Yo, Smile was awesome go see Smile.

Great ideas in this one, and it was very tense throughout the film. Top notch stuff.

I watched The Descent for the first time. It was so good! Is the sequel worth watching at all?

Smile was far, FAR better than expected. Really effective jump scares that aren't typical or predictable. Hubby and I got GOT by two each- and when I say we got GOT I mean both of us audibly screamed or shrieked at one and physically flinched at another. I can't even remember the last time I shrieked aloud in a theater at a horror movie, and I can't believe that now it's going to be for a movie I thought was going to be comparable to that stupid Truth or Dare Blumhouse schlock because of the cheesy snapchat creepy smile filters. In reality despite a similar gimmick Smile has less to do with that dumpster fire of a movie and takes more inspiration from It and It Follows and I highly recommend experiencing it while it's in theaters.

Just saw Smile as well. Awesome film. Still mad that the trailer ruined maybe the best jump scare of the movie.

So uh Terrifier 2 delivers.

Really good film. Art the Clown is like a top level slasher villain. There is one kill that is just absolutely insane and like the meanest god damn thing I've ever seen in a horror movie.

I want Terrifier 3 like ASAP.

Terrifier 2 made $400,000 in a single night. Hoooooly hell. That's incredible. There were at least 40 people in my theater last night, and I know they're opening in a lot more theaters for the rest of the weekend around here. I think this movie is going to shockingly be a success.

New Hellraiser was good! I think it knocks 2 out of the top three ( it was 1 > 4 > 2 before, never liked 2 as much other people did).

1. Smile
2. The Black Phone
3. Fall
4. X
5. Barbarian
6. Bodies Bodies Bodies
7. Scream
8. Nope
9. Don't Worry Darling
10. Beast
11. Pearl
12. The Invitation
13. The Cursed
14. Firestarter
15. Men

A little late updating this list, especially since Halloween Ends (lawl) just came out. I'm not super stoked for it, despite it being my favorite horror film series. Kills was very underwhelming and the reviews Ends has liken it a lot more to that film than the first one from 2018 (which was great). It's a shame it probably won't be very good, but the big franchises tend not to be I guess. I was just a bit spoiled by how good 2018 was and still coming down from that high. Maybe I'll be surprised.

Smile easily takes my spot for best horror film of the year and I can't imagine it gets unseated either. Probably my favorite horror film since Hereditary, and the only film in history that evoked a guttural scream from me in a theater. I was definitely super embarrassed and in shock I got got so hard. While yeah, I sure wish the trailer hadn't spoiled that great neck twisty thing in the car the film surprisingly had more than enough in it to make up for not getting to witness that in person. I'm really happy for the film and all of those involved with it for really wowing people with such a delightful surprise; the film was able to have the best box office hold ever for an R rated horror film next to Get Out.

17. Men

Adjusted for Terrifier 2 and Halloween Ends.

I was pretty happily surprised by each. Neither were great but I came in with such low expectations, especially in the case of Halloween.

While the movie is flawed and easily the most bizarre movie within the entire series, which is saying a lot, I didn't hate it. Unlike the critical opinion of it, I found Cory to be a pretty compelling character and it was interesting to see a kind of tragic villain the town basically created in light of Michael's disappearance. That being said, as a big Halloween junkie it was a little painful to see the almighty Michael Myers reduced to this weakened state. But it was unique and took chances, and it surprised me, so I have to give it some credit. I realize I may be the only person to place it above Nope but it's a tale of two films for me. One I went in super hyped for, and it disappointed me. The other I went in dreading and it surprised me by not being bad. I'm not sure if long time these rankings would remain the same but those are my feelings on them at the moment.

I did not enjoy Halloween Ends too much. I think it's hilarious people are doing these "Guys, you just don't get the movie" takes when it's not subtle at all about what it was doing and what they wanted to say. Like it was completely blunt.

And damn it just wasn't really interesting, which is the worst of it. All three of these Halloween reboot movies feel so different, and I don't think any of them necessarily transition to the next one neatly as well.

This felt really weak. Like it barely felt like a real ending to a trilogy, and some parts were just hilariously bad. Like they didn't even play off everything Halloween Kills at all. It had next to nothing to do with it.

Frustrating watch, and I don't understand people trying to come into it with these paeudo-intellectual takes on a movie that's very obvious and executes everything so poorly.

Now I've finally seen Pearl - fantastic, even better than X. It's very close between Pearl and Barbarian for best of the year, for me. Pearl easily has the best horror soundtrack this year. and possibly the most uncomfortable end credits sequence of all-time

I really like the aesthetic of it - the throwback titles, vivid colors and whimsical score. Pretty cool when a movie can pay homage to both Wizard of Oz and Psycho in the same stroke.

Mia Goth's performance was honestly borderline-Oscar worthy. The monologue that holds on her for what seems like forever was really impressive.

I don't really get how her husband would stay with her after all that lol, but maybe you could argue he went crazy from the war or something.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoyed Pearl more than X. Yes X leans more heavily into the horror, but the drama and suspense set up in Pearl is topnotch. There's one scene in the middle that is reminiscent of Toni Collette's rant about trying to keep her family together in Hereditary and both of those performances are Oscar worthy imo. X is the superior horror, but as far as the better film as a whole I've gotta give it to the prequel. I can't wait for the thrilling conclusion. It would be amazing if the entire trilogy was released in one year, but I know that's way too much to hope for. I'm surprised we even got two in the same year. Mia Goth must be tired from filming those back to back.

Happy Halloween! Had a bit of a J-horror day so far - watched Cure (1997), which was a decent horror mystery, and The Ring (2002), one a the all-time best horror mysteries. Trying to think of another good one to watch tonight, or might watch a friend stream Faith 3.

The idea of old Oscar voters watching their screener for Terrifier 2 knowing nothing about it makes me happy

They won't, because they don't watch the films they vote for, but I can dream
