Yes. There are many problems and issues between the two nations and the CCP is extremely expansionist. War is seemingly inevitable.

Due to an agreement between the two countries the troops in the disputed zones along the border are not allowed to carry firearms or explosives. So in the recent skirmish that lead to 20 dead Indian soldiers the Chinese troops fought with bare fists and clubs spiked with nails. Now the Chinese have sent martial arts instructors to the area.

Uh, lol? Maybe 50 or 100 years ago, but major nations just don't go to war with each other any more. Even when Russia took back Crimea -- something that would have ignited a major conflict 100 years ago -- there wasn't any serious military action against Russia whereas they might have previously triggered a major attack on Russia.

BUMPED2002 posted...
Wouldn't be much of a war.

China is arguably the world's third strongest military power (following the US & Russia), much of which being tied to its military personnel. And what's the country with the world's second-largest military personnel? India.

Given that the two are relatively close, an armed conflict might very likely take the form of a land war which favors China but it would be a very, very long, protracted war of attrition if it was just between the two of them.

From what I understand is going on, a war of sorts is already going on. Still, escalation into full on open warfare is definitely a possibility. China is used to trampling small countries with little actual power, but India is a large country with a powerful government that will definitely want to hold on to that power.

Only because of M.A.D. However China's been pressuring a LOT of expansionist claims across the world (Taiwan, multiple disputed areas with India, the 9-dash line...) and generally been applying a lot of external pressure. If this keeps up war is inevitable and you DON'T want to Neville Chamberlin it.

The fact I don't return to an argument to continue my part of the discussion doesn't mean I'm wrong and in many cases it doesn't even necessarily mean that there isn't more that I can add or clarify. However, there's a running theme on the internet that whoever stops responding first is wrong, a concept that's so fundamentally flawed I could only call it the Cacciato Principle.

1. The Roman Empire wasn't really a country as we would currently define it
2. China as it currently exists only dates back to the 1950s
3. How the hell does that impact their relationship with India (who also have a history going back thousands of years)

It's incorrect to assume ancient China and modern China are the same thing, in the same sense that it is incorrect to view the classical Roman Empire as the same thing as the HRE, the EU, or even arguably the Byzantine Empire.

Except things like the trade war is partially about one of the actual issues with China's behavior and, long after Jim Webb was talking about it, Trump -- along with other politicians -- finally spoke out about China's illegal attempted seizure of the South China Sea.

India is also unique in that it has no unified identity beyond political power/influence. Modern India only exists because past governments strongly held on to the power that was given to them by the British.

It may be one of the 4 largest countries, but I would think it is also the one to most easily fall apart and of course its government would do anything to prevent that.

Edit: I worded it like that because I thought those 4 were China, India, Russia and the USA, but apparently I am mistaken in that...

India would likely lose in the long run, but it wouldn't be an easy war (unless India just caves). Again, it has the second-largest standing army and one of the world's strongest militaries.
