Ana Thallas, the heartbroken mother of 21 y/o Isabella Thallas, is paying tribute to her "hippie chic" daughter who was shot and killed with an AR-15 wielding man who was apparently angry about her and and her bf yelling at their dog over POOPING!!

She was fatally shot during the dispute that happened just before noon last Wednesday near Coors Field in Denver and had just celebrated her 21st birthday just days earlier.

Her bf, 26 y/o Darian Simon was wounded in the shooting and survived.

The mother of 3 said her daughter had a "beautiful soul" with a "pure heart" as she told CBS that Isabella wanted to be a mom and have a family as she and Darian were building a future together.

She was just going to pick up a birthday present for her when she got the devastating news that her daughter was killed.

She said "I'm just waiting for this dream to end and for me to wake up. All i know is that a piece of me died that day. She loved to travel. Fashion. make-up and travel. She was my little chic hippie girl"

Isabella was a second year student at Metro State University while majoring in Finance as Darian was the co-owner and founder of the clothing label Be A Good Person

36 y/o Michael Close was the man who fired at the duo and is now charged with 1st degree murder.

According to documents, Darian and Isabella were taking his dog named Rosco, a rescue out for a walk when he yelled at Rosco to poop. Then they heard a man's voice screaming from a ground level apartment asking if they were going to train their dog to go or just yell at it instead.

While they ignored him, suddenly the man took out his AR-15 and pointed it at them which they thought was a pellet gun and moments later gunshots rang out and hit both of them. Isabella was killed instantly while Darian was severely wounded and ran but stopped mid-way and fell over where he was taken to hospital after shattering his femur.

Ronan O'Shea, a neighbor said he heard 6-12 gunshots rang out and recounted how officers had their guns drawn on the streets warning people to stay inside. They tracked down the suspect at an intersection and took him in.

Several firearms were found in his car as he has no prior criminal record.

Ana still can't believe that her daughter's life was taken away all over a dog pooping and now her whole life has been changed because of it..

A Gofundme page was launched which has now surpassed over 70,000 for funeral expenses

EDIT: Misread your post because it's stupid beyond belief in context. I thought you were bitching that gun control advocates were going to come in here and hi-jack the discussion -- which they frequently do -- instead of people defending the second amendment (because why would they randomly bring it up?)

And considering the general lawlessness of this nation, assault weapons are needed more now than ever. Otherwise, the fact that they were killed by an assault weapon instead of a normal handgun is meaningless. The problem isn't the weapon, it's that the guy was pissed off because they ignored him and he took shit too far. Even without guns, they could have been killed for it. Welcome to life.

Actually the distance described would have meant that both would have had a higher chance of living with just a handgun.

They probably wouldn't have been killed if the guy didn't have a gun. The simple act of having to leave his apartment building and chase them down instead of taking shots from the window would have given him an opportunity to cool off, and even if that hadn't worked, he'd be attacking two people and a dog, which would dramatically shift the odds in the victims' favour. It's hardly a guarantee that they would have survived, certainly, but it's completely absurd to suggest that they'd be just as likely to be killed if he attacked them with a knife as if he took pot shots at them with a rifle.

Is that so? Because I'm fairly sure one fires fatter rounds than the other and so doesn't overpenetrate at close range. It's as though one gun is designed for short distance encounters like this and it's not the AR.

An AR-15 has a max effective range of 300 meters, while the average handgun has max effective range of about 91 meters. Pretty sure 300 is a lot more than 91.

An M14 has an effective range of 500 meters but you don't see everyone and their dog using one. 5.56 is an intermediate round, it is for middle distance combat i.e. 200m+, at close range it overpenetrates and that means a less lethal wound.

A pistol is made for short distance, say shouting distance, in this range it doesn't overpenetrate so it cavitates creating a larger wound. Pistol bullets are fatter, they make a bigger hole, rifle rounds are flatter and slip through with less damage if they don't have time to shed some speed.

That's if the guy was even able to hit. The max effective range for the average pistol is 91 meters, but that's for a skilled shooter. Most average shooters can get max effective range of 45 meters.

Too many folk are trigger happy in USA it seems. This is a sad story but until the gun laws in the USA are tightened these things will continue to happen. With that said a weapon in the hands of someone mentally unstable is never a good idea anyway.
