He eventually took a few Domino's employees hostage and demanded they stop the ads. Eventually he was talked down and arrested. He later committed suicide.

I'm not going to do it because the chances are quite high that anyone taking this attitude is someone with an inflated sense of their own self importance, and anything but total deference to what they're saying will be used as proof of some sort of intolerance, ignorance or hatred on my part.

Fuck that. They want me to "shut up and learn it" they have to convince me that they have something to say first. Just being from a historically marginalized group is not enough. Bingo. And for the record, people HAVE complained that the imagery was racist, since, like, forever, which is why the company has constantly updated the look to tone down any mammy aspects. And they weren't cancelled, Quaker did this on their own, likely to get ahead of the game, here.

But really, who gives a shit? It's a fucking syrup brand, and the Bud Light equivalent of the syrup world at that. Even though enough time has passed that hardly anyone associates it with its racist past, it's a harmless olive branch to rebrand it.

This keeps getting quoted so I'll join in. I'll also assume this post is what Mead meant by it's "been explained" since he isn't pointing to any other example. I think if someone finds something offensive other people should accept that they personally are offender, and they should accept that other people personally are not offended. If someone wants to make the case as to why more people should find it offensive then let them make a case for it and let others make up their own mind about about it. In other words, let people think for themselves; stop acting like a totalitarian moral dictator.
