The thing is that this isn't just happening because of their status as cops. It's because they were likely in the act of doing the very thing that caused the protests. They are not cops sitting at home, they're cops out there cracking down on protesters. It's hard to argue that's an innocent act. As I said before, they still shouldn't have been blinded. However, they are the very federal agents escalating the conflict. They're the ones turning this into a Rage Against The Machine music video.

If the cops were doing something they shouldn't have been doing, then we can call this a case of stupid games and stupid prizes. If this was a protestor seeing a cop and blinding them because of their affiliation as a cop, I don't see that as justified.

In any event, the act of blinding someone isn't something to be celebrated. I'd blind someone in a fight if it was the only way to prevent a rape or a murder. But I wouldn't raise my hands in the air and feel accomplished in what I'd done. I think I'd be more likely to have recurring dreams of hollow eye sockets starring back at me.

Cops are government employees. Private individuals aren't. In theory they should all be beholden to the rule of law equally, in practice they aren't.

I agree, they should be required to prove their claims, I'm simply assuming it for the same of argument. There's absolutely no reason to give the Trump admin the benefit of the doubt or to believe them without incontrovertible evidence. Their whole play is to create chaos, justify a crackdown, and provoke sympathy for law enforcement and fear of leftist violence.

If the police attacked the protestors and the protestors fought back, yeah, that's on the cops for initiating that. I won't celebrate their being blinded, but I will celebrate the right of the protestors to defend themselves.

When you see peaceful protestors get beaten for no reason, tear gassed, shot at with rubber billets, hit, and shoved, do cops REALLY think were just gonna give up and be ok with that?

Hell no. We will rise up. They can put down their badges and walk away from the job if they feel attacked or ganged up on. But we know they wont, because they like the power of being a cop way too much.

Portland PD is one of the worst in the country too, regarding police brutality.

@Corrik7 just to add an analogy to this. People can be upset that a big strong person is bullying a weaker vulnerable person and in the same breath be happy to see that weaker vulnerable person snap and punch the bully in the face without it being hypocritical because the fact of the matter is if you spend your entire existence picking on people who can't defend themselves you are eventually going to get your comeuppance.
