Considering that the CCG has run like 20 years now, I find the claim that it failed a little ludicrous. I played up until some time into the Neo sets (which, looking at the timeline, I guess wasn't super-long) and I found it reasonably fun. I know they changed a lot of shit afterward, but still.

In this case, it might just be nostalgia. A ton of people played the CCG at some point and a lot of people love or loved Pokemon.

Now if we had a new TCG or board game resurgence post-COVID. That would be pretty cool. It's not going to happen.

If enough people get into that shit in the midst of COVID, it might keep things going afterward. However, something like a CCG feels like it'd be more hurt by COVID than helped because the gathering component isn't there.

The game is more or less played the same way as it has been since the 90s, the big difference is that there is a rotating metagame, and depending on the sets in the meta, there are cards that can reward two prizes when knocked out. It's not something like YGO which has a bunch of different metagame and rule changes over the rules that have fundamentally changed the game (especially the game's pacing).

I don't think they're gathering to play. I think it's an artificial buyers market. YGO on the other hand has had a pretty big online presence pre-COVID, probably due to how expensive the cards are and how that metagame changes over time.

So Haachama hit 1M and we did get a bit of a finale to the point I think I know what happened in her lore.

Haachama (probably with a different name, probably another color like aoi since we see some blue hearts some times and then haato) and akai haato were sisters with akai being the relatively shy introverted one and haachama being an outgoing tomboy as shown by her stepping on a stuffed bear and holding a spider in the kids picture.

When they were kids, one of them killed the other one by accident. It's hard to know which one is actually the one still alive. We see in the tv on her thank you stream akai say something like she would give anything if she could go back to that moment but whats done can never be changed while showing one of them as a little kid holding the other one in their lap.

As adults we see that whichever one is still alive is taking meds that makes "haachama" sleep, presumably anti-psychotics. When haachama started appearing on streams, she was off these meds. The akai haato personality doesn't seem to have any memory of haachama or know theres anything else to worry about, but haachama does know that she killed akai haato. This recent arc with the cutting off the heads and reattaching them is symbolic of akai haato personality learning about everything thats going on and choosing to keep taking the meds to stay as akai haato. We can see in the earlier videos of this arc that haato doesn't know who haachama is but after the head reattaching and outfit change, she does.

This still leaves us not knowing which one is the real one. Is akai haato a fake personality created out of guilt to live her dead sister's dream of becoming an idol or is haachama the fake personality truly gone mad and playing into the role of her dead sister? I believe it's intentionally ambiguous.

It's a vtuber that's been running with a psychological horror theme lately.

Like, what actually happened was they debuted as a vtuber named akai haato which is a tsundere school girl character. Over the months though, she got more comfortable and basically abandoned that tsundere persona to just be herself which is a kind of a memelord (she had a stream where she reviewed 18+ fan art of her character, and had her "haachama cooking" streams that are super cursed cooking streams). Sometime around when she started acting more like herself she adopted the haachama nickname which was short for haato-sama.

She made quite a lot of cursed shitposts and acts pretty crazy. Sometimes people would be like "what happened to akai haato?" when she would do some of more cursed meme things and at some point she said she killed her.

Upon approaching 1M subs on youtube though, she created a whole storyline around the idea of haachama killing off or taking over akai haato and the result was what I wrote up there. She kept up the storyline during all of her streams lately which led to some pretty unnerving moments like when other vtubers would call her haachama when she was being akai haato again.

In the various creepy videos and with moments from the streams you can piece together a storyline of what happened. It's really cool all things considered. It's like an interactive psychological horror storyline.

Still watching Redo of Healer, trying to gradually add other shows to my gallery, but it is slow going.

Said I was not going to get back into Legend of Legacy, but I have already started a New Game + as Eloise. Much, much easier this time through, thanks to money carrying over and certain gear being made available from the get-go.

She definitely wasn't planned to be like this from the start.

You have to remember the fact that she's an OG Gen 1 Vtuber, as such, the standards for "idols" back then were pretty strictly defined.

Akai Haato was supposed to be a classic tsundere type character, but as time went on she revealed more and more of her real life personality which gave birth to Haachama. I think she herself said before that Haachama is closer to what she is in real life than Haato.

Of course now her whole horror theme is just her leaning into the memes of "Haato is dead" and running with it.

Yeah, jobless reincarnation was good again this week. Maybe a little less amazing than last episode but it was nice to slow down the pace and world build a bit more. I wonder if he will eventually get good at swordfighting. The instant casting he has would pair wonderfully with swordsmanship.

