Other than objective stuff like bugs and what not, I get the vibe a lot of people thought this wouldn't be a Saints Row game. Cause most the complaints are things that always were in the series. The writing always seemed like 13 year olds wrote it. The graphics were never the reason you played the games. I forgot the other complaints lol. But anyway. They're expecting deepness or certain quality from a game that always only had one goal, being fun. And none of the complaints Ive seen say anything about it not being fun. They're mostly shallow takes on how it looks and the characters. So, if you're there for the right reasons that make sense, there's probably fun to be had. Enjoy your game. Im waiting to see about the bugs more and a price drop. I rarely buy games day one. Alot of the takes here come off as people jumping on the scores as gospel because they had no want to play it to begin with and like the feeling of being right. It's why they're all a couple sentences that are just different combinations of the same post. But it's pretty obvious at this point that these open world GTA style games are a real struggle to make these days. It has been a long time since one actually reviewed well that wasn't GTA. Maybe Sleeping Dogs? It's stupid that culture wars has really taken over the discussion around this game. None of that would make a difference. Volition haven't progressed since Saints Row the Third over a decade ago. Their games still play and look very similar. Unfortunately I don't think it sold well. Dunno if Legion did either. I think it's a tough genre to tackle. Production values need to be high and content needs to be varied. People seem to forget how the old Saints Row games would pad out content by recycling 10 levels of different types of side missions you were forced to do to progress the story. It's like expecting the sequel to a B-Movie to be triple A and then being surprised it looks the same budget it did the first time. Saints Row was the first GTA style game on the 360. A full two years early. Tech wise it was a big step up from GTA San Andreas. Ragdoll physics and full free aim on a controller felt pretty advanced for the time. The rest of the series released between the super serious GTAIV and the more return to form GTAV. So they gradually amped up the wackiness to great success. But they hit the limit with that and GTAV raised the bar higher than Volition is ever capable of hitting. Now a decade later they did have an opportunity to take advantage of the lack of a major new GTA game in a significantly long time. But they don't really know what to offer. Nobody else really does. Even though GTAV is old it's sense of production values and scale still can't be matched. Saints Row as a franchise has probably offered all it can really. Those have never ended up being relevant whenever I played a game. Cause it literally boils down to "That waa mildly annoying for a minute" lol. He was on the same drive in the sane truck, so it came off as a run on joke. Im not one to judge a comedians whole act by one joke out of context. Again, with already low expectations. It's kind of funny how much Im reiterating how shitty the writing is in a series I like. I usually at the very least like the writing ironically. Also, the seriousness of the situations are all over the place in a way that doesn't make a ton of sense, exactly. I wasn't hyped for this and hardly played saints row but I definitely like it. Definitely does need a patch though. I'd give a 7.5 out of ten. I think it's just they enjoy shitting on people's fun even though they have games that scored low and still hold value to them. I get it if you actually played the game and you're telling your personal experience. That's completely fair. But what's going on here is people using other people's opinions just to try to make others feel as if they have bad taste for enjoying a game they seen 3 minutes worth of clips for.
