I wonder what the significance is of Drebber's words randomly being in orange. Usually orange text is meant to highlight something important, but not for him. Is it supposed to highlight some verbal tic? Maybe some sort of mechanical voice since he moves around like a robot or something? I dunno!
Also sickest burn in the game so far: Ryunosuke: But how is it possible to construct a machine without really understanding the principles it relies on? Drebber: Well, you're practicing law without really understanding the principles it relies on, aren't you? --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Is it supposed to highlight some verbal tic? Maybe some sort of mechanical voice since he moves around like a robot or something? I dunno!I wondered this too. My interpretation was that he has a verbal tic where he stresses odd parts of sentences, but it isn't really clear since he's never voice acted and there isn't any one line he gives that makes it clear what it's supposed to signify. It's really well done way to convey pronunciation in a non-vocal medium. also when the heck did the waxwork Professor model get into the courtroom, Ryunosuke just points and suddenly it's there instantaneous kinesis IS real --- ... Actually, here's another hot take: this is the first case since 3-2 to introduce this many great characters themes in the same case between Harebrayne, Drebber, and Tusspells. 3-2 almost managed four with Ron, Atmey, and Godot, but I don't really like Larry's theme that much.
It's possible I'm forgetting another entrant since there are a lot of good character themes out there. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

Yeah, I love the G2-3 characters and their themes. I wish Drebber's music played more often!
I'll offer up 4-2 because I like the Kitakis, Trucy, and Klavier's theme, but those are mostly main character themes being so good. G2-3 and 3-2 feel a little more unique since their one-off characters with really good themes. --- Bitto "[Freud] started his scientific career by trying to explain the sexuality of a fish. Whew, G2-3 complete at last. What a great case. You can tell when Takumi knew it was time to get serious because the multi-witness testimonies went away on the second day (even when Drebber, Sithe, and Tusspells were all up there, only one person was giving testimony at a time), and the jury was barely noticeable. Up to now, they tend to bog the case down, but they were actually put to good use this time.

Moving on to G2-4, the title of the case is "Twisted Karma and His Last Bow." I'm wondering if Twisted Karma is supposed to be a play on Kazuma's sword, Karuma, but I'm not sure.
But "His Last Bow" is the final story in the Holmes canon in terms of chronology (although not the final one ever written by Doyle). Most Holmes stories take place in the late 1800s or early 1900s, but this one takes place shortly before the start of World War I (Doyle published the story in 1917, so you could almost view the story as wartime propaganda). It's also one of only two Holmes stories that isn't written from Watson's perspective. It's written in third person, and it's more of a spy story than a mystery. Holmes assumes the alias "Altamont" during this story, which showed up as the name of the gas company in G2-2. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

The "main story" of those two games is fantastic
The main characters are also fantastic But those games suffer from the same problem all recent AA games suffer from - it's too bloated I mean, come on, looking at the "line count per case" G2-3 is up there with all the epic cases, and G1-1 is like 2-1 and 3-1 combined Between juries and multiple witnesses at the same time, there is plenty of text Of course I am sure that for some people "more text=better" but to me it was kinda tiring after 50 hours to be honest --- wololo ... I mean, if we look past the nostalgia and give it a pass for being the first game, it's kind of lacking. 1-1 is a 30 minute mini case and 1-2 and 1-3 have some serious early installment weirdness and awkward story beats. The last two cases are the main standouts. From what I've seen, most people tend to rank AA1 around the middle. --- </topic> ... Copied to Clipboard!

That's not what I've seen. PW1 consistently ranks in the top 3. This is of course anecdotal and depends on the demographics of who's there at the time but here were some polls I've seen that were done of it https://www.reddit.com/r/AceAttorney/comments/ir9wax/updated_ace_attorney_cases_from_worst_to_best/ https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/180648-phoenix-wright-ace-attorney-spirit-of-justice/74458007 Here is someone else's observations on it https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/318976-the-great-ace-attorney-chronicles/79627791/957438331 (although I'd personally swap JFA with AJ since I've seen numerous people outright quit the series due to AJ but AJ did seem to have a surge of fans recently somehow) 1-3 is considered part of the 3rd case syndrome prior to Layton vs. Perhaps there might be some recency bias since I remember SoJ was part of the top 3 the past few years before it suddenly went down a little but yeah, currently I've noticed the most common top 3s are T&T, AAI2, and Resolve. AA1 was always around the middle, albeit on the higher end. --- </topic> ... Copied to Clipboard!

1-3 gets lumped in there, but it shouldn't. That's the case that really shows you what Ace Attorney can be before 1-4 kicks it into overdrive.
And my time to play is limited because I am married and also working pretty much every day, so I only get in a few hours at most per day. I've had to adjust to the slower pace of play (it took me like six months to beat Cold Steel IV!). --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

1-3 does have its issues imo. The investigations are oddly paced, which is something AA1 has in general, due to its 3 day short investigation, and 3 day short trial system that they eventually made to a 2 day longer investigation and trial that became the default. This makes seeing the culprit for the first time at the 3rd investigation feel kind of cheap. The culprit themselves isn't very strong either, not having much of a personality other than being stoic and shocked. The final segment is you proving it was self-defense which just feels anti-climatic due to how antagonistic they were being and the lengths they went to cover it up. They tried harder than the all-powerful CEO from the last case.
The main positives of the case are Will Powers being a cool defendant who shows up again for the best case in the series, Edgeworth's first time aiming for the truth over his victory, and the introduction of steel samurai which becomes a prominent part of AA's lore (although the fact it was directed by a perverted creep does feel off in retrospect. They probably would've changed his characterization if they know how prominent it would be). The case itself is kind of meh though, its positives are mainly introducing recurring elements. --- </topic> ... Copied to Clipboard!

Dee Vasquez is a good villain. Her stoic, no-selling personality leads to a lot of funny moments.
And it has a few twists that will blow your mind the first time you play it because you didn't realize it was that kind of game, and it's great. It's also unique because this is the only time you get to see Phoenix/Maya before they really know each other, and it's a cool dynamic. --- ... Copied to Clipboard!

That's fair if you think that, but she's one of the least memorable culprits in the series despite appearing in the first game. Every other culprit in the trilogy is more memorable, I'd go so far as to even say I hear about Wellington more.
Like I said, most of its pros come from nostalgia and its legacy of doing things "first" but playing it after beating the whole series it's lacking compared to its better written and better paced successors. --- </topic> ... Copied to Clipboard!

GAA1-1 and 1-3 both utilize circumstantial evidence surrounding steak as sound legal arguments. But does 1-3 have a hidden baby? I don't think so! Anyway 1-3 wins.
GAA1-2 and GAA1-4 are definitely NOT better than 1-3. I like GAA1-4 more than most, but it just isn't. GAA1-3 is a great case, but it's still mired in tutorial stuff and bad character design. 1-3 wins. I'd say GAA1-5 is better than 1-3, but it's a tough call. 1-3 is formative for the series in many ways. It has the first real surprising twist that the series is known for, and it's got some good Edgeworth. The culprit is a big whatever.
