Ozzy Osborne is? He very clearly hasnt been relevant in a while. Are teenagers supposed to know who every dude from the 80s is?

Has he even consistently been on TV since that reality show he and his family had in the early 2000s?

I think's it's more the fact people think Post Malone made him famous instead of doing some research.

At least that's what I saw on twitter.

But it's okay, because this 30 year old didn't know who tf post malone was until this Ozzy fiasco.

You'd have to live under a rock to not know who he is. I take that back. You'd have to live in an underground bunker with no access to the outside world ever

Anyway, I figured it was more of a joke/meme that people didnt know who he was moreso than people actually being that oblivious

You seriously didn't just compare Ozzy to the beatles did you?

There is a massive difference there, I mean seriously.

I mean, I'm even an ozzy fan (just not his concerts in the last 20+ years), I like a ton of his music, and still play it.

But yeah, ANYONE not knowing who the beatles are is hard to believe, even like a 10 year old.

I'm be down with someone who was 30 not knowing Ozzy, or 40 or any age. Not everyone is into that kinda music, and even if you like rock/hard rock, alot of people might not have liked Ozzy (he's more metal rock).

But even if for some whacked out reason you don't like ANY of the beatles songs (I feel sorry for you), you should at least know who they are...even if your deaf........and blind....and play pinball alot.....you STILL would know them.

Exactly. Now you can argue that that's mostly because of Iommi and Geezer, and Ozzy was along for the ride, but the dude was the voice of an incredibly influential band.

Guess it depends on your musical taste and what you consider influential.

I do like quite a few beatles songs, and can even sing them, but they were before my time, and mainly have the distinction of being the least rock/hard rock/metal type group that I actually add to spotify (other then Enya etc on my new age list).

Ozzy is sure on my list, pretty much all of his songs, but I wouldn't even come close to rating him up there with Metallica (went to a few concerts of theirs as well, WAY better than ozzy's...even that time their equipment blew up and they had to use Korns instead).

I'm slightly prejudiced because I went to only one of his concerts and it was really bad....probably the worst concert I went to (think it was his second retirement tour). I still do like his music though, but yeah, I rate Tom Petty waaay over Ozzy, and even though I love Tom's music, I still rate the beatles over him.

Still have not seen Yesterday (Waiting for it to hit DvD) but am looking forward to it. I know all the words to that song, hey jude and a bunch of other beatles songs.

I might know the chorus on a few of Ozzy's but thats about it, even after playing video games with a bunch of them as part of a puzzle (the actual music video for no more tears etc) that you had to put together while listening to it (so I heard them ALOT lol). Think that might have even been on the jaguar system.

Honestly the most influential part of Ozzy as a solo act is Randy Rhoads guitar playing on "Blizzard of Oz" and "Diary of a Madman", Randy was a monster.

It's always around 30 that adults start realizing they're not young and aren't in on the "cool" shit anymore. That's about how old I was when the younger generation starting pissing me off. Then those people get older, realize it's dumb to get angry over that stuff, and then the teenagers hit 30 and the cycle repeats forever, ok?

It shows complete ignorance when people dont realize just how influential sabbath is. The sheer number of bands that have spawned directly as a result of sabbath. There are probably more bands named after sabbath songs and that owe their identity to sabbath than any other band

To top that off, not every rock band will cite the beatles as an influence but just about every single metal band on the planet would cite sabbath

Well, then we're probably making separate arguments. It seems you're referencing society and culture whereas I'm referencing bands/musicians. In terms of sheer number of musicians and bands, I'd say the level of influence is probably a lot closer than some here might think. I've talked to more rock musicians that cite zeppelin personally than I have the Beatles. But in terms of impact on music and society at the time, that's a different story

It would be fair if it was collaborative, but I think from your current location you cant really expect as many people to have heard of him.

And if it wasnt the Beatles, it would have been someone else. Sabbath specifically (Iommi) used to crank his amp so that he couldnt hear people talking while he was playing at shows when they first started. That with a clean tone would be enough to get that overdrive sound had it not already been invented.

Saw him on the OzFest year when they did the Black Sabbath reunion. There's been rumors for years that he has a shadow singer that's been hiding in the wings for years at live gigs. I believe it 100%. The guy is as good at apeing Ozzy as Rome is at apeing Bradley from Sublime. There were points in the show where I'd bet my ass, hat, and gloves that you could see Ozzy sucking wind on stage while his shadow singer carried on from back stage.

You can't put a 70 year old man in leather pants that are 2 sizes too small and expect him to truly be the Prince of Darkness.

It's not like the thing is unheard of...for the majority of Bon Jovi's "Glory days" , Alec John Such was the credited bassist, because he looked the big hair pretty boy part, but the real guy in the studio and actually playing on tour from the shadows backstage was Hugh McDonald. A session musician born in '51 that obviously didn't fit the bill in the 80's.

I would seriously posit that Deep Purple, Jimi Hendrix, and the Who were the real progenitors of hard Rock and heavy metal.

And if we're being really pedantic, I'd say Cromagnon was the first true heavy metal band.
