I think that until the electoral college is ended, primaries would be better served if they made battleground states (defined as states they won or lost by +/- 5% last election) worth more delegates.

Cause yeah, it doesn't fucking matter who wins TX, CA, SC, MA, etc...
What matters is who wins states like Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, etc...

It seems like trump has Florida on lockdown, which is going to hurt badly. Dems have to sweep almost all the other close states to have a chance. It's disturbing how they seem to think they'll win just because people are angry. Like...they could win the popular vote by 5 fucking million and still lose. If they're not winning in like 10 specific states, nothing else matters.

It would be more helpful to not preserve ancient prerogatives for states like Iowa that barely fucking matter, which thus shape the momentum of the rest of the elections in unnatural ways. Having the first few primaries in states that don't really reflect the opinions of the rest of the country tends to mess with the overall picture.

Yeah, agreed. I'd put states into "sectors". Basicaly group states nearby together and as close to their ideological bent as possible. Like, the North East could be one, Southwest and Pacific coast another, Southeast, etc... Maybe 5 groups of 10.
Then within those groups, it rotates the order they get to have their primaries each presidential election year.

You give like a 2-4 week period for the first states in each group to hold theirs, then another block of time for the 2nd in each group, and so on.

Would be a lot better than what we have now.

Counties seems like it could potentially be incredibly uneven in terms of population between different ones, and thus make some votes worth a lot more than others. So...not much different that now.
And since Democrats are largely concentrated in urban centers, it would probably fuck them over even worse than the electoral college.

EDIT: And what determines a county, anyway? The state government? Wouldn't it just result in gerrymandering the counties?

Trump might think that he's a lock for Florida but there's a lot of Bernie supporters here too, especially in metro areas of Tampa, Miami and Orlando. That's not to include those who fled Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands after Maria, along with some from the Bahamas who came here after Dorian. In fact it's possible (though remote) that Florida might turn blue this time around.

It'll be interesting to see the primary results.
The mass media seems to think Bernie will do worse than Biden in FL* because of his Castro comments.
But Trump has made FL his home state and runs things from the state for like 1/3 of the year, plus no matter how much their Republicans fuck them over on the environment nor how corrupt they are, it seems like the state is drifting right. I thought it was fucked up enough that the guy who defrauded Medicare out of a billion dollars won two terms as governor, but then he went and unseated a longtime Democratic senator on top of that. FL sadly seems lost...

* And most other battleground states, for other reasons

Yup. Even though I spent a good portion of this morning laughing at Bidens re-elect Trump gaffe... and even though I hate the fucking Democrat establishment... I will be voting for Biden if hes the nominee.

Its obvious that Trump only have a fuck about the Coronavirus until it became politically damaging for him.

Again, I hate the establishment but at least they take steps to protect us from shit like these weird ass viruses. Trump is like a pimp that offers no protection whatsoever. Just takes the money and gives absolutely nothing in return.

There is no way in hell Florida is a lock for Trump, the state is facing huge problems with global warming as places like Miami get flooded more and more as the years go by.

There is a huge transplant of Puerto Ricans that migrated to Florida when they were given no help as their country faced extreme weather problems. Oh wait, I guess Trump did toss them paper towels which obviously were a huge help. Trump got only about 100k more votes than Hillary did in Florida 4 years ago, not really having the place on lock.

By any logical measure, Florida should be hardcore turning away from republicans after they've controlled that state for decades and done so much harm to it. And yet...

Peurto Ricans are US citizens dude they just can't vote when they live in Peurto Rico but once they have established residency in the US they then get every right a native born American has. They don't have to go through the entire immigration process like say someone trying to move here from Mexico.

heck a week and a half ago most people thought Biden was pretty much out of the race

I really dont understand why so many people are so insistent that certain things are going to happen. History is mostly shit that nobody saw coming.

Or those other states could send a message by voting for the other guy. However, in general, this whole red-blue state bullshit is a more recent media invention.
