Listening through, it's a mixed bag for me so far. I'm a fan of Who Brings Shadow, and my fav new discovery is probs MARIA >_> Maybe things will get better as we go, or maybe we have very differing tastes. Honestly I'm not too bothered about the two of mine that have dropped so far, IIRC I was just searching for final boss themes I remotely liked as I'm not usually a big fan of them.

175. Heroes
Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cZHfOs2XOc
@Isquen (3/3)

Man those opening notes are really cool. Very much digging it until it removes itself from that somewhat melancholic vibe for more standard fare. It get pretty boring to me quickly, and I've lost interest by the time it re-establishes that initial mood. It goes straight into it's loop after anyway, so it never gets to capture the vibe I like so much again.

174. Vergil Battle Theme 3
Devil May Cry 3: Dantes Awakening
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BmUpIuHqmzg
@Snake5555555555 (3/5)

Having never played DMC3, I have spent all these years just assuming Devils Never Cry was the final boss theme. Apparently its the credits theme? Wild. This song made me listen to Devils Never Cry for the first time in probably over a decade and it isnt very good anymore. That is pretty unfortunate. This song takes itself too seriously though. Ive played Devil May Cry 1, I know what these games are about, Capcom. But this song in particular is quite long and hits on the bombast I've already mentioned sounds a bit like a wash to me. It's really hard to stay invested in it for how long it is, though the part at 2:10 is quite fun. Vergil sure does sound evil, based purely on this theme, so I guess he's a bad dude and not a misunderstood dude.

173. Throw Away Your Mask
Persona 5 Royal
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WzDTqGfyFB0
@hombad46 (5/5)

Jeez, despite not particularly enjoying Lins vocals, I still feel like in most cases, she puts on an excellent performance. She sounds out of energy, or at least completely out of her zone here. This song has a bit of an AOR feel, which can be fun in a vacuum, but isn't where I'm usually looking. And Lin doesn't seem to have much of a clue where she's going either. I do dig parts of the song, but not really enough to warrant enjoyment.

172. Those Who Resist Destiny
Chained Echoes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NM9XFPG3Inc
@DireKrow (5/5)

It was quite hard to place this one, and maybe I'm being a bit too harsh. I like some individual pieces present here, but they don't come together well for me, and there isn't really anything standing out for me to latch onto. That plus the general length of the track makes it a hard listen. I think if it limited itself a bit more to some of it's ideas during that first 3 minutes, this would be a much more engaging song.

171. Ogre and True Ogre
Tekken 3
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuV6SQJW2D4
@most_games_r_ok (5/5)

This song sounds pretty interesting. I like the industrial synths it uses. It unfortunately doesn't really go anywhere with those sounds, resulting in something fairly dull. It's definitely got a unique vibe, but that can't really carry it far enough.

191. Syrups Gadgets
Wario Land II
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSAF36qnaMw
-hotdogturtle-- (4/4)

Rewriting this. My joke was that Wario is all about toilet humor, at least later in his lifespan, and the samples sounded kinda like farts. It was a pretty bad joke. Anyway, I like GB music less than I think I tend to think. When a song works on GB, it really works. Truthfully, most songs don't do it for me. This song in particular uses samples I find a bit grating, and is much too short to be interesting.

I'm surprised I lasted this long considering my low compatibility with you and my choice of songs that would not (or have not) done well in VGMC (three of them, at least) . Granted, there are some low-ranked stuff so far that I love, most notablyEXEC_over.METHOD_SUBLIMATION... granted, it's really only the last song there (.~omness chs ciel sos infel) that I consider top tier. Actually, I guess that's the only top tier thing I can find among stuff that's dropped so far (though I do like Daughter of the Dark God quite a bit). Impressive.

170. The God-Slaying Sword
Xenoblade Chronicles
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7NcxXuk3cw
@pyresword (2/2)

A bit of a generic dramatic score to these ears. Feels like I'm dropping Xenoblade tracks like crazy, but the music just isn't interesting to me. I do like a couple songs off the top of my head (You Will Know Our Names, Unfinished Business), but they don't sound anything like this particular track. It's very busy without giving me a good spot to latch onto, even if it sounds perfectly fine on the whole.

