the other members don't, and the leaders don't know about the other team's founder either. Namely, Magneto has died of old age, and whenever "he" appears in public, it's Mystique disguised as him and using technology to simulate his powers. As for Xavier, Beast has converted Cerebro into a life support system that Xavier is hooked up to at all times, and Beast keeps modifying and upgrading it to keep him alive past his natural lifespan.

Cyclops was pretty bad in the Fox X-Men other than the first movie wasnt he? Almost anything is uphill for his character

It's been a long time since I've seen them, but I mostly just remember him being Jean's jealous boyfriend.

The theory was that Matthew MacFadyen was signed on for Deadpool 3 for the Sinister role some time ago, which would be some great casting.

You could also have had mutants/X-Men somehow "hidden" from the SHIELD / the entire MCU for the last forty years, via trapped in an alternate universe/space crystal /tardis. The first X-Men film could be set in the past and explain why they've been missing all this time.
