Just finished Love and Thunder. I thought the shorter length helped it because it didn't waste much time. It knew the story it wanted to tell, and it told it.

also heck yeah Roy Kent as Hercules

Thor beated.

It's no Ragnarok, but it was a good, solid film. I don't think it went beyond in any means, but I also would not detract from it in any way. And it had some really cute moments.

And yeah, Brett Goldstein as Hercules made me cheer.

Something I wanted to mention, while I didn't like the style of moving MoM took after the Illuminati, I did enjoy the camera work and cinematography that happened during those scenes

Thor I think one upped it on the cinematography level. I think once they reached the shadow realm or whatever they called it the black and white aesthetic was a great choice with the colors that did come true really selling the action to me

Another aspect of color stood out to me. Thor's cape felt VERY red in this movie. I think they intentionally used as little red as possible in the scene to make his cape stand out or something because it looked great.

The movie was great but Thor was definitely the stupidest he's ever been. I think Ragnarok had a better balance of Thor making jokes and being serious. He's basically all jokes in this movie.

That part was really cool which is why I was really disappointed that that wasn't the climax of the movie and we had a much more generic final battle sequence that came after it.

I felt like Rachel McAdams was basically holding the movie together during the entire 2nd act. I was impressed with her performance regardless but I feel like I'm behind the curve with her (please don't take it like that). I saw the Downey Sherlock movies when they came out but never since then, should probably also check out Mean Girls and Red Eye sometime.

Wow I just realized Cumberbatch and McAdams have both been in Sherlock Holmes adaptations. Mind blown. Also come to think of it huh, guess the women in Strange's life got plenty of screen time in MoM, although Strange himself felt like he was clearly the focus the whole time and I enjoyed the movie all the more for it.

It feels like she's a fairly highly-regarded actor and I feel like I should have not been surprised but I was. She and Olsen were the MVPs of the movie IMO. I do stand by that Strange himself always felt like the focus though and the movie was the better for it.

To unironically discuss this, to me only one of those is "fine". The other is quite polarising.

But the thing they had in common was the way both were review bombed. I may be misremembering but there was a concerted effort to review bomb both movies. While some of TLJ's detractors (not on b8) used its review-bombed audience score to say "no see it's actually bad and everyone thinks it's bad," to me the minute the same thing happened to the aggressively fine Captain Marvel (with the common link there being "women") that whole argument was shut down.

That's the link.

But might be wrong its fuzzy and dumb shit

Some people are just way less reasonable. I never understood how anyone could take fictional stories so seriously that they'd be willing to threaten creators over it. And I spend most of my time in fantasy worlds.

Captain Marvel was just a basic movie and rushed as all hell. They scrambled to get it out before Endgame and it hurt both movies a little because of it.

But no it isn't bad by any means. Brie Larson is a fine choice to play the character, she just could have used more time practicing the role. Hopefully it will be remedied in the sequel.

Haha yeah it's a pretty obnoxious take.

But yeah IIRC a lot of people mentioned Rose and Holdo in their criticisms for story reasons and then the incels took it as an opportunity to practice hate speech.

Same thing with Captain Marvel, it disappointed a lot of people, and the same people took it out on Larson.

I've been a pretty big Carol Danvers fan. And I am always endlessly disappointed when they keep screwing up the character. I don't particularly love how she's characterized a lot of the time in the movies, and don't get me started with how they treat her in the comics.

I also haven't loved Brie Larson in the role, and I probably would've preferred someone else have the role to begin with because I just don't think she's equipped to do great in this role when we have bang up actors and actresses killing it in their roles normally.

Crossing my fingers for a great showing in Ms. Marvel though.

I really do believe it was the rushed nature of the film that didn't allow her to more comfortably step into the role. Everyone else had time to rehearse and get into character, she was just basically thrown into it. Then they compounded on that by trying to make Carol a wise-cracking sarcastic jerk. But that only works for Tony, not so much for a cosmic super powered cop. They didn't write the character correctly at all, and I don't think any actor could have really done much better than Larson with the material provided.

We'll see soon enough though, since those excuses won't apply for the upcoming film. This will be her real moment of truth.