169. The Final Combat
Darkest Dungeon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXGVMaBY3UA
@Mihark (4/5)

I should get around to playing Darkest Dungeon. It seems like a game I wouldnt enjoy but that I would pretend to like to sound smart, like Silent Hill 2. Anyway, this type of music is never gonna grip me, and Im at the point where I cant remember which songs Ive said this about, but brass bombast bores the crap out of me. The industrial flourishes are neat, and really save this song from being totally unmemorable for me.

168. Kimi ga Tame Re:boot
Utawarerumono: Prelude of the Fallen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IsWh43seKg
@FL81 (5/5)

Is this really a final boss theme? It definitely sounds like a credits theme. Im gonna assume Ive been had. Much like Kaz, Ive been played like a damn fiddle. Anywho, I thought this sounded like some solid Bemani for a little bit, but it drones into a pretty dull ballad and never gets out of that slump. It sounds pretty enough, and the vocalist is pretty good here, but I just find it too boring to enjoy.

167. Gados Theme
Bloody Roar 2
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1HcVPE_QqM
@most_games_r_ok (4/5)

Fairly tame and forgettable music. The moment at 26 seconds where the riff starts to shred and the drums heat up is such a troll because its back to being fairly dull eight seconds later and then never tries to do something cool again, until the next time it happens. Needs to build on that part as opposed to what it goes for the rest of the time.

166. The Absolute
Zero Divide 2: The Secret Wish
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQcWUqCtgqE
@Haste_2 (5/5)

The sharpness of these synths really bugs me. Feels uncomfortable to listen to, and it keeps me from being able to focus on the other pieces which are definitely a bit better. That guy on the guitar is having a good time, so Im happy for him, but I wish it sounded a bit better.

I believe Kimi ga Tame really is the final boss theme for the first Utawarerumono, and if you thought it was monotonous to listen to, it's worse in context. One of the dullest final boss fights I've experienced. I still like the series though.

165. Raven Beak (First Phase)
Metroid Dread
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REy70Wr3a1Y
@Haste_2 (4/5)

As much as I love Metroid Dread, the music on display was a big fat nothing. I think Kenji Yamamoto is a precious little man who creates some of the best atmospheric pieces in gaming, and its clear when he isnt directly composing a Metroid game (I dont think hes done anything beyond supervision and directing since MP3, but I could be wrong). This song lacks any real punch and I would not guess this came from a Metroid game if I werent told so. Perhaps this is bias getting in the way of my feelings, since the song is solid altogether. Its just a little sad when compared to some of the greats from the franchise.

164. Challenge to the Vertex (Kings Gate)
Pocket Card Jockey
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQtzIAmlkj0
@RySenkari (4/5)

A bit messy and a little too focused on bombast rather than exploring some of its cooler segments. Transitions feel extremely unnatural to me, and the song lacks a coherent mood or vibe. Its tough listening to this because I think if it were more focused, itd be pretty strong. The lack of direction is challenging to overlook, and the result is something Im not particularly fond of.

163. The Merciless Savior
The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky SC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJO4oJ0Uce4
@dowolf (3/5)

Gonna get killed for this one. I've tried to enjoy this one many times before, since it is so hyped up, but it just loses me immediately. It's a well-made song for sure, and I really like those synths. I just don't feel like I'm gelling with the strings at any point. Like, this is gonna sound lame as hell, but replace those with an electric guitar and I probably enjoy this way more. I dunno how to describe it exactly. This would have probably finished in the middle of tier 3 with just that first bit, but then the part that kicks in around 2:43 happens. It doesn't sound bad, it's just ever so dull, and it sucks all the energy away from the song. Of course, the third section kicks things back up, but my vibe is already lost at that point.

162. Justice Ray Pt 2
Thunder Force V
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc3etQa9xLg
@Simoun (5/5)

Not a fan of how the synths sound, and definitely not a fan of the awkward transition to an organ for some reason. But yeah, the artificiality of those synths with the backdrop of that guitar kinda grates on me. Melody-wise its fine. Doubt it would do much for me regardless of how you pieced it together, but its too jarring as-is.

161. The Last Lord
Deaths Door
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf1jB0hwVuQ
@andylt (3/5)

Eh, feels pretty low-energy despite the instrumentation and tone seeming to be trying to evoke a sense of power and tension. Its fine overall but it plods along too passively to stand out. I feel like this would work better with more downtuned guitars. It's got a great melody, I just think it's being used inappropriately. A sludgier feel would've made this sound phenomenal (Though I'm biased on that sound). As-is, it's a bit more awkward.

