Trump could have publicly expressed his support for a $2000 check right off the bat and all it would have taken was ten seconds of twitter activity. If McConnell had known Trump wouldn't sign the bill otherwise he probably wouldn't have fought so hard for a $600 check for so long.

I don't understand the $600/$1200/$2000 whatever one-time payment. Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to burn the check if I recieve it, but it's going right into my savings for when I inevitably have to pay it back. I don't need the money, I've been working throughout the pandemic. I'm sure there's plenty of employed people who would spend that money, but don't necessarily need to. They have income.

It would make more sense to give an increase/extension to the unemployed. That's money that is almost guaranteed to get pumped back into the economy. This one-time payment thing is complete PR bullshit.

And PPP for small business is crucial. With better oversight so they don't give millions to Joel Osteen's mega church and the fucking Lakers

Bills should have a clearly defined purpose, and/or institute a line item veto.

The easiest way for Trump to force his $2000 agenda is to tweet out "anyone in the house or senate that opposes $2000 checks is the enemy of the people and you should not vote for them next time. I will share a list of who they are if they decide to do the wrong thing." That goes perfectly with his mob boss managerial attitude, and there's no way those spineless nerds are gonna stand up to him. They'll bend the knee like they always do. And let's be honest, while the MAGA folks may not always be the most rational or bright lot, they are not pussies. Rallying them against the GOP senators would actually be a logical way for Trump to start the ball rolling for his own party... which would basically kill the GOP and create a "split the vote" situation, which would probably eventually cause a similar rift in with Dems down the road. Four is better than two.

Well, the problem is more of the fact that a sizable chunk of the people who would vote against it would be people the MAGA people wouldn't be voting for anyways and Trump tweeting something like that will probably get idiots siding WITH the people who voted against it simply to spite Trump. Hopefully he stays quiet and the nation can enjoy a rare bit of bi-partisian agreement between the left and right.

Slipping completely unrelated shit into bills needs to stop.

I'm sorry I'm against item line vetos. You could have Trump just veto the part where the military bases stop being named after traitors and when it doesn't go into effect. You basically neuter the ability to negotiate bills and reach compromise.

I say line item veto and ban pork barrel projects. If something is in the bill that doesnt relate to the main purpose of the bill that portion should be automatically disqualified. Perhaps given the chance to be broken off into a seperate bill but still.

It's fair to have that opinion, but you have to see that when a legislator AND one of their harshest critics can both see that this bill is total bullshit, there's a pretty high chance that this bill is bullshit.

Sandy from the blok could have voted against it, but she didn't. I would have thought the missiles for Israel would have been a major bone of contention, but I think a lot of arms were twisted to try to get this thru looking at how random and scattershot all the pork in it is.

It looks like whoever wrote it said "what do you need in this bill to pass it?" And literally everyone had a buckslip to throw in the hat.

The real thing that boggles my mind if that's the case is that nobody had anything for their own constituents, but we're willing to devalue our currency so far just to piss into the wind on foreign aid.

Proof positive that the entire legislature is bought and paid for by foreign interests, frankly.

It feels like devaluing our own currency is actually an end that is sought, not a means.
Giant corporations and businesses love it b/c then they can sell stuff cheaper overseas.
It just fucks over regular American workers trying to save up only for those savings to be eroded, but who gives a shit about them? Certainly not Congressmen!
Like, they don't even care what they piss away the money on, as long as it devalues the currency and doesn't help the poor and middle class.

Here I am, trying to finally buy a house only to discover just how badly the dollar's been devalued just this year and how it's pretty much uniform that houses shot up in asking price by $100K compared to 2019. It's mostly the Fed's fault (like always), but yeah.... All these spending binges by Congress don't help, either.

23.6% of all the USD ever created since 1776 were created in 2020.

We've basically devalued our currency by nearly a quarter of its value in the past year.

And it has been the largest wealth transfer to the 1% in history. Makes the TARP bailouts look like beer money.
