Vivek did a lot of Trump-like things with his behavior, he drew the most attention from yesterday's opponents as they each spoke, he got the most support in a focus group (CNN's?) right after the debate for who won, he's getting the most attention from pundits since the debate, he probably had the lowest name recognition going into the debate, and Donald's getting his mugshot taken today.

Donald's still going to be very far ahead of everybody this month, but Vivek is about to jump in the polls to my prediction of second place nationally after this...and if Donald goes to jail or dies from old age or something like that, then Vivek is in *the space* to best absorb Donald's voters.

In that scenario, if Vivek managed to win the primary, a thirty-nine year old would be against someone who is almost eighty-two years old. That worked well for Obama when he was forty-seven years old against a seventy-two year old John McCain, and this would be eighteen more years of difference.

Vivek had a very-not-good-kind-of-insane debate overall in my book, but he's not seeking my vote. He's about to rise, and I think he has a path forward to cause a lot of hell this election.

On being a vegetarian: I can see Vivek blowing it off in a debate for self-promotion like "You think eating meat is helping Chris Christie? No. Look at my polling -- I don't need to eat meat when I eat expired soy boys like you alive on television."

And then the merch rolls out:

Vivek Ramaswamy
Eat You Alive
2024

Being a vegetarian would hurt with his voters, yeah...but insults, shows of strength, and fun merchandise would cover a lot of that up via memes and sound bites.

My thought process there is a plurality works in a large field and Vivek is about to grow the most in name recognition. The one (very short) period Donald wasn't leading the RNC in the 2016 campaign was when he was behind to Ben Carson.

If Donald is alive and eligible while voters still support Donald, there is no chance for Vivek. In absence of Donald though, racists will likely support someone supporting their kind of racism in the same way racists did for Hershel Walker and the same way Christians did for Donald for their kind of Christianity. It just depends if Vivek convinces Republicans he is one of theirs or not, and I suspect he is doing that albeit being a divisive fool along the way too (like saying climate change is a hoax).

I won't keep on -- just don't want people to sleep on his chances either. He's about to become a bigger figure.

Im honestly kinda curious for people who arent voting Trump, but are voting Republican what they get out of watching a debate like this. Theyre basically all the same guy running. Climate change isnt real. Pro Russia. Will enrich themselves & the wealthy at the expense of everyone else. Will try to remove as many rights from non-whites and LGBTQ as they can. Trump did nothing wrong.

Like what exactly makes any of them stand out from one another to R voters?

No, but his name is Vivek, which will be a dealbreaker. It 'sounds foreign' which will immediately turn off a lot of the Republican party. If his name were Victor Singh, they could probably get past it.

Fair, though some of that point gets dulled if Vivek was to be nominated against an eighty-two year old with a VP named Kamala. Obama also dulled this kind of point before by getting Biden as his VP -- Vivek has that move available as well if he ever gets that far.

You guys are talking about senators here. You're talking about something totally different. People just see senators as a tool to pass their agenda in congress, and it's fine for someone like that to be a person of color. But a president? No. They see the presidency as a sort of god-king of America. It's completely different.

Of course, not every conservative thinks like this - for a decent portion of them these kind of racial grievances don't really matter anymore. But it matters to enough of them for there to be too much resistance for it to work. Again, for a senator? Doesn't matter. They can be one of the 'slave classes', as they see it. But for a president? For too many of them that has to be someone white who can rule over the country rightfully.

Yeah, I saw a reporter yesterday mention that Fulton County lets you self-report height and weight but that is a bold claim by him.

Re: his weight as president. He claimed 239 which was coincidentally the exact number that kept his BMI below what would be considered obese.

Today was the scheduled hearing before Judge Chutkan in the 1/6 trial.

tl;dr: Chutkan has set the trial date for March 4, 2024
https://twitter.com/kylegriffin1/status/1696183365311832385

The Special Counsel's office was asking for a trial date in January 2024 while Trump's legal team was asking for the completely non-serious trial date of April 2026. She also swatted down the ridiculous notion that Trump's personal and professional schedule had to be accomodated - with Chutkin say, "Setting a trial date does not depend and should not depend on a defendant's personal and professional obligations. Mr. Trump, like any defendant will have to make the trial date work, regardless of his schedule." She also expressed serious skepticism that the case was "complex" by noting it's one defendant and four charges and that while she's aware the defendant being a former President makes it historic that's not the same thing as legally complex and questioned Trump's side over what they felt made it complex since they kept asserting that as a reason why the trial had to be in 2026. Trump's lawyer allegedly kept trying to talk over the judge too which sure is a bold legal strategy.

Fun Fact: March 5 is Super Tuesday lol

All the primary goers and conservative news will be talking about is how unfair it is to Trump. How he is a victim of injustice. Heck you probably have multiple R candidates saying it the day before the primary.

In a de-facto two party FPTP system (in other words in a FPTP system), most votes are anti-votes.

Anyway yeah there is definitely a downside to doomposting. Not only is it bad for your mental health it can encourage apathy and in terms of elections the evidence is that you are more likely to vote if you think you can win. Obviously indicating that its hopeless doesnt help that. With that said misplaced confidence is no good either.
