Dont care for the poll options. Im not afraid of it but I dont feel its fear mongering. Just look at the actual number and you can see that you should display caution, but its not something to be afraid of unless you were high risk.

Because the demand for respirators and intensive care has been beyond any previous planning, doctors have been forced into the kind of triage thinking developed for intense battlefield casualty situations. There are reports that emergency room doctors are allotting respirators to those with higher life expectancy due to the limited equipment in the hardest hit areas of the province. If you are older or have other illnesses, you may simply not be eligible for treatment.

Not afraid, and doubtful that anyone's going to be able to do anything meaningful about it.

IMO, they should just quarantine the elderly and other high-risk groups and let everyone else catch it so they can develop immunity to it. From there, those who've had it and recovered from it can be used as a source for a vaccine; antibodies and dead/weakened COVID-19 which, once properly set up, can be administered to the quarantined to get them immune with much lower risk before lifting the quarantine.

Maybe that's not exactly how those kinds of things work, but I would think a method along those lines, corrected for scientific accuracy, should be effective.

Most people are focusing on the mortality rate, but a good chunk of people are still being hospitalized from it. Stopping as many people as possible from getting it is the best option.

Not afraid of it personally, the media is definitely overplaying this by an insane degree, but I am concerned for a few people I know and love who would stand a candlelight's chance in Helheim if they caught this damned virus.

New info is out and the numbers are pretty bad, even in China things are turning for the worse (number of critical/severe cases vs mild have drastically risen.

It seems like it may have mutated, but if you already got it, your safe (so you were I guess lucky??).

Currently in China there are about 11,000 cases (there were almost 10x that in the past), but of the cases left in China 30% are critical or severe, 70% are mild.

Previously in china there was a 5% death rate (95% recovered, 5% died).

So it's a massive difference.

Italy is has had 20k total cases, of which 3400 have closed (either recovered or died).

Of those closed 42% dead.....1441 deaths total as of 2 hours ago.

Of those current cases that have not closed 91% are mild and 9% care critical or severe, so it looks like ttey are hopefully getting a handle on it, but we are still looking at possibly a 10% mortality rate (of course over all it wlll be higher then that due to the initial 42%).

China is larger then the us, but when it hit.....the mortality rate seems to have been much lower. If we get hit with the current strain, it could lead to a death rate over 10% and possibly over 15%.

Also it's not just the elderly, in fact in Italy they are not treating those who are old and/or have previous conditions (you know, like me), so they can treat the younger patients who have a better chance of recovering.

Not scared of getting sick, but I am a caretaker for my elderly grandmother. Not sure what our family would do to take care of her with me off the schedule.

This - and I *am* high risk. But apart from visiting agency caregivers & mail deliveries I'm essentially isolated already.

The scary part being you could have it and not even know it and you could unknowingly spread to family and friends, co-workers etc.
