It looks cool, it has a cool typing, it gets lots of cross-gen support (as opposed to like Venomoth), and I want to say that it's the most common favorite bug pokemon? Alder isn't the best champion, but he sure beats Geeta. I feel like Volcarona is the only time GameFreak put real effort into advertising a bug pokemon, and it shows. It has nothing to do with real evolution at all, not even a little bit, but it does have to do with bug transformations. It's just such a cool idea, combining the idea of like caterpillar-to-butterfly transformations and like anime power-up transformations. I can imagine that the original intent was to make kids be surprised at how their animals turn into new versions and be excited to learn what they'll be, too. Just a 10/10 idea in all regards.
