It's very pretty looking. I was surprised that Meganium was the epic thing at the end lol.

Perhaps I should play the first one, can you still buy things on Wii U?

website says "Over 200 Pokemon" so I would assume that means less than 300

certainly better than 63!

You can indeed. And if youre just looking to get a picture of each Pokmon it wont take you very long to run through, though if you decide to go for high scores on all the courses itll last a lot longer.

Yeah, I looked up the length when they announced this and IIRC it was only a few hours, so it could easily just be an evening one day. Going for high scores depends on you enjoyable it is.

Biggest thing im hoping for, other than expanded length, is the ability to save more than one photo of each Pokemon. It sucked for example being limited to keeping just one photo of Pikachu when he appeared on almost every stage and could do special things on most of them.

Bugsnax was good but I highly doubt it tops a solid Pokemon Snap purely based on nostalgia and recognizable characters, at least for me.

Title's whatever, it's not good but I also don't care about game titles enough for it to matter.

I like Bugsnax but it has very little in common with Snap.
Also the tree names for Pokemon Professors is only in the mainline games. I think Pokemon GO is the only spinoff game to have a unique professor named after a tree

I don't think Pokemon Snap works without the rails, considering in-universe anyone walking on foot would have Pokemon to use in case they're attacked.

I shouldn't be so surprised to see a Pokemon game that actually looks like it cares about Pokemon, but here we are. It looks great! If the amount of content is at all comparable to the original I'd happily go in on it.

Yeah, this is definitely something that really only works on-rails IMO and I'm perfectly fine with it.

As for content, I'm not going to kid myself and think that this is going to include all 800-whatever Pokemon and be like 15-20 hours long. I'm gonna guess like 6-8 hours for an initial playthrough with somewhere around 200 Pokemon.

There are advantages to being on-rails, they can set up specific events and interactions better, but yeah it's not like it would inherently not work in an open environment. And I expect this to be pretty short like the first game, even with the full price tag.

Meganium of all Pokemon being the biggest thing on the cover is absolutely hilarious to me

On rails is 10000000% fine to me, I loved the original for a reason (well, many reasons) and the more they embody the spirit of the original the better. It certainly could possibly work in open field but also could mess with it as well. For a game like this I'm fine if they make it a bit safer, just expanding and trying to improve on the original. More than 200 but less than 300 is fine, would have liked a BIT more like 400-ish maybe but if it's well crafted that's fine.

I don't know if I'll really want to get it. I'll have to wait for reviews/WoM first I think. I'll probably need a good sale, which won't be for a long time.

Wonder if there will be DLC. Adding new courses over time just seems like the most obvious thing they should do with it.

The game looks incredible so far just from the 2 trailer's we've seen, and that's not even including the "first game was good so we automatically assume the sequel will be better unless proven otherwise" hype train. It's really disheartening seeing people say "well it looks good but it's a modern Pokemon game so it must be tricking us". Can't people actually be excited for games for a change?

The first game was small in content but due to its structure was a very good high score game (some people still play it competitively to this day). With more content the replayability scales up massively. Even if there are """only""" 200 Pokemon in the game, that's enough to be essentially endless score chasing considering how long a mere 63 were able to last people.

If the game wasn't on-rails, you'd end up with each Pokemon just having like 1-2 canned animations that they repeat over and over again while you stare at them for an hour, so it wouldn't really be any better.

Yeah but there's also the chance that more Pokemon means less effort put on each one having interesting and diverse interactions, which would then hurt replayability. It's a valid concern, but something reviews should be able to clear up. But like you said, there's no point in dwelling on the negative possibilities when there's nothing to suggest it'll be bad or lifeless.

https://serebii.net/newpokemonsnap/45.jpg (the link from pokemon.com is too long to post...)

Speculating here, but it looks like the Pokedex has some sort of catalogue of different behaviors that you may possibly have to capture yourself.

And don't forget about the Album from the first game where you could save any photos that weren't part of your score submissions; I'm sure that that feature will return in a probably bigger form.

Oh yeah, I did see one of the tweets mentioning that as you fill up the Pokedex, you'll start seeing new things when you revisit old levels. But yeah that screenshot is pretty promising.

Another thing to note is that the scoring system has more categories than the first game: https://serebii.net/newpokemonsnap/46.jpg

This should in theory lead to fewer maxed scores and thus stronger competition. The first game had 63 Pokemon but probably a dozen of them had an easy "perfect picture" so they weren't part of the discussion once you started high score hunting. This is the type of detail that I look for and why it's all good news to me so far.

I think it's fair for people to be a bit skeptical of this given what Nintendo's been putting out recently, and I'm not just taking about Pokemon here. They don't really deserve the same blind faith in their games that they used to earn.

That said this does look great, and it's nice to see this series coming back. But I'm not willing to drop full price for it on day one.

Also Meganium's the best and I'll fight you on this

If that post was in response to my first post (in calling out other people's skepticism), I don't think it's fair to call it "blind faith". I posted concrete examples from currently-revealed information to point to specific reasons why I'm looking forward to the game. I don't think anyone in this topic said that they're blindly supporting it just because it's Nintendo/Pokemon.
