Glancing through them 2012, 2014, and 2015 all look pretty terrible (though 2015 has a few games I didn't get around to that I suspect I'd like like Bloodborne). 2012 has literally only Xenoblade (which was very good!)

Death Stranding will age well, I believe, but it's not an all-time great game. It's an "interesting" game though.

Id say judging a year based on a limited amount of games/genres played + game of the year is wrong

Then again being "bruh just play indie games and branch out ez!" Isnt always that easy either.

It may not be, but unless he's going to give these games an actual shot, why should we take anything he says on the subject seriously? After reading how he's spoken in the topic, does anyone believe he went in to any of the indie games he says he's played with an actual open mind, ready to have his opinion changed? I sure don't.

My main issue here is how he's basically saying "all your indie games suck and I'm right no matter what" and then being all "heaven forbid I express my OPINION to you people!" when people are obviously going to push back on such an offputting stance. Like he's not wrong in that indie games have a lower ceiling, it's natural that a small company doesn't have the resources like a company like nintendo. But to act like these games just don't exist and then get butthurt when someone uses them as an example of good games this year, no thanks.

While that mindset possibly exists you have to realize that it possibly forms from somewhere too. Like if someone dislikes 10 lauded indie games in a row when they have an open mind, does that make their feelings on the next 10 not worth taking seriously by default? I don't know.

It's possible he's just bad at expressing himself or cares about winning arguments too much but has actually given these games a fair shot. I consider myself the less obnoxious version of Axl in terms of tastes in that I can count the number of indie games I thought were really great on one hand (plenty of decent ones though, and have played a lot less probably because I don't really care about giving a shot for the sake of it)-- but I certainly don't have an <i>agenda</i> to dislike indie games or anything.

I don't hate RE6 as nearly as much as I used to. The game is legit crazy fun, and honestly I like the stories the game presents, like the team-up of Birkin/Wesker's children is fantastic. It's just not a very good RE game gameplay wise.

- Stardew Valley (think Animal Crossing: New Leaf and Harvest Moon: Back to Nature was enough for a lifetime as far as games of similar nature are concerned but I see why this game is beloved by people who enjoy the genre)
- Divinity: Original Sin II (maybe I can give it a chance again in the future. I loved Planescape and Baldur's Gate II but maybe just wasn't in the right mindset for this game)

- Salt & Sanctuary
- No Man's Sky
- FTL: Faster than Light
- Pyre
- The Sexy Brutale
- The Witness

There is probably more I'm forgetting about right now.

But yeah you tell me whether I'm judging them without even giving them a proper shot or not. Or do I need to play like a hundred more of them before I'm qualified enough to talk about Indie games?

Or should I just not be allowed to criticize indie games around here since it is the holy grail of board 8 because I'll stop. No sarcasm intended. I didn't make this topic to talk about my opinion on indie games anyway.

You need to at least beat 50 indie games to have any objective opinion on them.

No sarcasm intended. Less than 50 games is casual-tier at best.

Skyrim is a plague. A decade ago if the same game kept popping up a decade later at full price everyone would hate on it. Skyrim is the harbinger of us not only not getting new ideas in our games but not getting new games at all. Forget sequels with improvements, all will be Skyrim for eternity.

After it was all said and done RE5 is in the top half of my rankings.

Probably the world war Dante and I fought in co-op.
