Finally made the update since turbotax stopped supporting windows 7, plus my computer needed upgrading in the process.
I personally would have stuck with windows xp 64-bit if I could. Windows 7 grew on me, but I still missed the functionality of xp.

So, to my question. What is improved with windows 10? My boot time is pretty good, but that's kind of expected when the computer is wiped off everything basically.
I noticed with cell phones that updates seem to make me struggle to find "advanced" settings and windows 10 seems to be doing the same thing, along with a really fat start menu and a really small "desktop" button in the corner.

I guess I just wanna be hyped but I'm not feeling it. It feels like bloat ware that maybe basic computer users might enjoy. The security settings seem to be more about windows telling you to use Microsoft products rather than actual settings.

TL,dnr; what's even better with this windows?

No one likes Windows 10. It was basically made to integrate mobile and PC architecture to make things easy for Microsoft, but without any real meaningful additions or benefits for the actual users.

That's only true if "all of time" started in 2012 when Windows 8 came out.

Or vista. Maybe even windows me.
Seems like every third windows or so, it tries something different and it needs optimizing, then they do that for the next release of windows

Justified, though, considering every iteration since XP basically has been worse than the last.

Speaking as someone old enough to remember, when new OS releases actually improved on the previous iteration, people tended to be much more positive about them.

Unfortunately, that hasn't happened for decades. Which is an entirely different problem.

Try PopOS. I really liked it when I used it. It runs most Windows programs. Just install it on a separate hard drive.

There are no good code development tools for Linux, which is a deal breaker for me. I don't want to hear any command line master race people here either.

it's being actively updated

it's more stable, secure, and faster; it just feels lighter in general, especially compared to 7 (and I loved 7)

it allows multiple users to be logged in simultaneously (previously a feature of windows server only; not sure exactly when introduced to workstation windows though, might have already been a feature since some other version)

as much as I don't like the push to metro, I do find the minimal interface more appealing in many cases

searching from the start menu (after turning off cortana and internet searching as much as possible) is very fast and quick way to launch things

something more specific, I recently learned that users can install fonts to their profile, rather than having to install them to the system. that's pretty great since fonts have always been such a low level part of the o/s but at the same time are something that should be a lot more flexible since they're so important.

I think the main changes were allowing you to boot right to the desktop rather than the start screen and the ability to have a start button on the taskbar on the desktop.

10 is fine honestly. Its miles above 8 and I'd say just as good if not better than 7. People only hate on it because its newer really.

Literally nothing. It forced itself on everyone and their systems, with some managing to get away for a time. It throws space-hogging features at us every so often we never use on our computers, but some may use on our phones where it makes more sense to have such features on the go. It continues to try forcing itself on everyone via updates you cannot review and select, causing an all-or-nothing situation you're only able to opt out of if you stop Windows Updates in the Services thing and delete the necessary upgrade files/folder. Windows 10 is an aberration on a good day.

Windows 10 used to be better as it was lighter/faster, but they just kept tacking on bloat and spyware so now it's worse.

@Kanatteru

It's come a long way, you can straight up run almost all Windows programs. This is PopOS, which is a branch of Linux designed to actually be used by normal people, I wouldn't recommend any other version.

It's still got a long way to go, there were some really wonky quality of life things that were missing. I feel like the Linux devs just don't understand some basic user interface concepts. For one, shortcuts were broken, and that's "normal". (Lol what inferior plebs use shortcuts, just memorize all 300 console commands and you can do anything)

The upside is that you can tinker with anything. If there's a bug in your OS, you would either eventually fix it, or eventually break your entire OS. Unlike Windows, where you just wait for it to "have a better day for no reason"

Have you disabled it in the group policy editor? That's what I did and I haven't had any forced updates. You should google that.
