at this point we can only hope for minimal fuckups. i am hopeful this will be good, i like how it looks so far but i'm sure there will be a bunch of questionable QoL choices that will stop it from being great. i'm also expecting that despite the style it will still run like dogshit

Good thing Gamefreak isn't making it then!

Until I see any acknowledgement of Platinum upgrades, like even just the bigger Sinnoh Dex, I'm not going to get too excited. And as it's not made by Game Freak, I'm not expecting any cool new features to be added like FR/LG, HG/SS, and OR/AS. They really tried to hammer it in that this is a totally faithful recreation of Diamond/Pearl. I guess we'll see. At least it (probably) won't have Dynamax forced into it?

Not big on Sinnoh but the music was great so hopefully there's good remixes.

Remakes are the only way for me to get excited about Pokemon anymore, since I have no faith in any of their "new" ideas.

I'd go so far as to say to de-make Gen VI-VIII in B/W engine too, just to see how much fun extra content they could've fit into them if they didn't have to put so much effort into learning 3D graphics and whatnot. I really feel like the switch to 3D/HD is why new games don't have fun side activities like Pokeathlon or PWT anymore. Just too much work to animate for new activities or remodel all the old trainers and stuff.

I'm not saying it's bad, I love it, too.

I'm just saying to TRE's point, you can do some simple Google searches and find "Why is Gen 5 so hated?" stuff from as late as like two years ago. Maybe it was a vocal minority, but it definitely had a stigma around it for a long while that kinda suddenly vanished recently.

That said, I think it kinda coincides with whatever the latest "hate" target represents.

People hated on Gen 5 for awhile with some of the more vocal complaints being things like not enough older Pokemon and newer Pokemon designs being either "trash" or "copies of existing Pokemon."

When Let's Go came out, people started hating on HGSS and the remakes in general, which probably had to do with Let's Go itself being a remake when they wanted a new gen.

Now with Sword and Shield being the latest target, there's also a rise in hate of XY, which if following the logic, may be because XY was the move to 3D, which people now point to as a problem with the series.

The hate definitely shifted from Black/White to HGSS/FRLG (people may have always hated ORAS, I can't remember), and now appears to be shifting to XY.

Granted the timeline may not match up with the game releases, that's just a guesstimate of when it became noticeable.

Maybe the HGSS hate didn't last long, but I definitely saw a bunch of sudden "HGSS sucks" responses to people praising it that didn't previously happen. Complaints tended to range from "lazy" to "bad design/terrible level scaling/etc." and then just "G/S always sucked" comments in general.

Granted, I also browse Pokemon boards on here more than is probably healthy.

I was disappointed by HG/SS, but yeah that's never been the popular opinion. Almost everyone still loves it. A lot of comments I've been seeing since BD/SP are how we're never getting a HG/SS-quality remake ever again.

Based on quick Google searching, the HG/SS hate started in early 2017. I'd say it actually may have predominantly been a GameFAQs thing, but there are random articles like:

Ive never seen HGSS hate in any meaningful amount.

XY was divisive IIRC, some people hated it for the trubbishes and the klinks and the vanills, others had it best since RB or GS.
