Just had my first dungeon healing, Satasha obvs, with a disoriented tank who I assume had forgotten it, and a Lancer I assume was trolling by pulling mobs by himself and only spamming his ranged attack (I assume? It looked like a ranged attack, haven't played Lancer yet) for almost the entire dungeon.

But we made it with nobody dying!

I will definitely save Healer for last to get to 80 because I feel like I may need to do an entire hud change for it. The first time I've felt that a controller may not be the way to go.

Speaking as a dragoon, at Sastasha level thats the only attack that can hit multiple targets.

Wait, that's an AOE attack?

I guess I just thought that ranged splash damage wouldn't look like a dude just tossing a spear at someone's head, lol.

Classes left to unlock: Bard (Archer 28, just need to do Manor 1 time withnthenresr bonus I'll have by after work tonight and quest clean up.), Warrior, Mono, Dragoon. Saving Dragoon for last simply because my roomate is playing it.

From an actual quest objective standpoint, Archer job quests have definitely been the worst so far. Feels like a parody of MMO quest objectives. Plus they require more kills for all their hunting log than anyone else for some reason. Plus with 1 more quest left I feel like this is gonna end with "it's OK that this elezen was a racist".

This is an odd one - theres no normal duty finder version of that trial; theres an equivalent solo duty that acts as the normal version. Its found in the shadowbringers relic weapon questline.

I have White Mage up to 70 now. Turns out I quite like healing! The adage of healers being "DPS but sometimes they cast cure on someone" is not TOO far from the truth (in normal content), just replace cure with regens

Rogue wasn't a 2.0 job. It was actually the only job ever added between expansions. There was a story cutscene where Thancred is fighting alongside Yugiri and it goes like:

Yugiri: Sick moves, bro.
Thancred: Thanks! If anyone wants to have sick moves like mine, they should check up that [ROGUE'S GUILD] conveniently located in downtown Limsa.

New interview with Yoshi-P: https://www.famitsu.com/news/202103/30216750.html

Some highlights I've seen floating around:

An important character to Endwalker will show up in 5.5. Unsure if they mean a new character or a current character who will gain new importance in Endwalker.

Final raid of the Nier series will be a little wilder on mechanics, since they were holding back for the 'finale.'

Some items from the previous two nier raids will be available more easily. (Unsure if they mean upping drop rates or they drop in the new raid with a higher drop rate, but either way I imagine they're talking about the 2b glam stuff specifically)

The weapons will have a 'Nier' feeling. (Probably mean some iconic weapons from the Nier series, like Kaine's sawblade, will be available)

The only real job changes in 5.5 will be numerical. Specifically they think a few melee DPS were having too many 'difficulties. (Which reads to me like maybe raising the minimum damage and lowering the reward for the positional on some positional abilities, but that's just me.) Bigger job changes will be saved for 6.0. No classes will be nerfed in 5.5.

"We're changing the system for duels in 5.5. If you don't get picked for a duel, it will be taken into account and you'll have higher chances of participating in the next duel that's held."

They joke a bit about Zenos picking up a new weapon, Yoshida says that if you look at his scenes in Shadowbringers in order you might get an idea of the role he'll play in Endwalker. Unsure if he means hints about a new weapon or just general character development stuff.

I've never used the NG+ feature so not exactly sure what that would entail.

Duels are a terrible mechanic. Having to spend hours and hours hoping to get lucky and get in (and then very likely quickly dying because there's no way to practice ahead of time) is just a completely nonsensical way to have to qualify for what otherwise could have been some cool solo content.

My opinions on the starting jobs in regards to how they would feel for a new player. This is completely ignoring the upgraded job and is strictly in regards to that road to 30 when starting from scratch.

Gladiator and Maruader - both basically going to feel the same at this point. Gladiator doing less damage is balanced a bit in later feel by have a more versatile AOE for those early dungeons where you're more likely to be surrounded as a tank thank have a bunch if enemies in a row. Job quest is mediocre for both. Overall I feel like both of these are totally decent to play as, and with how easy early dungeons are even you will feel pretty decent about Tanking after just Satasha.

