And I don't mean idle for 10,000 hours. Like a real 10,000 hours played.
I think that will be my mission going forward. That is a lot of time.
So far I have never reached 5,000 hours played. My top attempts are:

Runescape 3: 4755 hours, then account got hacked and lost motivation (This seems to happen to everyone).
Star Trek Online: 4300 hours, quit in 2021, tried to go back and the main driving force (I was running a bot) has gone away because they made what I was doing more annoying to do.
Path of Exile: 3700 hours, currently I play this game but it's not realistic to ever hit 10,000 hours as I only go for challenge every league and don't really like mapping + very end game goals.

Do any of you have 5000 or even 10000 hours played in a game?

If you are into it, try logistical... it's a simple semi-idling game where you ship cargo, but you won't get 10k hours on any ONE game since it's modular... the game is broken up into several sub-games, but your TOTAL will certainly be that high

Ive over 13.6k in Oldschool RuneScape so far. Think my main in RS2 had 313 days played or so with some alt accounts that might put it at 10k.

Nothing else has gone over 10k hours and i dont think ive hit 5k hours in anything else either. Even with all my replays of FF VIII and X i dont think they touch the ballpark of 5k.

Should go without saying that MMO's are likely your best bet for that kinda playtime though. The Scapes are the only ones ive ever really messed with though so cant advise others.

I'm willing to say I've broken 10k hours on Stardew Valley easy.

Probably come close to doing that for Minecraft as well.

Just doing the math in my head, I might have put in 10k hours into the Mass Effect and Dragon Age games, but but that's also from doing more than a dozen runs each. Probably the same for New Vegas, for the same reason.

I might have 10k+ in Skyrim as well, if you count different ports (and maybe even if you don't), but again, that's across like a dozen different runs.

I feel like unless you plan on doing multiple playthroughs or just mindless grind an MMO you're going to have a really hard time finding any game that you can play for 10k hours straight and not be completely bored insane out of your mind.

I do not enjoy video games in the same way as you do. Like I would go to the point that I am extremely jealous that you basically spend tends of thousands of dollars a year buying video games just to either sit on them or give them away. My head just doesn't work that way. I can't play a game I don't find an interesting time sink. It's for a lack of a better word, painful. Like I am torturing myself.

I put ~250 days of /played time into WoW over the course of 5-6 years of playing off and on, but by that point I just got completely bored of it and lost all interest in playing. That's probably going to need to be your approach: Something you can play a lot of, but spread out over a long time. Trying to force yourself to do it quickly for the sake of reaching an arbitrary milestone is just going to make you miserable.

In general, though, as a specific goal, this isn't a very good idea. Those that have spent 10,000+ hours doing something did so because they found something they genuinely enjoyed enough to stick with it for that long. While that's a good thing and hoping to eventually find that is reasonable, actively seeking it out - especially based on other people's recommendations, given how profoundly subjective that level of interest is going to be - is pretty inevitably going to result in you forcing yourself to stick with a game past the point where you lose interest and then getting frustrated because you couldn't make it to 10k. Try out different games, and if you find one that will hold your interest to such an extent, that's great, but also don't worry if you don't. There's nothing wrong with experiencing a wider variety of games instead of focusing so deeply on one.

are you doing multiplayer or modding? cuz I 100%'d the base game (this was before the multiplayer patch even existed) in only 70 hours

On the current version?

With the tropical island added, I usually take around 160-180 hours per run before I start getting bored and stop playing. Sometimes I mange to finish grinding the 10mil for the golden clock, sometimes not. And while I'm definitely not a speedrunner, I do start quick (maximize profit in spring, buy strawberries, get the greenhouse/ancient fruit/keg/cask combo running as soon as possible), so I'm not just taking my time doing more relaxed runs like a lot of people do.

I usually wind up completing the Community Center somewhere around Fall of Year 2 (though with the mixed bundles option I've gotten it as early as Winter Year 1, and going the Joja route I've gotten it in Fall Year 1). Then the island/volcano completes relatively quickly (about a season or so), and I mostly start grinding out ancient fruit for money to buy the larger stuff (return wand, golden clock) finishing off the Qi challenges to buy his stuff, and completing whatever collections I haven't finished yet (shipping, fishing, museum stuff, cooking, etc). I don't go out of my way to maximally optimize profit in later stages, as I kind of like my farm to look nice rather than having everything crammed together with just enough room to walk (I maybe grow 200 ancient fruit a week and keg them), so I generally make it to at least Year 4 before I stop, and my general stopping point is usually somewhere around Year 6. Though I've made it as far as Year 8 before.

