Yeah, it's admittedly a tricky case. I felt the same way when the MCU's Spider-Man got nominated a few years back

It technically doesn't break the rules, and there's no way to really exclude ones like those without excluding many more that should get a chance (in particular, even from the first time I ran this contest, my intent was always to include characters from tv/movies that were based on books, because for the majority the adaptation would be their first time experiencing the characters).

My hope is always that people will choose to nominate or not based on what they really feel are new for that year (which I also realize is going to be different for everyone).