Conjuror - Garbage. Feels bad to play, healing is waaaaay more stressful than tanking as far as first introductions go, and the job quests are some fo the worst. I know WHM has way more going on, but I don't think it's controversial to say that starting as a Conjurist is the worst introduction you can have to this game.

Archer - Only DPS that felt like absolute butt all the way through. Nothing about this felt good to me at all. As the only ranged physical DPS you can start as, I think this is just an issue with how this role feels without a real kit. The AOE is the only thing that I enjoyed and even that has the odd issue that it's hard to tell your....actual area of effect. Bad job quest.

Lancer - an odd one for sure, because it's one of the worst for the first 15 or so levels, then once you get Disembowl it starts going uphill fast. Very active in the 20s and felt good to play, but boy was the road there a slog. No AOE is a problem IMO. Bad job quest.

Thamaturge - pretty decent job quest (better than the actual ARR Black Mage at least lol), feels very active even without the movement thanks to the early job gauge, easy to grasp and feels good to get in the rhythm. Starting as a THM probably helped a lot on my drive to keep at it when I first started out.

Arcanist - Pretty dull. Definitely no comparison to THM, honestly the Carbuncle itself throughout these levels feels like an afterthought, and is practically irrelevant to the job quest itself, which is onky kind of decent, but also a little...wierd. Better than Conjuror at least, but not by much.

Pugilist - Good shit! Job quest is great, immediately active as the only started class with positionals, gives you a stance to play with, multiple straightforward combo strings, just a real fun time. Would probably say this is the best introduction class for the game in regards to DPS.

Rogue - I actually don't think this counts. Asking someone just starting out to restart at level 1 after reaching level 10 (or even way higher than that if you didn't start in Limsa) is a very different ask for an actual new player than me going back and leveling. I can do it in half an hour with the available tools, for an actual newbie that could be a full day's play session. Still, this gets a looot of props for the job quest, definitely the best of these. The actual melee DPS kit is totally serviceable, though I still couldn't get a hold of make the trick attack work in a dungeon. No AoE is a problem here, too.

This is exactly what I did. I started with the full intention of going Rogue though. Picked Marauder so I could start in Limsa, then picked up Rogue and made the switch the second I could.

Also Trick Attack only really functions the way it should at Level 50. Rogue/Ninja has a weird skill progression.

Yeah as long as they know what they're in for, by all means. Not everyone would be willing to halt MSQ progression like that.

It starts getting wonkier when you factor in advanced jobs. You look at something like Arcanist which is pretty shitty but unlocks two distinct jobs in two different roles that open up a while different type of play. Hell, Scholar straight up ditches your whole Arcanist kit other than Ruin and one of the dots. Compare to the far superior THM, which after becoming a BLM...is honestly doing the exact same shit throughout the entirety of ARR, lol. Barely feels like you changed jobs except the quest got worse!

I'm not sure if this is even a problem the devs care about but the leveling experience is pretty laughable for a lot of jobs that just...don't really function properly for a very long time.

Also what melee jobs were struggling and why this tier? They all seem roughly even to me. Actually I do see Dragoon is slightly dipping and I can understand that with how garbage the timings are for 2 and 3 minute raid buffs are this tier, and DRG has both. cries in ranged dps

The raid fight design for this entire expansion has completely fucked over DRG in pretty much every way, and now that MNK got their job change, DRG is the only melee that loses resources for long cutscenes/downtime. This tier has been really bad for positionals too, which is also something that hurts DRG dps more than the other jobs, relatively. True north is basically an on-cooldown in some spots. All of this, plus the fact that DRG has the lowest dps with full uptime is why I think DRG needs buffs.

Some of these issues can be accounted for with better boss design, but there will always be jobs that suffer depending on timings of mechanics. However, when a boss creates a deathzone where if a job literally can't use their OGCDs (E6S in particular comes to mind), then there's an actual issue.

I think they might also be the most sensitive melee to OGCD drifting, but I don't have much experience with MNK.

It was originally an optional dungeon when you are first in its level range but the post-ARR patches made it required for the story (one of the 2.1-2.3 patches, dunno which off hand).

He's saying they might have removed that when they redid the pacing of ARR though. Which I also don't know, but is the only explanation for how you could have skipped it so might be true.
