I haven't dabbled in plugins yet. Might look into it if there's super useful QoL stuff. I play AST a fairly casual level, though doing Extremes/Savages has really got me into the raiding mindset for every Job I play now lol

yeah there's useful QoL stuff. you can live without most of it but it's pretty nice. the biggest thing is, if you're not on the west coast and your ping is too slow to let you weave in between machinist or RDM's 1.5 second skills, there's a plugin that lets you do that. it makes it so that you have ping like if you lived right next to the servers.

other useful stuff is showing debuff timers on the party list, a plugin that shows you every second of a countdown instead of just 15 10 and <5 (useful for savage when your opener requires things at a specific time), uhhh... a plugin that stops asking you "Are you sure?" every time you desynth an item or create a materia or just anything. Off the top of my head. There's other neat stuff. Most of it you can live without it though, but also it's not very hard to set up.

Oh the big thing is it all comes through the QuickLauncher app, which lets you just click it and the game immediately opens without you having to enter your username/password every time

My PS4 appears to have died so I may just need to unsub for a while. My son has a computer but I don't own Endwalker on it so I can't keep up with the relic grind until I either fix/replace a PS4 or 5 or buy Endwalker on Steam.

Oh yeah this'll be my first time being caught up with the whole relic weapon grind.

Anything I should be particularly aware of? I've gotten my ARR, HW, and SB relics. Started the ShB relic, too, but I've been too lazy to get the memories despite having a maxed out Blue Mage with all of the spells lol

The Variant Dungeons are so cool! I'm really enjoying exploring all of the different paths

I love that I'm at the point where I'm trying to build a second set of Abyssos armor and roll on everything but rings... and still have to redo the wing because I got outbid on all six rolls.

I've never noticed how many people actively go out of their way to try and drop shit in Ley Lines. Like, when I'm Bard, I usually yeet myself away from stupid-AoE.

Did the Omega: Beyond the Rift quest and the Tales of Newfound Adventure quest last night. That Omega quest was amazing, and the voidsent one gave some interesting lore. Curious what they do for (6.2) Cagnazzo and Rubicante.

Yeah I think I may have come close to tearing up at the end of the Omega followup.

(Omega: Beyond the Rift) The part at Mare Lamentorum where Omega asks you who was justified between Venat, Hermes, and Emet-Selch... that really made me pause and think. Haven't had a video game really make me contemplate philosophy that hard before, even though I knew, experienced, and understood what all three of them stood for throughout the course of Endwalker. Still... the logical and analytical perspective from Omega really put quite the spin on the question, and really on the quest as a whole. What was also heartwarming was talking with that one guy who lost his son during the Final Days. Never thought his situation would ever get addressed again, and man... what a masterpiece of a quest line, though short it was.

I mean, he answered the question thoughtfully and completely, the way he always answers interview questions. It's not his fault literally every video game media outlet wrote their headlines with shit like "YOSHI P HATES BLACK PEOPLE, SAYS NO PEOPLE OF COLOR IN FF16" which deliberately misrepresents what he actually said.

It's because all of his points here are 1 to 1 with all the people saying Rings of Power shouldn't have had any black people, like...to the dot.

I don't believe there's animosity behind it, it's just about the worst possible time to have come out with a statement like this.

And of course the (factual) lightening of Y'shtola's skin in every expansion is back in the conversation again as a result of this, which when it came up during a Q&A before he said "well she's indoors a lot", which is like...also a bad answer

Jan 2023 I finally start Heavensward

Tanked for the first time today. Anxious as hell, never done it before (Im a gladiator for the moment).

Tanking has a fairly high skill floor but once you're past that it's by far the easiest role to play. Turn on your stance, run into the mobs, hit your AoE skills until everything is looking at you, repeat. Keep one defensive cooldown running as much as you can, especially if you're pulling more than one pack at once. That's about all there is to it.

First two times I tanked was an absolute nightmare, the first being Satasha went WENT super well but I was terrified. The second time was ACTUALLY bad, but was also the old Darkhold, and I didn't actually know how the dungeon worked since it was my first time playing it since MSQ, so.....yeaaaaaaah.....

After you get used to it though it's smooth sailing. If it's a normal dungeon the only reason tanking should pose a challenge at all is if you're party is bad, at which point you just gotta adjust and pull less mobs.

There's only one instance I can think of, in the level 73 dungeon, where my party was so bad I had to pull 1 Mob at a time.

Now, depending on the fight, tanking a Trial could be a different story. Gotta know the fight. My first Trial I ever tanked was Titania.....not a great start.

Haukke Manor was confusing since I completely forgot the layout lol.

Tanked up to that so far, with Titan upcoming. Someone mentioned that I should hit sprint if I'm going to pick up other mobs too. But mostly people have been great!

Just tanked the Darkhold for the first time. Did leveling roulette because needed to get to level 49, and that's what came up (I unlocked it but never did it previously). Good lord was it a nightmare. Thank god the healer was great. I did fine during the bosses, but the rest.........not ideal lol

I haven't done any tanking in parties yet. The responsibility sounds terrifying

Most people are more lenient if you tell them its your first time tanking for a dungeon.

If you want practice and you have a low-level tank, just roll the leveling roulette with it. Anyone can tank Sastasha.

I've only ever played Dark Knight at all, and only like one job quest.

I was Scholar for MSQ through Heavensward, and dabbled in Ninja and Blue Mage for fun with friends

I think when I resub I might start White Mage to get the rust off...

Most dungeons are literal straight hallways - most of the wackiness of the ARR dungeons was removed in the most recent revisions. It's damn near impossible to get lost in a dungeon nowadays.

it's usually the tanks that are responsible for the random mechanics, like finding the keys, or putting the explosives on the cart and pushing it, or whatever it is

unless you're saying all THAT was removed? I guess I haven't played in a few months...

In my experience, everyone does that random shit. Nobody wants to be trapped in a low level dungeon, they're all going to contribute to get out as fast as possible. The tank isn't any more responsible than anyone else for keys and other objectives.

oh yeah when I started last year and did just the base game, I almost never did those things. The party was always doing those things before I even realized what was happening. Upon replays of those dungeons I did try to contribute though.

I remember that most dungeons post-ARR are fairly linear, but some of the ARR ones have a lot of alternate ways (or used to). I got so turned around in the Darkhold. Bless two of the three party members that gave me commendations, I super didn't deserve it.

Tanking for new Castrum Meridianum was awesome though. Maaaay be able to finish off ARR tonight, and I think I've held my own decently as a tank, which has been nice!
