i've heard that the intro of the '90 captain america is actually pretty good and follows the '40s comic very closely, which is interesting. after that it becomes a z-tier movie but yeah.

seems like the entire movie is on youtube, if people are curious about it!

90s Cap is a mix of bad and campy goodness but I feel like you'd hate it. Personally there are aspects of it I prefer to The First Avenger but yeah it's not very good. I was mostly just curious whether super Cap fans would appreciate it more or less than the average person

I'm honestly a little surprised that so many people have Cap 1 highish! Maybe it's because I personally have no personal attachment to the Steve Rogers character and his portrayal - I mean, I do like what this movie did with him a lot, but that goes for most of the characters in the MCU. Some of the period stuff is cute. The third act of this movie is the worst of any of the movies imo though, including Thor 2.

The third act is made good by the Steve/Peggy scene and one of the best last lines of any film.

One of the films that people are mentioning is something that I ranked top 5 (I nearly ranked it #1) so I feel like I have an inside track on guessing what's next, so I won't. I'd be pretty sad if it went out next though!

I was expecting two of the games left that have someone's last place rankings to be Guardians vol 2 and Iron Man 3, but not Cap 1. >_>

Going into this project, I've been expecting Guardians vol 2 to drop somewhere around 13-15th place due to people having a broad split of opinions on. Civil War is another movie I could see people being divided over (lol) but still get a fair number of top 5/top 10 rankings... I dunno about it dropping before something like Iron Man 3 or Doctor Strange. Iron Man 3/Doctor Strange seem like movies that should drop about now, though I don't really see them as movies someone would put in their top 5 either.

loving the respect for Caps character. he might actually be my favorite MCU character. That said, Cap 1 feels appropriate to drop now

I havent seen Capt 1 in ages, but I dont recall caring much about it. Of the main Avengers Iron Man easily had the best first film imo.

If Civil War isn't top 10 at least I'd be shocked tbh. Surely no way it goes out this early.

I dunno, some people really seem to dislike Civil War. I could see it getting a bunch of really polarized rankings that end up dropping it right around here.

I think people are really overthinking it and the next three will be some order of Iron Man 3, Ant-Man, and Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 2. Its possible that Doctor Strange turns up, though I think that is likely to be after those.

If Doctor Strange is your median quality of entry youre a damn good franchise!

I will never get over Chris Evans goofy lookin fuckin bobblehead in the first third of the movie.

It's so much worse on rewatches too. I don't think Chris Evans was really a household name at the time, even though he'd had some big roles prior. But now, it feels very weird.

Cap 1 is right in that portion of the list (for me, at least) where the movies start to actually get good, but it's still a bit slow and forgettable. Not enough to be bad like the films I've ranked lower...but enough.

I remember being so disappointed with Iron Man 3. It's one of the few MCU older movies I haven't seen a 2nd time along with both Thors, which I also thought were not good.

Going back to Cap a little, I think Chris Evans performance as Steve Rogers / Captain America is phenomenal and just as much of a pillar of the MCU as RDJ's Tony Stark. I feel like we always know exactly what Cap is thinking and what he's going to do, but not because he's "just a goodie two shoes boy scout", but because of the performance and incredibly consistent writing and development we've seen from him in every appearance.

Cap 1 deserves a lot of credit for stewing on that character for the first half of the movie. Cap has emotional development throughout the MCU based on how he sees the world and how he sees himself, but the foundations of everything he is was set up in that movie and built upon from there. For being so early in the MCU, it's impressive they were able to nail that down so easily to set the tone going forward, when so many other movies fumble that kind of thing. Most studios would have ended up with a cheesy idealized version of what Cap is, similar to the million parody characters we see all over media, and I don't think that's what the MCU gave us.

I thought the film was a well-done exploration of black-and-white morality with good performances, although I admit to enjoying Hugo Weaving as Schmidt.

Good to see I'm not the only one who feels like Shazam is the notable outlier; people point to Wonder Woman but even that feels like Phase 1 Marvel to me.
