Yeah, I finished the video of sips playing it and it looks fine. He really only did the one mission, so I don't know if the dialogue gets better or worse among the main four characters. The gameplay is exactly what I was expecting from SR, they were never all that impressive gameplay wise.

Well, that's just what happens when you gotta do a Switch port too.
...oh wait.

Seems like a very solid wait for 50% discount this Christmas.

2 hours in myself, done a few of the side quests. Seems mundane, very average. Playing on a PC, and there's no way to completely disable auto aim, the weapons themselves also are not very accurate. Makes shooting a chore rather than fun.

While playing,I think about playing other games instead. 5 out of 10, "It is ok".

Maybe it's like the older games? Where some of the weapons are crap before you upgrade them. E.g. the basic SMG in Saint's Row 3 was trash at first but became a fire sprayer that mowed down a dozen enemies between reloads.

I saw a VGC review where they gave it 2/5.

i think its biggest problem is that they focused on taking it back to its roots, but did nothing at all to add anything to even justify a reboot. it's a bit of 2 and a bit of 3, which i'm enjoying well enough, but the 5's and 6's it's getting are completely fair. nothing's new gameplay wise, and they phoned it in hard with the new skills and perks. the level cap's 20 and you can hit that before you even really start the story missions, so you'll have seen about everything upgrades have to offer pretty quickly.

Yeah I think a reboot would have went down better if they actually had some more modern gameplay to back it up. Surely they didn't expect the same old style would still hold up well? It wasn't even particularly great for the time. Agents of Mayhem had the similar framework and got ripped to shreds 6 years ago. You can't really get away with waves of generic enemies standing around mindlessly to just get shot with no real thought behind it anymore. There needs to be something more.

I know they're a small studio compared to other AAA developers but the game must have had some sort of development trouble surely. Wouldn't surprise me if they had some ambitious ideas years ago and had to gradually scale things back. But the foundation should have been something more modern to begin with. Especially since their last game was Agents of Mayhem.

The sad thing is the timeframe of the Saints Row franchise now matches the timeframe between GTA1 and GTAV. Rockstar really is in a league of their own.

I've got about 6 hours total playtime. It has its ups and downs, but I don't have any buyer's remorse. It is fun just exploring, checking out every shop. The prices for things are so random and varied though. Want a cactus tattoo on your leg, $55. Want a Johnny Gat tattoo on your leg, $12,000.

The aiming is inconsistent, alot of times I feel like John McClane in Die Hard 2 right before he realizes he was shooting blanks. "I was aiming square at the guy driving and shot 50 rounds, how did nothing hit him?".

I've only had one glitch, my character got frozen in place as two gang members wailed away on me. Luckily jamming on the roll button eventually broke me free.

Oh no. Ill buy it for $10 in a few months....

guess its a dollar bin store type of game.

feels ludicrous that they're asking full price for it considering all the issues it has...
