You can't thwart the auto-numbering AFAIK but if the issue is you want control over it you can go like:

#1.
#2.
#3.

or something and interrupt it from triggering. But just outright stopping it? I haven't figured out a way to do that.

yeah I'm making my first actual topic on board 8 in quite a while, and these changes immediately got on my nerves. the numbered listed auto formatting is the worst. especially when I'm not even trying to make a list of any kind and it still does it! like if you put - at the beginning of a sentence

you can work around it by going back and adding the symbols after you type out everything else, but this is a very awkward and unnatural way to type.

oh yeah this annoys me to no end. i always type a letter before the number and then erase the letter after

I only switched to the new format because it allows you to embed images (which is a net positive). But everything else about it is worse. I'd switch back if they let you upload on the classic post box.

Also the New Topic page doesn't have a "preview message" button even though the post box inside topics does.