And yeah, that's without mods. With mods (and there are a metric shitton of them) I could easily see a run taking way longer to finish.

I've basically done multiple runs on every farm type (though I prefer Four Corners now), played co-op a couple times, and usually go back to it every couple games or so. It's just a chill time-waster, and I usually play it with the sound off while listening to podcasts, so I usually don't even realize how long I've been playing it for until I'm looking at the character menu and I see all my characters showing something like 180 hours or the occasional 200 hours (and those are just the ones I haven't deleted - I've deleted a lot of runs to tidy up the menu).

Sort of the same way I play Minecraft. I usually create a new world and start playing, work on a project, dump like 100+ hours into it, then eventually get bored, drift off, go play a couple other games in the meantime, and then eventually get in the mood again and start up a new world and a new project. Then eventually I've got like 20 worlds in my menu that I'm never going to open up again and just start deleting them.

My biggest Minecraft project was one where I covered the entire world (on the 360, so a 864x864 map) with a single layer of cobblestone block in the sky to block out the sun. It took about three quarters of a million blocks, and I did it in Survival Mode (so no cheating it all in, I had to make it/mine it). And then I filled in the sides with "walls" (which pretty much doubled the amount of cobble I used). On top of which I built a huge treetop elf village, a massive underground dwarf fortress, an underground lab, a large ranch farm, and a "sky castle". So that world took a looooong time.

not like 3d gaming just try to do something fun in 2d (although you'll have to setup a 2d projection in 3d which is annoying). aim for like atari or NES quality at most, at least in terms of graphics. in terms of gameplay, if you know how to program there's almost no end to the kinds of things you can do.

it's true that it doesn't map 1-1 with writing business applications but it's still good practice and experience, and in particular, working on projects that are just at or slightly beyond your ability to keep under control is an excellent way to improve the size of projects that you can handle.

I assumed it was the nightly post topics. But thanks for letting me know and not blocking me. Feel free to chuck me on ignore if you wish though. Blocking was just a problem because it kept removing posts in the anime topic and then I was just logging into a different account to be able to read it while having user features. Sorry about all that.

Just like offering people games, endless bundles is now just the best way for me since Valve blocks gifting on the store from cheaper regions. I'm just able to dump my spare cash all on this junk because I don't have a lot of outgoing.

I get not being so interested in games, I tend to go read when I need to spent free time and can't stand gaming. Admittedly not much good stuff, book wise I'm more likely to find stuff to read on fanfiction.net or a fic on r/HFY rather than pop down to the local library. Manga and anime too, of course, picked up The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan recently, though only found the first book.

Hope you can find something to interest you, whatever it might be.

Few suggestions

First there is an mmo called Dungeons and dragons online. It's even free if you want, though i'd recommend getting a $10 monthly sub as it adds a ton.

You can play that forever, there are people who have multiple characters that have like a year + age on them. You reincarnate after you hit cap, adding a bonus each time, and there is something like 250 possible reincarnations that all give you a different boost. Each reincarnation is probably about a week real time playing.

That is more modern, includes graphics etc, but if you REALLY wanna get lost in a game with no end ever in sight......

3 kingdoms is a mud, I have probably about 3 years of actual time played (in game) with somewhere about a 97% in combat rate between my characters. That sounds like alot, but there are people with over 10 years of actual in game time. You could start playing now, play non-stop every day the whole time your awake, for the next 15 years, and STILL not catch up to many older players. Literally could play till 2050 with tons of stuff left to do.

There are of course tons of other games, but both of those can pretty much let you play something forever.

Blocking was just a problem because it kept removing posts in the anime topic and then I was just logging into a different account to be able to read it while having user features. Sorry about all that.
Nah I'm good at filtering out threads / people. You keep on being you. Only thing I have gotten irritated at recently was helly and whatever he is doing with his alts at 5am my time (and like 10-11 hours from now).

There are of course tons of other games, but both of those can pretty much let you play something forever.
I haven't seen you post in a while. Was thinking you died or something. Good to see you're still with us.

Whenever someone sings fansa and they don't input their name instead of mona at the mona-beam part I'm like "Are you even a real aidoru?".

Bro, for real. I literally put 3,000 hours into the first, original MH(2004)! And you remember how bare bones that shit was.

MHW somehow has come closest to that. Thats impressive considering all the other MH PSP games Ive played.
I did so much fashion hunting in 4U and World