160. Le Ali del Principio
Baten Kaitos Origins
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-O0XE8w5glY
@FLOUR (5/5)

What the fuck is this, Sakuraba? Was kinda excited for this one since (list spoilers) I enjoyed the other Baten Kaitos nomination so much, but this is an unfortunate departure from what I typically associate with the guy and I do not like it. Its not bad, I should say. In fact, its quite pretty. Its just not very interesting, which is not something I can usually say about Sakuraba battle themes, good or bad. I think I may be a bit biased on its final placement, but I dont think it wouldve changed much regardless of expectations.

159. Hyper Final Ultra a.A.
Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=on_ET4SUbx4
@Raka_Putra (5/5)

The hard synths used for DR songs have never quite been able to work for me. This is no different. The driving melody isnt particularly noteworthy, so it all starts to turn to mush despite the intensity it successfully evokes. It's certainly a memorable listen, just a memory I'm not all fond of.

158. A Place in the Sun
Tales of the Abyss
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eH98ksmVkIU
@NBIceman (5/5)

This sounds more like area music to the final dungeon than it does a final boss theme. Like, this song is designed specifically to build to something greater, without doing anything particularly special itself. Like I expect it to jump into another movement after 1:10, but that's just the end of the loop. I dont remember much about Tales of the Abyss, but I think I know why this song is part of that lost memory.

157. What Im Made Of
Sonic Heroes
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ScvxT0RItYE
@GavsEvans123 (5/5)

Crush 40 love can only go so far, and I draw my line at anything outside of Sonic Adventure 2. They are so lame and I get thats the whole reason everyone cums for them but the singer just sounds tired here. Its still fine, but definitely low on the list of corny songs Im willing to accept.

156. Tabuu
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMt3xF8IqlA
@Mihark (3/5)

Its okay. Like A Place in the Sun, this feels more as if its building to something bigger than being its own spectacle. Problem is, this is definitely meant to be the be all, end all of the Subspace Emissary. As corny as the cutscenes were and as poorly designed as the level layouts were, I do wish Ultimate had tried something similar to the Subspace Emissary. It was ambitious, but not very good. But Ultimate is way better than Brawl so it definitely would have been worth another effort. Anyway, I like the overall melody here, but those synths are way too squeaky. I think those higher pitches generally work far more when they're coming out of lower-powered hardware, like an NES or GB.

155. Black Ark Unveiled
Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIdsFU71ZbY
@NFUN (5/5)

Well this is wildly different from anything Ive heard out of a Falcom game. Different isnt necessarily a good thing though, and in this case Im not huge on it. Lacks any sort of hook while chugging along and the result is something that isnt any fun or impactful.

154. The Worms Tail
Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqmlXC4aodw
@Isquen (2/3)

Just some more bombast without anything interesting to set it apart. People love this games music but damn, I feel like Im being a bit harsh on it overall. There were over 30 of these fuckers on Final Bar Line and I dont remember most of them. This may have been included, I genuinely have no idea. LIke, it sounds fine, I'm sure it works quite well too, but it's just not sticking.

153. The Almighty Tailor
Fashion Police Squad
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRtk0Xk2NQA&t=3909s
@Simoun (4/5)

It sounded neat, albeit generic, at first. Not particularly exciting but I was vibing. Then those vocals come in and wow they sound very silly here. Completely took me out of the song, what the hell are they doing? As the song progresses into more interesting ideas, they serve as an unfortunate weight which I cant separate. Shame, really, lose them, and this song wouldve slotted quite a bit higher.

152. Finish ~ The Morganian Sanctuary : O. Vortigern
Fate/Grand Order
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tewb6wtR7Nc
@trdl23 (4/4)

The piano is nice but the song just kinda makes me wanna take a nap. Its not exciting or engaging in much of any way. I guess its nice for background music, but I doubt it adds much to whatever encounter its a part of. Another song with some genuinely interesting ideas that fails to deliver on those in interesting ways.

151. Kill God
Silent Hill 3
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwvDiTAAgoY
@Snake5555555555 (2/5)

Silent Hill music is generally some of the best out there, but it can really be split into two categories: 1. Cool trip-hop 2. Creepy atmospheric. This is in category 2, which doesnt really hold up in easy listening, or hyper critical analysis which is definitely what Im currently doing. I never did play Silent Hill 3, but I did watch a Lets Play and enjoyed that pretty well, but the main draw of Silent Hill is how all the pieces of it come together to create such a distinct feel of stress and melancholy. At least thats how it was in the first two, as much of a drag as they are to actively play. Basically, what I mean is its hard to enjoy the more atmospheric pieces of music of the Silent Hill games on their own because theres such a need for the other pieces of the work to be present with it.

