William Frederick Knight, voice of GITS's Aramaki's dub version, passed away at 88. RIP. Will always remember "HEY, DUMBASS AT THE WINDOW!" Those Aramaki focused episodes were so good.

I have officially finished my first manga!

I picked A School Frozen in Time because it was only four volumes total and I liked the premise. Eight kids get trapped in a high school and need to figure out which one of them was the one who committed suicide. The first volume was good, so I bought the rest. Sadly, the story kind of fell apart and became really melodramatic at times. Ah well.

Still, it worked as a test. I enjoyed reading the manga. Buying physical copies was expensive, especially since reading through them didn't take very long, so I'll probably use certain websites in the future. I also still prefer anime, but so many great shows end without a proper conclusion so it'll be good to start reading those ones at least.

If you prefer reading physical you can check your local library. They usually carry entire completed series and even unfinished one. If you're reading online on those sites make sure to have adblocker. You can also subscribe to Viz or Crunchy or other anime subs and usually they have manga available to read as part of the package. Ask WhiteLens or LTM for help with subscription services.

You can also check your local library, some have really good manga collections.

The only one I can recommend is the Viz Shonen Jump since it's only $2 a month (maybe a little more for CAD) to access a lot of their Shonen Jump stuff, but you're limited to only 100 chapters a day, which should be enough unless you're a hyper binge reader.

Your Crunchyroll subscription should also give you access to their manga, but I don't think their library is all that large, and some of their stuff look to have a limited release window. So it's more of an extra perk to the subscription.

Rightstuf lists manga a bit cheaper than retail price, and they cycle through sales from the major and minor publishers a couple times a year. So you could probably get manga about 20-25% cheaper than retail if you get it during a sale. Also they've got their holiday sale going on now, although it's mostly bundles for popular/trending titles (plus trying to get rid of whatever they have left in their warehouse).

Kodansha and Dark Horse have a couple of digital manga bundles a year on Humble Bundle and you can get a lot for like 25 or 30 dollars. Though they might not be complete sets (like many of the Kodansha bundles the first 3-5 volumes of whatever series is currently running).

as someone mentioned crunchyroll, if you've got a subscription already I would suggest Soredemo Machi wa Mawatteiru/And Yet the Town Moves and Bokura wa Minnou Kawaisou/Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior. They've also got all of Arakawa Under the Bridge (since it was on your list).

more generally speaking, I would suggest Land of the Lustrous, since it was on your list and because the later parts are really important since they turn pretty much everything on its head and re-contextualize the plot/characterization/themes. Since you've watched the animu you could probably just go ahead and skip to volume 5.

buying manga runs into the problem that a lot of older stuff ends up falling out of print and becoming impossible to find legally (particularly middle volumes, since sales taper off as the series go on and less volumes get printed but the last few volumes might still be recent enough to be findable online)

I will anti recommend Land of the Lustrous until it finishes because the manga comes out extremely slowly :p

And Yet The Town Moves is great though.

Thanks for the manga info, everyone. So far I've found quite a few things to read on a certain website someone from here had told me about awhile ago. It seems safe (I've read a few chapters of Yotsuba&! there so far, at least). It doesn't have everything, but there's more than enough to get me started! If I start becoming a big manga fiend, maybe then I'll start looking into more physical stuff.

Speaking of Yotsuba&!, I'm sad the author is dead-set against it ever getting an anime because I think it would be fun as an anime.

I haven't read all his work yet - I haven't read any of the Tomie or Spiral stuff for example, criminal I know, but I knocked out a majority of his repetoire during a binge a few years back and never went back to finish everything off - but Hanging Balloons is a personal fav, probably #2 among the short story repetoire next to Enigma of Amigara Fault. Now if we could get that, or even Hellstar Remina in the series, man... can't get my hopes up (see: the much-maligned Junji Ito Collection series)

I'm onto something Engage Kiss. It has some weird red flags (Protagonist-chan of the day, and harem show that isn't a harem show writing 101), but the characters seem likeable enough despite how stupid it all is. The action scenes were pretty crazy and the auction/online components of the city are pretty neat. I'm not bowled over yet like I instantly was with Otherside and IWGP, but it has some potential.

Man I can't BELEIVE how much Tokyo Revengers is flubbing it's ending.

Meanwhile Gash Bell continuing to show its one of the best shounen on the market even now.

Went back and re-read all the chair-sama scenes to make sure I wasn't misremembering.

It'll definitely be in cour 3 of 4 and it's just as awesome still as I thought it was

Completed Actors: Songs Connection. I wouldn't say it is good, and it looks pretty bad, but the "twist" was kind of interesting, and I liked a few of the characters.

Now it's time to catch up on some season 1s in anticipation of sequels airing next season.

Shes a growing girl like Nami. Her starting point happened to be where nami is now.

Watched Romantic Killer. Pretty disappointing, personally. I barely laughed, despite it be mostly comedy. For similar series, I found Nozaki and My Next Life as a Villainess a lot funnier. Riri was incredibly annoying every time she appeared, and the premise was too much like a hentai for my tastes (make a 16 year old girl get together with a guy to help fix Japan's declining birthrate). The strongest element was the excellent animation, and the fairly likable protagonist. The rest of the characters were fine, but didn't stand out much from their archetypes. I felt like there were too many of them for the romantic aspects to really work. Oddly enough, there's a serious arc later on that works a lot better, maybe because the show doesn't have to worry about not being funny when it's not telling any jokes...

Also, I was very annoyed that the MC of the show only had female friends at the start, despite the premise of the show being that she only ever hung out with boys...

I mean I think she only really had one friend at all at the very start (the other girls were really that girl's friends). Otherwise she just spent all her time gaming alone and playing with her cat. Seemed like she left all her guy friends behind in her previous school.

I did enjoy Romantic Killer as did my wife. The premise is definitely a bit creepy but they never actually push it in the hentai/physical direction at all so it didn't bother me.

Riri is very annoying though.

Humble Bundle's got an encore of their Lone Wolf and Cub manga bundle.

Laid-Back Camp movie is out on Crunchy. I watched it. It was very laid-back and nice.
