I know we want to avoid giant walls of text, but the "one paragraph (no more than two)" for pitch length, isn't that a struggle? Especially for fitting 10 characters in there?

I was envisioning a pretty thorough explanation of what I was planning, damn... I guess I'll really try to boil it down to two (overloaded) paragraphs.

I guess I'm willing to remove the "mention every character by name" part.

If you were pitching at a look-see meeting, you'd be asked to boil down the concept very quickly in person. And walls of text are always a bad thing in comics.

The rules were posted at the beginning, if you read them. Nothing here changes any of those rules.

I'm just honing in on what the playing field will look like (which is all stuff I'm sure everyone was expecting, but it just needs to be explicitly listed for the benefit of preventing someone attempting to game the system), and how people should format their pitches, none of which is affected by the drafting process.

EDIT: The only real change here is potentially changing how long rounds last because otherwise this might drag out, and that's not set in stone yet.

Yes, sorry, I'll fix that in a new thread. Fights are always six-on-six. Pitches are always all-inclusive.

I'm fine with this. The only limitation is that other characters cannot be on a team or funding a team, or directing a team, etc.

Also, doing the math, I'm only going to make the participation rule that you have to have every character must be out of at least two matches and in at least three matches.

And, I know this is obvious, but our pitch can't directly effect any of the other teams, yeah? At one point I was contemplating the viability of a murder mystery, before SOMEONE took Jamie, and directly lead to my rejecting picking up Scott.

I figured something like that negatively effecting my team would be the only way that concept was acceptable.

Your pitch has nothing to do with anyone else's. If you kill someone in your pitch, it has no bearing on theirs.

Note: Please do not do something akin to "Apocalypse takes over the world and now we're in the Age of Apocalypse but just set in the 616", which is just creating an alternate reality.

*Ah!* Just wanted to make sure after you said all teams take place in MU 616. Mind immediately assumed shared universe for the project as a whole.

Just for clarification, the "no alternate reality, no future arc" rule applies primarily to the characters drafted, correct? Like, the team itself is comprised of the 616-living characters and could feasibly take place in main continuity. But if the team went to alternate realities or future arcs, that would be okay?

Yeah, sounds good. What I'm trying to avoid is essentially providing an "eleventh member". I guess I'm willing to take this on a case-by-case basis to some extent. If the character's involvement is similar to Jim Gordon with Batman ("Hey, there's this threat, please help us"), that's fine. We're looking to avoid live-in non-members, like "Professor X is housing this team and giving them missions and funding them, but he's not a member". Or like in Exiles, where someone else functionally keeps a team together and administers the roster, the missions, etc.

I am okay with a preexisting team traveling elsewhere, like an Exiles-type concept. But they have to be 616 versions. This rule exists mainly so people cannot arbitrarily change a character's personality or powers.

I guess I'm still fixated on this:

Voters SHOULD consider other aspects of team status; if characters would make sense working together, if characters have abilities that are mutually exclusive, etc.

So for example, I drafted Gaia specifically due to a meaningful past connection with X-Man, which served as the impetus for her leaving Generation X and not being seen since, and would be part of the reason for joining my team.

If our pitch is meant to be a brief "look-see" concept summary, we can't really fit in those "make sense working together" connections that voters might not be aware of unless they did the research themselves before voting, or in this example, read & remember those 2 issues from 20 years ago...

So I'm just feeling the crunch a little bit here to get the concept explanation in a quick and concise manner, while also fitting in some rationale for characters being on the team which'll help inform (and persuade) voters.

You'll have entire rounds to talk about your pitches, etc. But the only thing people HAVE to consider is the pitch itself.

I'll also make mention that readers get far less of a pitch in comic solicitations for new titles than this.

Ah, so I can have the basic mandatory 1-2 paragraph pitch concept and then drop my more robust/fleshed-out character explanations when arguing on my team's behalf in the fight topics? I guess that would work.

Another question, about the team rosters per match. I take it they would be PMed to you ahead of time? Otherwise, whoever posted their 6-man roster first would theoretically give their opponent an inherent advantage in deciding who to sit out....

Excellent. Thanks again for running this, I got so much reading to do in the days ahead, lol. Vulcan arcs on hand, picking up the recent X-Man ones, House of X and catching up on current continuity. Really sounds like they've gone in an interesting direction...!

Think I managed to squeeze a good pitch into two paragraphs. It's kinda tough because you gotta justify team members as well as the general selling point, which is more than a comic book pitch would need to especially since these casts in theory are built gradually over many issues.