150. The Usurper
The Kings Bird
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHwZqf5odIY
NBIceman (4/5)

Has some neat transitions and the flute is pretty cool. However, it runs into the same issue as a few of these songs have in that its far too bombastic for me, and that kinda crowds out a lot of the cooler concepts the song introduces. Its fine, but not all that great.

And with that, tier 2 is complete! Now we're moving into songs I feel a bit more positive about, even if they mostly don't engage me a whole lot.

Gonna go ahead and drop the first set of tier 3s

149. Battle! (Champion)
Pokemon Sword & Shield
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bUG_NS0xqSY
@Raka_Putra (4/5)

Why the hell is there crowd noise and why is it so loud? Can barely hear the actual song when they have it going, and then it dips in and out of use. Fucking terrible mixing. The song itself is actually quite good, but its effectively ruined by that crowd noise, oof.

148. Decisive Battle
Final Fantasy X
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KILRvG2gqqo
@pjbasis (3/5)

Final Fantasy X hosts some of my favorite pieces of video game music, though this is unfortunately not one of them. I like the driving piano, but it never gets anywhere, so it just keeps driving until it eventually runs out of gas, which I think is where the upload ends. Its a pretty solid song that just doesn't get the ball rolling, unfortunately.

147. Final Destination
Super Smash Bros.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbaTu_SIj38
@Xeybozn (2/2)

I dont know that Smash Bros. has ever produced a unique piece I enjoy more than some passing admission to it being fine. Like, the draw to the music in these games has always been the remixes, even though most of them arent very good. This first Final Destination, again, is fine. Nothing actively great about it, but it does enough to get the job done. The drums in particular here sound pretty cool, and I think they bring a lot of life to this incredibly brief piece.

146. Hush
Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M906kiFzHuY
@MaxGalactica (4/5)

Im usually pretty into Ace Combat music, but this is a bit of a letdown. Almost feels like it refuses to go anywhere special as were treated to pretty standard orchestral bellowing. It's Ace Combat, so the music is still a bit better than your average song, but it lacks most of the charm I know the series for, whatever that means. I like this fine though, just not gonna be my go-to for this series.

Sword and Shield are based on British football, thus the deafening cheers. The theme, itself, is the well documented Hall of Fame theme (arguably the worst, least inspired Champion battle theme in the series).

145. The Face of Madness
Mages of Mystralia
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uScCHa7bli0
@Mihark (2/5)

I really like some parts of this song, and I especially like where my brain is expecting it to go half the time. But it goes where I expect none of the times and becomes pretty boring. I really like the parts where the brass swells with the heaviness of the piano, but then it'll transition into less interesting stuff.

144. Black Banquet
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HqLO2lGpJcg
@MegaWentEvil (2/2)

As much as I love SotN, I think its soundtrack is pretty weak. Like, among the weakest links in a franchise full of bops. That alone wouldnt be a big deal, but people seem to love this soundtrack, and I dont get it. I like the drumming in this a lot, at every part, but it can't carry something otherwise pretty lackluster. It's definitely SCARY though, so maybe that matters more.

143. No Tomorrow
Metal: Hellsinger
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CVyPO_tR540
@MacArrowny (4/5)

I love SOAD, specifically their album Toxicity, but that was ages ago. Serj is pretty clearly not at the top of his game at this point, but this is likely more of a marketing decision than anything. He just sounds bad in some parts. Beyond that, its a pretty good song, and its not like he ruins it or anything. Its just not that interesting.

142. The Wyrms Jewelbox
Maiden & Spell
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FldWa7-vgmE
@Player_0 (5/5)

One of those weird songs where, yeah, it sounds nice and has good production, but there isnt really a key melody I feel able to latch to. It shifts around a bit too much with what its doing and slowly loses the initial appeal because its kinda long and never lets me settle into it. The end result is, unfortunately, a mediocre song that couldve been better with some smarter compositional choices.

141. The Battle at the Summit!
Pokemon Sun & Moon
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q4H1icv7TFM
@hbthebattle (5/5)

In a way, this feels redundant of many other Pokemon themes. Maybe thats the intent? Either way its far too bombastic for my liking, but it's also pretty engaging the entire time. It does the bonus damage of making me feel nostalgic, so I guess it's moving a bit higher than it's initial placement.

