As I understand it, we've regressed to the lowest tier, things got worse, and now we need a new lower tier to drop too. So no.

No, even though things were just fine in our area when it was 50% indoors. The problem was surrounding areas kept getting spikes and had to shut down so all those people started coming out by us so they ruined it for us too.

I have no idea. The nearest restaurant is about 20 miles away and I am trying to stay away from everything. Come to think of it I don't think I have been in a one since all of this started. Crazy times.

yeah Im sure restaurants staying 50% open in your area had nothing to do with the spike in your area

it was all those pesky out of towners flocking in to get some of that sweet Applebees

Well yeah, we were one of the last ones around to close indoor dining and weren't doing bad until everywhere else started closing, unless you think that was just coincidence

Not since last Wednesday (technically Thursday at 12:01 am). They had been open (still with their capacities reduced enough to allow for distancing, but no formal caps on capacity beyond that), but a cluster of cases has turned into our second wave, and almost all of the exposure locations have been bars/restaurants, so stopping dine-in was one of the main measures enacted to try and get this new outbreak under control. Also included in those measures were closing gyms (a distant second for exposures), reducing store capacities, stricter limits on gathering sizes, and the $1000 fine for violating gathering limits is now applied to everyone at the gathering instead of just the hosts (which is honestly how it always should have been, given that it was pretty trivial for larger parties to just split the host's fine among them).

As it turned out, the 37 cases on Tuesday that really sparked the crackdown were an outlier, and every day since then has been more in the 10-15 range that we'd been hovering around for the 2-3 weeks prior, but it was time for a crackdown anyway because it was only a matter of time before sustaining 10-15 cases a day would cause a larger problem. We should start seeing the effects in the next few days, given the incubation time, but hopefully this is enough to get back down to a consistent 0. With Christmas shopping ramping up, though, we may not see a major change until after the holidays.

The one I work at has a buffet and is fully open with no seating restrictions, or mask requirements for employees. And then I'm one of the few that actually wears a mask the whole time I'm there and also the only one that has tested positive for COVID.

IDK, I don't know if everyone else there has got it already and were all totally asymptomatic, or if it's just extreme luck. I wish we had never opened the buffet part back up but I'm glad that no one there has gotten seriously sick.

Just about all of them, albeit with limited capacity. The only one I've noticed that isn't is a fast-food chain - Taco John's.

Some are. They aren't supposed to but there are plenty saying "fuck this, we're done with these rules." The chain places are following rhe rules. But the local places that don't have corporate overlords managing them tend to be allowing indoor dining. Still at dramatically lowered capacity. But many are open.

Took my parents out for a nice sit down meal just last week.

i believe so, but many places are closing theirs down anyway because our cases are massively spiking. ontario's government is reaching new levels of incompetence with their "regional" approach, but hopefully that just means we can vote them out soon

I'm in Texas where everything is basically completely open. I think if percentage of hospitalizations stay above 15% by tomorrow (which will be seven days in a row it's been that high) new restrictions will be put in place.

Now if that actually happens or is enforced is completely up in the air.

No but they're going to allow 50% capacity beginning Dec 14th. The restaurants that aren't equipped to do take out or drive thru are the ones hurting most where I live. Several have closed their doors permanently.

That seems to be a constant in every country yes.

A UK official got into hot water for travelling to visit his weak mother. A Dutch minister got into hot water for inviting fat too many people to his wedding. And obviously many stories more I am forgetting for now.

And then those same politicians wonder why people might be losing faith in the current cabinets.

Several months ago (talking about April-ish), only way you could get food from a restaurant was either drive-thru or by way of services such as Doordash and Grubhub. Around May, some dine-in restaurants reopened, albeit with limited capacity for the sake of social distancing - those that did, mask was required, but you could remove them when you receive your drink and/or food. It's been like that since May.
