Record labels (which Hayasaka's Japanese VA is part of one) and songs that are also released on soundtracks can be a bitch to deal with licensing for. Even just being allowed to translate the lyrics for a song like that can take extra licensing, like what happened with Zakuro's songs in Tokyo Mew Mew New this season. They didn't have the lyrics ready the day the episode aired and only added them a week or two later because they had to sort out the licensing rights for those songs. That is fine if the slice of life elements are strong, but it almost feels like this would have been filler compared with the strength of S1. At least to me. I kinda compare it to Card Captor Sakura vs. Clear Card Hen, where CCS was filled with action and had a lot of fun slice of life elements that didn't feel slow or forced. Apparently season 1 is re-airing in Japan this Fall, so it seems likely that the studio were aiming for Fall 2022 and had even bought out the time slot already, but COVID delays forced the show back a season to Winter 2023. Oh well. We've already waited almost 3 years for more Maple already, so 1 more season isn't that big of a deal.
