Decent show/season overall. However, I suspect this is one that suffers a lot in specifically the anime adaptation, based on the way the anime has played out and some comments I've read about the novels (which I have not read). I think they're trying to tell a story about a character who thinks actually does have attachments to the people around him despite believing himself to be an emotionless husk. But the writers don't have either the screentime (most likely) or the writing ability to portray that with the required nuance while also keeping the mindgames of the show intact, and so Ayanokoji just actually comes across as a completely disinterested character which is just kind of boring. It does feel like there's something to the character but it's just never really in focus like it should be, and I think if we got more insight into his inner thoughts the show would be a lot better.

Seeing Ayanokoji wreck Ryuuen over the entire course of the season was pretty great though. Also Arisu is a character I've always liked so I'm really excited to see her being featured in season 3, based on the post-credits scene. Kei has also proved to be a pretty good character.

Classroom of the Elite S2 - Man the first 2/3 of this season sucked. Basically checked it out as a refresher after not reading the books for a while, but I dunno if it was even that good for that, since the anime only focuses on the main events, skipping a bunch of the characterization (skipping the book that develops Ayanokouji and Kei's relationship was quite unfortunate). It's interesting how different the MC is in the show - the books definitely portray him as a guy who acts normal, but schemes inside, while his dead to the worldness is a lot more focused on in the anime. The animation was also terrible for a large part of this season. The final arc was relatively well executed at least, changing things but still giving us more stylish animation and direction.

Yakuza Babysitter - I'm generally a sucker for these adoptive father/daughter shows, but this one wasn't quite there for me. Yaeka was super cute and had some cute moments, but the yakuza aspects of the show weren't particularly interesting. They generally felt too sanitized, and when they did get more brutal, they didn't fit very well with the show. The pacing also felt oddly slow, despite it adapting like 4 or 5 chapters per episode. Like, people talked more slowly than they should. Ah well, it wasn't bad.

Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Not particularly good, but much better than I expected it to be? Manzai is inherently unfunny, so a show based on it sounded like a bad idea, but this had a few things that helped make it better. First, the animation is fantastic. No clue why this show looks so good, but the animation gives the cast a lot more character, and there's some great animated gags. Second, the show isn't actually focused on manzai, with the manzai performances taking up maybe 10% of the show, probably less. It's mostly just the girls getting up to ridiculous antics, and the show can be delightfully silly (one of the main characters is an actual alien, there's a time loop episode, an episode about becoming a crypto millionaire and losing it all, etc.). The actual thing that holds it back is that the cast's too big - there are 15 main characters, which is too many imo. The show does a good job balancing screentime for all of them, but I think it should've cute out at least three to make the rest a bit more memorable.

Even if it were, I'm enjoying Mob Psycho 100 too much to make the answer anything other than that. Just finished episode 8 of season 2, and except for the ending, it was my favorite episode of the series.

I still need to catch up on most airing shows, but I finished Teppen. I thought it was a solid comedy, but I always enjoy random humor and it relied on that a lot. I'm guessing most people wouldn't like it as much as me.

Dropped Teppen after the episode focused on the alien girl. I think the show averaged out to okay. There were groups I liked (Bullet Kunoichi and Celebri Tea) and groups I didn't (the alien team and the Ibaraki team), but after an episode focused on the gag I hated most, I couldn't be bothered to continue.

Made in Abyss: Golden City of the Scorching Sun beated. Wow, this was one of the greatest anime seasons I've ever seen. I loved S1 and thought the movie was a step down, but this was even better than S1. They introduce a whole bunch of new characters, but the new cast is fantastic and meshes perfectly with the old ones and the Abyss itself. Animation, direction, art, and music are all supreme: this series is ridiculously well-made. I cried a lot in the last few episodes. Real excellent emotional impact. Even on, the show had me yelling "no!" at the screen when bad stuff happened. ;_; Shame it's pretty much caught up with the manga, so it'll be a long time before we get more, but this was still a fantastic experience.

Easily the best anime of the year and I'll be shocked if it's surpassed.

I'd been waiting to start that until all the episodes were out but good to hear they didn't drop the ball. I was also a bit unimpressed by the movie in comparison to S1.

I also waited for all the episodes to be out, and I feel like that was the right choice, heh.

This is one of those shows where reading the manga makes me not want to watch it.

Not for quality reasons, I KNOW this part is great and I KNOW the anime is fantastic.

But I just....don't....need to watch that right now.

It took me months to watch the last episode of S1.

I also held off on Abyss S2 because I knew it will make me feel terrible and I didn't want to spread that feeling across several weeks. Really looking forward to watching it at some point soon, though.

I thought S1 and the movie were equally good.

I finished Parallel World Pharmacy. I thought it was alright. The main character is just too hilariously overpowered to really be compelling. Still, he's going up against diseases and those are tough to fight even with his abilities, so I guess it balances out. I also find battling diseases to be compelling, so I enjoyed it well enough.

Although if it's for a franchise I'm already familiar with...I can see it.

So I was randomly checking if any anime characters I liked had figures that weren't too expensive. I wound up finding one that's super duper expensive from The Aquatope on White Sand.

Man people are fucking done with that new Makoto Shinkai trailer, lol. I'm not a big fan of his but I figured that would always just be a me thing.

The Devil Is a Part-Timer S2 - Wow that was certainly a massive step down from S1. The animation and direction are awful, with no sense of comic timing. The story and serious parts fail too, with the characters losing most of their charm. There were a couple okay episodes in there, but this was mostly garbage.

Call of the Night - Great show! I love the style of the thing (can definitely tell it was made by people who worked on Monogatari), and the gradually expanding cast was quite compelling as well. Fun conversations between everyone all the time. Awesome ending too. Definitely interested in reading the manga at some point if it doesn't get more anime.

Parallel World Pharmacy - Last arc was probably the weakest, sadly, but it was okay. Farma's generally pretty excellent, and I always enjoyed the pharmacist stuff. The magic parts were rather less interesting. I don't think the supporting cast was very good either.
