I am starting to think it's Mother 3, but that's probably because I just watched a 3 hour 'analysis' video on it >_>. I played it last summer, and it really was amazing. I was glad that some of the bosses challenged me in that 'oldschool' RPG way, but it didn't happen often enough to be some insane roadblock. I had beaten Earthbound on Wii U a bit before that. There really aren't any games that compare in terms of soundtrack variety and composition. For me.
Some other favourites are: Yoshi's Island The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Metroid: Zero Mission Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition Second Sight (Gamecube) Celeste Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow Donkey Kong Country II: Diddy's Kong Quest Super Mario Bros 3 Punch-Out!!! Honorable mentions: Splatoon 2 (so fun) Rocket League (still so fun, and blew my mind when it came out) Sonic Mania I play a lot of Deep Rock Galactic and Halo: Master Chief Collection (mostly 1+2) with friends too, but they moreso hold that fun with friends vibe, and aren't necessarily mindblowing to me. Honestly, my favorite game of all time at this point is probably Pokemon Blue. It's impact on my life was so significant, and it's one of the few games that I've actually read the source code in depth. Has one of the coolest development histories as well.

Maybe BotW but it's still recent enough that it hasn't had the same amount of time to simmer.
OoT and SMB3 were always my childhood faves. Minecraft, Smash, Halo and Rocket League under the category of games I could put tons of hours into but they don't really have that "what an experience" factor to them. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I'm terrible at favorites, but my favorite of the moment is Hades. I don't get a ton of time to game, but it's easy to finish a few areas in Hades or try and get through a run if I have a half hour.

I find it really hard to say. There's never been a game that I go back to and play repeatedly. Different parts of my life have been dominated by different games.

And get into technicalities about how mods shouldn't count with me all you want...I count them. If I could mod another game like I can mod skyrim, I'd go with that game instead. I really don't know. Maybe MH3U? That or halo 2. It's like, every game I'd consider putting as my favorite has at least one big thing wrong with it that makes me feel like "theres no way this can be my favorite".
