They got $600 and tried to raise it to $2000. It wasnt going to be $2600. It was going to be $2000 instead of $600. $600 already went out so this plan would just continue on trying to get what was originally wanted. A total of $2000.

The US has spent about $3 trillion in stimulus packages (>$2 trillion for CARES Act, $900 billion for the most recent stimilus) so far.

About 127.5 million people received stimulus checks.

$3 trillion / 127.5 million people ~~ $23,500 per person.

That being said, most people will see this as him bailing on a promise and he should really do $2000 just for the optics

Setting aside the low bar of complexity that 1400+600=2000 should be, no, the elected officials may be stupid but that's not the issue. They have different priorities, constraints and interest groups they need to satisfy to stay elected officials.

The extra money is being used for monthly child allowances, for example. I think that it would be cool if nobody cared about the deficit when it came to spending, especially during a pandemic, but people do (probably because the stupid electorate cares enough to punish them)

The plain reading of this tweet to me is that the checks should have been $1400 bigger, not that we should get another $2000

I agree with you that he's been dishonest or at least unclear about it in other contexts but this doesn't seem like one of them to me.

But I get it if you don't pay attention to politics or policy much. For people who do, the news already asked and answered this back when the Democrats tried to seize upon Trump's veto to get bigger checks by adding in $1400 (not $2000)

I'm kind of doubting that but we'll see. I always figured 3 was going to be the magic number.

I think the little wussy people who have been screaming and doubting the stimulus checks were way off.

For example the first 1200 there was always a wussy saying "Hate to tell ya, but there isn't going to be a stimulus at all." and we got it.

The next one I knew would happen, but I also knew it would poke major ass. The 600 happened and yes its a pussy amount but that was also predictable because of Mcconnel.

Now people are saying this one won't happen. This is literally the dumbest one to deny if you know anything about what's happening right now. It'll happen.

As for a FOURTH, I'm not going to hold my breath. I think it's possible depending on how the virus plays out, but absolutely more unlikely than this coming 3rd one.