140. Final Boss
Bust-A-Move 99
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1V4EcFg0ycs
@most_games_r_ok (3/5)

Should be noted, the original upload provided was a dead link by the time I got to listening, and trying to find a replacement was not easy. Im fairly sure this is the correct song (but not at all sure if its the correct version), but if Im incorrect, consider this list officially incomplete. Anyway this is pretty alright. I like how anxious it sounds, like youre just one mistake away from total collapse. Never played a Bust-A-Move game, but it looks kinda like reverse Panel de Pon, where this song would fit nicely into. I dont have any strong feelings, but it does what it needs to, and does it well.

139. Arrival Existence
The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVSpwMpZ-Aw
@bebr117 (4/5)

The structure and pacing of this song are very uncomfortable. Individually I think each part is fine, but hearing it all slapped together feels odd. I would hope the shifting around is context appropriate but I have not played these games so feel free to tell me if that is true or if this composer is just a silly boy.

138. Unrivaled Chaos
Legend of Legaia
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PTSLjSolXA
@MegaWentEvil (1/2)

I like how hard the percussion goes, and I guess whoever mixed this did as well, since you can barely hear anything else. What I can make out isnt very interesting, so I think I get why its so loud. Unfortunately, fun percussion cannot carry a song. The other bits have to be fun too, and they kind of are? Just not super fun.

137. Final Boss
Guacamelee!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zeqihyi6sx4
@azuarc (4/5)

Naming your song for the final boss of a video game, Final Boss is probably the lamest and most uninspired thing you can possibly do as a composer, outside of actually making this song. Im sorry, that is mean and incorrect. This song is far more interesting than a number of songs Ive heard in this very topic! Its even one Id describe as okay! Its biggest issue is how lacking it is in developing itself as a single piece of music. A lot of ideas and concepts are getting crammed into a pretty short runtime, leaving no room for any of it to flourish naturally. Leads me to not really care about what its offering, and I wish I did.

136. GENESIS
Blue Reflection: Second Light
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_m1TcKPXSLo
@MaxGalactica (3/5)

Feel like we're now getting into territory where I can comfortably say I'm enjoying the songs, it's all a matter of how much something's able to stick with me now, and this one doesn't do enough sticking for me. It all sounds pretty solid, but it devolves into synthy mush after a little bit.

Funny enough, I nominated this before the fight came out in the global servers, so I didn't know the context - I just loved the mix of the piano and strings and was curious what kind of fight it would come to.

Now, I have completed the story, and that analysis is actually kinda spot on? The entire ending is all about stopping the world itself from just becoming a "Midsummer Night's Dream." The boss's entire gimmick revolves around spamming abilities to effectively put your units into eternal Sleep. The only real difference is, given the context, it adds SO much to the encounter.

I've heard the song referred to elsewhere as "Calaca," which is the name of the boss, and means demon in Spanish. (This is almost certainly the name I gave you.) It's also a reprisal of an earlier theme, so even if it *is* called Final Boss here, that makes it slightly more forgivable.

135. Skull Heart Arrhythmia
Skullgirls
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9HjQ8dQEVA
@hbthebattle (4/5)

Were the vocals truly necessary here? They arent very good. The song itself is solid, and would probably still be solid without the vocals. It's got a lot of cool ideas, and the piano is usually doing good work. Nothing too spectacular, unfortunately.

134. Spectres Theme
Ape Escape
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uw_p2ZEf80
@most_games_r_ok (2/5)

I actually think Ape Escape has a great soundtrack overall, but this aint doing it for me. Missing the jungle influence which the soundtrack excels at, or at least its not as heavy in this track. Theres a lot of meandering around within the track, never going anywhere interesting, but also failing on the atmospheric front as well. Sounds more like level music where youre explore some factory as opposed to final boss music.

133. OverDrive
Ether Vapor
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HpSS-xcDWgo
@Fluttershy_Pony (4/5)

At a bit of a loss. Its okay, inoffensive RPG music, but it doesnt try anything fun or unique, so Im limited on praise. The bassline rips in the good way, which is very neat to say about an otherwise generic tune.

