Ironic thing is this coronavirus would've been a perfect scapegoat for him had he handled it even marginally better than he has. Economy was humming along before the pandemic. He could've gotten a pass from a lot of people for simply being another casualty of the pandemic "What could Trump do about the economy? He did all he could!" but nah... he fucked things up royally from day one. He would've sailed into a second term no problem if the economy wasn't tanking.

For all the bullshit he's pulled over the past 3+ years, his base has been unshakeable, and a lot of his less loyal supporters would've voted for him again this coming election if he did nothing remarkable to show how incompetent he is. Then boom - Covid. His base will stand by him as always, but those who were not 100% all-in on Trump... he's losing some of those for sure.

Still an uphill battle for Biden. Can't trust the polls. The question is, is he losing enough voters in states where Biden needs them to turn on Trump, and can Trump do something between now and the election to win some of those lost votes back?

It's worse than anyone even realizes tbh. No tourism, no media, retail is hemmoraging, restaurants that have a 30% profit margin are trying to run at 50% capacity. Warner Bros alone is looking at almost $1B losses this year. Random food shortages. The supply chain itself is in distress.

Very few people even see the impending collapse coming and it's going to make both '08 and 1929 look like a blip. We're going to look like Greece next year at the rate things are going.

All kinds of people tried to give him credit for Obamas economy. The problem he is facing is because he bungled the corona stuff he isn't getting a pass. Polling suggests 34ish% of the populace support his handling which aligns exactly with his die hard base who has never faltered in their support of him.

Hope? You're acting like it's hard to deliberately spread the disease when all you'd have to do is have enough infected persons travel to densely-populated cities, not that I'm suggesting that China when the CCP's ignorance and incompetence is more likely.

And yet Democrats have done more far more to obstruct Trump than the Republicans could have ever dreamed of doing to Obama, even blocking shit that Obama had intended to pass like the travel ban just because Trump was the one doing it. That and before Trump took office, Democrats repeatedly announced plans to either remove him from office or make him a one-term president so even your premise is wrong.

Actually it's amazing more viruses have not been released, and to be honest there are MANY countries who could have released it, or none of them did.

It actually doesn't make sense for China to release it though, so those assumptions/accusations don't really make sense. The virus has done nothing but hurt them, so it actually makes sense for countries that dislike china to have released it instead.

China has been doing VERY well for quite awhile, and doesn't need any help. It doesn't need a war, it's winning economically. It caught up to the world technologically as well in a very short time (comparatively), and it's owed significant amounts of money, owns land many places etc. It has nothing to gain from a strong world wide economic collapse, and more to loose than many.

And South Korea eliminated it almost immediately due to their open minded social Democrat president. Republican response is to downplay and gamble for money.

Have you not noticed that Canada has shut down to roughly the same extent as the US? More, even, since we've actually been taking it seriously on a national scale. Canada's been responding to Covid on roughly the same timeline as the US, and while our stats are looking much better (largely thanks to better compliance and lower population density), we're still just gradually reopening now. There's really no reason to expect the Canadian economy to be particularly soaring relative to the American one right now. Maybe in a few months when most provinces have been able to get up and running and half of America has died, but not just yet.

The Canadian dollar is also pretty closely tied to the price of oil. The ~2008 dollar was largely thanks to high oil prices at the time, and it dropping to the 0.70-0.75 range was largely due to them dropping. We're not exactly in a period of high oil prices at the moment. Gas prices aren't a conclusive indicator of crude prices, certainly, but when gas was dropping below 0.70/L a few months ago and is still ~25-30% lower than it usually is at this time of year, that doesn't exactly suggest that oil's in good shape (which is intuitively consistent with global behavioural changes).
