No I won't. I'm always against this every time they do it but unfortunately I'm not a politician and can't really do anything more than complain about it. I just have to bite the pillow like everyone else.

Yep. They're just trying to take advantage of the epidemic to try and get their pet projects funded. They hope tossing a pittance at us will get us to ignore the true purpose and not care where the majority of our money is going.

Yep. The idea that it's a stimulus is really just propaganda. And I think it's one issue that republicans, democrats, and independents can all mostly agree on. Unfortunately, they're mostly all going to blame one side and ignore their own side's misplaced priorities. But hey, that's politics I guess

Wow, Trump actually came through and is saving us from this monstrosity?
Eh...there was like a 4 day period he was pushing for gun control measures, too. I'll wait and see, he usually backtracks quickly when he randomly says something wise.

Reef fish management and dealing w/ invasive Asian carp sound reasonable, though.
It's a spending bill, not just COVID, after all. The majority of shit he pointed out is dumb though, and the streaming law (which he didn't mention) has NOTHING to do w/ the general federal budget, either.
Whatever, I'll take "the right action for the wrong reasons".

And lol, he's still pushing for that 2nd term that'll never come!

This whole Covid stimulus shitfest has basically been

"I can throw as much corporate garbage in our much-needed stimulus bill and if anyone stops us we can blame them and their political party lol"

It was this way with the first bill too. And surprisingly no one has blamed any particular politician for the most part... we all just fucking hate almost every member of the senate.

Pelosi and Mitch are hopefully the most hated people in America. I've never seen so much talk on Twitter about guillotines.

Seriously, the $2000 thing is a hill worth dying on, so to speak. Trump literally loses nothing while looking a little better on his way out of office. It's a lot easier to sow some goodwill with a handout over anything else, and if the last thing his tenure is remembered for was fighting to give everyone more money, plus him being gone, he won't seem quite as bad to people and will have a bit of nostalgia going into 2024, if he runs. It's a 3D chess move and it's only fucking over the establishment, who can then demonize again next election for not wanting to do it.

Exactly. You don't have to like someone to agree with them. That's partisan bullshit and it's destroying the world. Good ideas need support, bad ideas need to be dropped into a volcano.

Right. Seven months they've been arguing over this bill and all that time Trump could have been siding with the democrats saying we needed larger checks and pushing McConnell to accept it, but instead he waits until they finalize the bill to say something. Now it's going to take even longer.

Hey. Let's be fair here. Trump's not only been on the campaign trail (which takes a lot of time and focus) but part of the whole reason we HAVE things like the senate is so that the president CAN'T do exactly that and/or just write the whole bill himself.

Trump could have publicly expressed his support for a $2000 check right off the bat and all it would have taken was ten seconds of twitter activity. If McConnell had known Trump wouldn't sign the bill otherwise he probably wouldn't have fought so hard for a $600 check for so long.

I don't understand the $600/$1200/$2000 whatever one-time payment. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to burn the check if I recieve it, but it's going right into my savings for when I inevitably have to pay it back. I don't need the money, I've been working throughout the pandemic. I'm sure there's plenty of employed people who would spend that money, but don't necessarily need to. They have income.

It would make more sense to give an increase/extension to the unemployed. That's money that is almost guaranteed to get pumped back into the economy. This one-time payment thing is complete PR bullshit.

And PPP for small business is crucial. With better oversight so they don't give millions to Joel Osteen's mega church and the fucking Lakers

You aren't going to have to pay it back and it's not taxable.

As far as why give money to people who still have jobs, I think the reasoning is that if you only give money to the unemployed/ extend unemployment benefits, you're essentially just indirectly paying the renters and mortgage companies of the world. That doesn't stimulate the economy, it only keeps people from being evicted. Whereas people who are still employed but may be more fiscally stingy right now out of caution can take that extra money and immediately spend it at local businesses, which does help keep the economy rolling and prevent more job loss. I have also remained fully employed and paid through this entire pandemic and I plan to immediately spend the entire stimulus check on various products and takeout from my favorite local places. I want them to survive.

I agree with unemployment. But the problem is that many people that arent unemployed still had hours cut. And they still need money, as well... Especially if any of them were already struggling...

The easiest way for Trump to force his $2000 agenda is to tweet out "anyone in the house or senate that opposes $2000 checks is the enemy of the people and you should not vote for them next time. I will share a list of who they are if they decide to do the wrong thing." That goes perfectly with his mob boss managerial attitude, and there's no way those spineless nerds are gonna stand up to him. They'll bend the knee like they always do. And let's be honest, while the MAGA folks may not always be the most rational or bright lot, they are not pussies. Rallying them against the GOP senators would actually be a logical way for Trump to start the ball rolling for his own party... which would basically kill the GOP and create a "split the vote" situation, which would probably eventually cause a similar rift in with Dems down the road. Four is better than two.