132. Go Go Go!
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5tLyzi_U3s
@FLOUR (4/5)

This is solid. I don't have much to say about it, since it feels quite standard, but it's got a nice melody, and it grows at a pretty good pace. I think the PS1 sound kinda blows though, and this isn't an exception to that. It'd probably sound better with more modern production, or even coming out of a SNES or something. Not sure if this is any different from the music in the SCD version, though I'm not eager to check myself tbh.

131. Jaldabaoth
Persona 5
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_wQZdfnTAo
@Raka_Putra (3/5)

My hot take is that Persona 5 had a weak soundtrack. Like, most of it is fine, but it was being put on a pretty high pedestal upon it's release, and I think it's weaker than 4, and significantly weaker than 3. This song sounds a bit more like something out of the earlier games, with those horns really being the only thing that feels Persona 5-ish. Still, this franchise rarely does it for me in terms of music. I think the guitar sounds pretty good here, but it doesn't engage me all that much.

130. Final Battle
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
https://youtu.be/etwXNJ1zBvE
@DragonGargoyle (5/5)

I love the Super Paper Mario soundtrack but I really haven't engaged the other soundtracks. I know the franchise has a tendency to dip into these heavier tracks, so I wouldn't say this is a surprise, but it is a little shocking regardless. Either way, it sounds neat and its probably awesome in-game, but it ain't for me.

129. Battle! Champion
Pokemon Diamond & Pearl
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXefFHRgyE0
@Natwaf_akidna (4/5)

As casual of a franchise as Pokemon is, I feel the music is an acquired taste, one which I didn't really acquire. I actually greatly prefer the BDSP versions of basically every song on this game and Im pretty sure certain groups would find that to be a detestable view. Regardless, this version of this song is alright. I think it has far more of a sense of direction than some of the other Pokemon songs to drop, and it sounds cool at times, just isn't my cup of tea.

128. Love Deterrence
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOaSh1-d9gc
@hombad46 (4/5)

Now I played Peace Walker, but I dont remember anything about it, and this song is part of that. Why is this an MGS song? I dont think the franchise has particularly strong music, but its at least fitting. This doesnt strike me as something the grizzled soldier BIg Boss would be fighting supernatural mechs to. Maybe Raiden, but not Big Boss. Song itself is fine. It has the heavy bombast I dislike about a lot of Japanese pop songs used in battle anime and video games, but if I werent so burned out on that, Im sure this would sound pretty good. As is, nothing separates it from something from Sword Art Online or anything ufotable shits out.

127. A Pure and Innocent Fleeting Flower ~ Absolute Lily
Touhou Tri Focuser ~ Outside the Traditional World
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W1QZ4KzBloo
@FL81 (4/5)

While listening, it felt as if there was something missing that other Touhou songs have. Upon reading the description, I found this is a fan game, which makes sense. I cant really pinpoint anything specific, it just feels off. Something in the way its mixed I guess? I dunno enough about music. Im a filthy ZUN apologist and this just doesnt have the same feel his work usually does, which Im sure some enjoy. I like some of the ideas on display, but I dont think anything is executed all too well. It sounds fine overall, but I guess Ive just listened to too much Touhou music that imitators just feel weak.

126. Kiss and Throw Down
Super Lesbian Horse RPG
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZsxTUXu_7hc
@Fluttershy_Pony (3/5)

Perhaps its because Im not a lesbian or a horse, but I find this a bit mediocre. Sounds kind of like its trying to emulate the sound of old computer games while being a bit too complex to really work with that sound. I do like how this sounds, mind you, I just don't get much from the melody. Its alright, just not particularly memorable.

Honestly, I hadn't heard of it either and I don't entirely recall how I found this track. Since I'm rarely into battle themes because they're too "epic battle"-y & final boss themes tend to be even more of what I dislike about the category, I wound up having to trawl Google and YouTube for anything I found interesting.

"Demon Lord" had a high-pitched, chaotic energy that made it really stand out. I wanted something from the Genesis and I was curiously drawn to how odd it felt. I'm still not sure how much I like it, but I have gone back to it frequently since noms ended to try to properly grok what it's doing, which is *probably* a good sign?

"OverDrive" was my last pick and I really don't know how I got to it, but it goes for a more subdued beauty than expected for a final boss song (especially from a shmup) which I felt might help it be distinguished from the pack. It lasted longer than I expected after some other song/s were cut for not being exciting enough, so I'm actually rather pleased it got as far as it did.

I really can't think of anything to say about the SLHRPG song, though it has the distinction of being the only nom of mine that I'd heard before nominations & I like it well enough.