I finished Nozaki-kun today. I don't think it was good enough to pick the manga up for (I'm still trying to pressure myself into reading Hitoribocchi), but I had a few good laughs. Also the ending was really comfy and feel like I heard it somewhere before.

ending was rushed as hell, as these things usually are

i don't even know where the end bad guy came from, everyone just started talking about him as if he'd been mentioned before and he absolutely was not

also, since it was rushed, there was a few plots that just...did not get resolved, and characters that were important that weren't even in the epilogue for some reason

like straight up there was this dude that they met, who stopped something that even the main guy couldn't do, and then he said he'd see them again and vanished, then at the end of that chapter they show him meeting with some mystery people and told them what happened, and that he's going to go see the main guy in the human world, like this was some ominous thing

and that just, never happened. he never appeared again. he wasn't ever brought up again.

It's pretty interesting that they specifically do not mention hololive EN gen 2. And list the pre requisites as

That "gender irrelevant" part is screaming Holostars EN to me. This would be pretty big if that were the case and it would boost the undeservedly low numbers of the other Holostars by bringing in new audiences.

Calli said just like EN1 was branded as holomyth, EN2 will have some sort of theme name instead of being called Gen 2 although I'm sure everyone will still call them Gen 2.

I also thought the gender irrelevant was interesting. Holostars EN would be cool. Most of the holostars are better at english than hololive jp. Astel and Aruran seem especially good from what I've watched. Aruran did an english only stream recently and I was pretty impressed. I've been watching a decent amount of them both lately. It's criminal how few subs they have considering how long they've been at it and how good they are.

Astel is nuts though. He regularly does 12 hour+ streams. He's doing an endurance stream right now even. I saw one where he was playing apex and singing (both of which he is god like at) for the first 2 hours. I went to bed, got up, and he was still playing Apex on the same stream.

Too many talented vtubers man. At this point I'm following like 100. Been pretty cool watching some of them grow. Yuuka Bear I've been watching a lot lately and she seems to be hitting some explosive growth. She was at 9k like 5 days ago and is now at 13k. When I started watching she had like 30-50 viewers average and the last few days it's over 100 most of the time.

Then I like all the hololive girls which is like 40 people, then I like several nijisanji people (especially kanae, my favorite male vtuber so far), and all of vshojo. Then artemis and kana and veibae and anya (not the hololive ID one).

I hate that I've gotten chronically ill but a silver lining is definitely getting into vtubers. Pretty sure I never would have paid attention to any besides nyanners that I already watched otherwise.

Unrelated to vtubers but jobless reincarnation is too good. It's kinda killing my drive to watch other anime. I just want more of it.

I posted this elsewhere, but the main reason I don't watch them is because they don't stream content I'm interested in. It seems like whenever I see Astel specifically, he is playing Apex. I know that Aruran has way more variety, so that's on me for not watching him. Like right now Astel is playing Apex and Aruran is playing Nier: Automata. Don't really care for either of those games, and they're games that other holos have played into the ground.

Yeah Astel is like 75% Apex so I get not watching him if you aren't into it but like, ninjisanji has kanae with 550k ish subs and kuzuha with 650k ish and they both fiend Apex as well and have been doing it for roughly as long. I think the real issue is just that cover doesn't promote them as well or arrange any colabs with hololive whereas nijisanji is just completely mixed between the guys and girls.

The latest colabs with hololive ID has been helping holostars though. They seem to be hitting their stride lately.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Lucky Star. Probably more of a product of when it came out (it would have enjoyed it if I watched it back then like I watched Haruhi), but I'm not sure if it translates well into modern anime tastes. Then again, I didn't really like Clannad either, which apparently means there's something wrong with me. As for 4-koma, Hitoribocchi is a 4-koma, but I'm under the impression that 4-koma are supposed to be light hearted / fun manga instead of more serious ones, and Lucky Star wasn't supposed to be serious, and it was notable for being a pre-cgdct cgdct (I'd argue that it was a progenitor, but cgdct didn't really become a thing until K-ON).

The "CGDCT" genre started at Azumanga Daioh, but one can make a case for K-On! being one of the best-known examples.

And you are not alone: I am not a big fan of the Clannad anime. Having the VN takes the wind out of the anime.

I've watched 1 episode of lucky star and like 4-5 of K-On. Didn't really love either one. I feel like I need a theme other than japanese highschool to enjoy CGDCT. Although I loved yuru yuri and thats basically the same thing +mild yuri themes.
