As someone who researched the various cryptocurrencies with vague passing interest to invest I felt dogecoin had the most value as something useful to society aside from Ethereum or Ripple

The rest have no value. Including Bitcoin.

I dunno, maybe forever?

After today and the similar, but smaller surge a couple weeks ago... Im convinced that dogecoin will continue to have these days where it becomes a meme for a day and hits some new high.

Eventually this thing will hit 20 cents so you could double your money buying in now, but I have no idea how long it will be until that day actually comes. Could be this week, could be this year. Could be much longer.

Looks like I might miss out on some timing - my credit card company shut down my card when I tried to make some transactions, probably because I've trying to make transactions outside of what I normally do. They've done this before twice, once when I got gas out of state, and another when I donated to Wikipedia (yup), but they also caught it immediately when my card got stolen and fraudulent charges got racked up so I can't complain.

So as I see it Doge is the only crypto viable as an actual currency in the real world. Not that it'll happen but you know. It follows real world currency dynamics and not some antiquated gold standard wannabe stuff.

Ethereum you're actually buying solving space which seems potentially useful in and of itself.

Eth is more like an actual gold standard, though probably it'd be a more practical precious metal like Palladium
Bitcoin and most derivatives wish they were a gold standard but are more like if you backed your currency with Thulium. Like it's backed by a finite resource and wont suffer from inflation, great! But it's just an artificial backing that only has significant meaning if people give it that.
Doge is like actual currency and if were widely adopted would be practical. It suffers from inflation by design but that's okay. Maybe needs some refinement in the specifics to control the rate of inflation in a way where mining only when it is worthwhile earns doges but the basic idea is good.

Now perhaps I'm wrong. I'd definitely be interested to know how I'm wrong. I'm sure someone who spent more than a day reading up on all of the currencies can inform me.

Where do you get this lol. Doge is a variant of LTC and both are variants of BTC. They only differ slightly in their rules. Same with BCH and BSV and countless other variants. I actually didn't know Doge was inflationary until now. That's a big difference from BTC, and it makes it strictly worse.

Beyond that, you should figure out why BTC is still dominant when there are all these superior altcoins. It's the same reason why ETH is still around when we have LINK and thousands of other computation coins.

You don't even know the very basic principle of how DOGE works-- like that's literally the core of what separates it from other coins the baked in inflation and the fact that you'll always be able to mine it, and are lecturing me about not doing my homework on crypto.

Are you just blindly following bitcoin as the best because "rar independent currency people power" and saying the first established name is the best at it by default? If not tell me why it's dominant instead of asking me to look into it-- I already have looked into it. I did not find any reason BTC is the best aside from being the first that got traction (which gives it a lot of advantages). Which is not to say it's inherently worse than any of them (aside from Eth and Ripple (and DOGE!!)) and there's nothing wrong with being the first, but it also means your currency can basically become worthless if a better alternative arises and gets any sort of traction.

So a currency needs three things to be useful

  • needs to be able to be widely accepted as payment
  • spending needs to be trackable
  • value of the currency needs to be relatively constant over time
BTC has a good algorithm verify transactions and such which makes it effective at the second point, and it's gaining traction with the first point, but the catch is a currency needs to inspire confidence that what you have is going to have a relatively constant value and bitcoin utterly fails at that, and will continue to fail at that because of the capped supply (I'm still not sure how we verify transactions if all bitcoins are mined away what is the solution to that issue) and increased demand. You actually get that with DOGE at some level due to the inflationary nature of it and the main problem it has is not being acceptable as payment in many places. DOGE is not perfect because you can basically flood the market with dogecoins if everyone is mining so you need to have some sort of cleanup algorithm to reduce the amount of DOGE in circulation (much like banks do when they dispose of trashed money) and I don't know exactly how to solve that issue without reducing the number of dogecoins in play which means someone loses currency, but it's closer to the right answer of what is usable as an independent currency that works like a currency than BTC is. I'd legit be interested in a DOGE spinoff that is trying to refine the idea to something more than a joke.

But like with BTC, why on earth would I accept a $40 bitcoin payment for gas when that same quantity of bitcoin can be worth $20 next week. The idea of it as an actual widely accepted currency is completely absurd, which makes it pointless. You've got a bunch of rigs doing work, wasting energy, to verify the legitimacy of exchanged coins which is nice but these coins are inherently super volatile and relatively worthless as a currency for that reason. You effectively get the "double spend" problem that BTC supposedly solves baked into the value of the coin because the value varies so wildly.

Then why hasn't it. That's what I'm telling you to answer since you're missing it. You're talking like Bitcoin isn't the most attacked and competed and better-alternative'd thing in the history of money. (Also def look up how confirmations work after all coins are mined, it's really simple and clever... pretty sure it's in the original paper and wikipedia.)

Also that list of "three things" that conveniently excludes Bitcoin is straight from pro-fiat arguments. So my other question to you is then, why care bout Doge when USD does everything you described AND is widely adopted?
