Theres a lot of messed up stuff that goes on in pharmacy regarding staffing, hours, workload, lack of lunches/breaks, and expectations overall. It needs to be reported more publicly.

I'd love it if our store made the news tomorrow due to no one working, but I'm sure DM will find some cronies and desperate saps to work and "prove" how things can get done just fine.

It's a public health crisis IMO. Last thing I would want my pharmacist counting my pills to be is distracted due to impossible multitasking.

Maybe you should give them bad reviews online when youre gone. Stores like this should be publicly shamed. Customers need to know.

Why wait? I've been telling customers straight up. Not like they haven't told us themselves that they were going to complain to corporate about how things operate now.

Unfortunately, this is probably not true. They'll just replace us as we leave and continue to rake in profits and assure anyone that comes after them that a few bad eggs don't represent how the company cares about its employees.

Thats the problem: corporate responds to customers that its workers are lazy and overly sensitive. Corporations like this need to go under, tbh, because its THEIR fault and theyre blaming it on the people keeping their business afloat.

Oh, we have spread sheets to prove that you technically should be able to handle the work load.

Okay, so youre saying that youre intentionally trying to figure out exactly how much you can overwork the workers before they implode? I would have to say that the entire store quitting is their answer.

A university hospital is going to be so much better of a work environment. Its honestly worth taking a pay cut IMO but it obviously depends on each persons financial situation.

Without question it is. I worked in retail as a tech and it was awful. I currently work in a Hospital and Ill never go back. I happen to have one of the same Pharmacist from retail I worked with in Hospital now. She went from miserable with literal bags under her eyes to a very happy person when switching

4 months ago, corporate was hailing us as the greatest store in the district. We always got everything done. They congratulated us by throwing out the system and slicing our hours.

Now, we run ourselves ragged, get nothing done on time, and get called the most lazy and worthless collection of workers they've ever seen.

Shit's fucked.

A vial of insulin costs at most $7 to produce and can be sold for $300.

Pharmacies sometimes lose money on prescriptions, becoming more common too. I've heard it's only like ~$0.70 -$2-3 per prescription usually too

pharmacies actually get kind of fucked by insurance companies when it comes to getting paid for dispensed prescriptions. basically when a pharmacy fills a prescription, they bill the patients insurance and the insurance company sends a copay amount that the patient has to pay. So a pharmacy gets that portion of the medication cost immediately when a patient picks up and pays for a prescription. But getting the rest of the payment from the insurance company takes a few weeks and often times they reimburse pharmacies for less than the full amount based on various factors. For example, insurance companies can lower the amount they reimburse a specific pharmacy based on how many of their members are refilling and picking up their medications on time from that pharmacy (in their view, the less on-time a patient is with refilling and picking up their medications, the worse health outcomes they have, which in turn would result in extra costs for the insurance company).

essentially insurance companies can kind of do whatever they want with no transparency when it comes to paying for claims, and the profit margins on prescriptions are low (and in a lot of cases negative). pharmacies have compensated for this by trying desperately to increase the number of prescriptions they fill, while at the same time not adequately staffing up because they want to cut costs wherever possible.

not that these retail pharmacies still wouldnt be stingy on staffing if they were getting better reimbursements from insurance companies, but filling prescriptions isnt a profitable venture on its own.

Yeah, $15/hr is not a livable wage in todays economy. They need to pay up or go under. No two ways about it. Nobody who works at a pharmacy should make a penny less than $30/hr, including techs. Certified pharmacists should make $70k/year minimum.
