What do you guys think about it?

I think it's decent, but lacking in innovation. It felt a lot like Smash 4.

I also hate when they do those "slow-down" killing blows.

The Midgar level is so sick though. That's my one positive.

At least competitively it feels like a tremendous step up from 4, but obviously we have to wait for the grossness of the meta to fully develop.

Worst menu-ing of a game pound-for-pound I have ever seen in my life though. How did they fuck that up so bad? Takes 3 minutes to change minor rules, and god forbid you dont have a name, or were on the wrong one. Patch this...

I'm still waffling on whether its better than 4.

Ultimately if they had just given us 4 but with an improved tweaked smash run and a fine tuned smash tour and better menus I might have preferred that.

4's problems were mostly due to how it artificially stretched out the game, and ultimate fixes that, but in doing so it also takes out a lot of what made 4 a game that could be played forever

Brawl is still my favorite, but Ultimate is really good. Spirits is much better than anything Smash 4 Wii U had to offer. I would have loved to see Smash Run return from the 3DS version, but what can ya do.

I haven't played a smash game since Melee. I was super hyped for this but have had a real hard time getting into it. I'm really bad at it and get frustrated easily while playing. Something about character movement doesn't click with me.

I may try to adjust controller settings whenever I get back into it. Anybody have suggestions?

I was on the 64 being king train till Ultimate. 64 still has my favorite feeling gameplay in the series. Smash 4 is "close enough" but has no single player to speak of really. 4 vs 64 is definitely close though.

But Ultimate's abundance of characters and content combined with the second best feeling mechanics in the series pushes it over the top. I'll accept slightly less satisfying gameplay for 6x the characters and a ton more content to explore.

Ultimate is absolutely loaded with content, especially from a single player stance.

However, there is one thing that Brawl still has in its single player campaign that World of Light lacks. I wish there was more interaction between these characters. In the opening cutscene, you have dialogue from Fox, Zelda, Pit, and Marth, and that's as far as it goes. SSE was brilliant in forming alliances between characters you'd never expect and they make it work, from Diddy Kong and Fox, or Samus and Pikachu, or Olimar and Falcon. In Ultimate, you're supposed to be building a resistance with nearly every Nintendo character ever, but they don't do anything together after Kirby escapes the genocide.

Sorry, to be clear, when I say I prefer 4 im referring to the best features from two versions. Ultimate is better than both individually, but 4s combined best features would trump ultimate (maybe.)

Smash Ultimate is the best Smash game and it's not even really close unless you love shitty platforming a lot, or you love having to press L every time you land with an aerial attack to reduce landing lag.

World of Light is so much better than Subspace, the fights are more creative and challenging, the bosses are better, more challenging, and fairly made, and I don't really care about hamfisted interactions being left out of the mode.

Classic mode is the best it's ever been. Loading doesn't take too long, the mode is short and sweet, the bonus game doesn't feel like a massive chore for half the cast (As much as I love race to the finish, that mode sucked with a lot of characters) and is fun, having fixed stages and fights is way better than praying you don't get PACLAND or 75M... you get the picture. I don't mind the Hands being there that often either, because they're usually fun to fight (unless they do that screen shrinking move, fuck that <_<)

The cast is the best it's ever been. This is objective. Nobody can argue against the cast in this game, because it has everybody plus killer newcomers.

The soundtrack is the best it's ever been. This is more subjective, but having most of the good tracks from previous games return plus Castlevania, Splatoon, select new ones for other series, and more music on the way with the Fighter Pass, it's unbeatable.

Even though the online still has issues, it's amazing for playing with people who live nearby but you can't meet up for whatever reason. It's also still better than the shit Brawl and Smash 4 offered us connection wise.

The stage list is the best it's ever been. There are a couple of unfortunate snubs, but no other game in the series can touch this selection.

The training mode is the best it's ever been, with better options for testing combos against the dummy AI you have set up.

Really, my only complaints so far are that Cruel Smash is still in (Who the fuck is playing this mode for any reason besides achievements?) and All Star Smash is now set up like 100 man smash without any recovery items. That's it. Those are the only issues I have. The list for every other Smash game goes on far longer than Ultimate's, so by default it's the best to me.

Im coming around to it. He has a better kit this time around, and Im discovering he doesnt play all that differently than his Brawl version, its just adjusted for the engine and the tools you use are different. Best projectile in the game(ish), and with the dash mechanics an oppressively-safe FSmash. Aggressively defensive is a good way to describe him. Still miss that back-air though..

Also wish he wasnt in total edgelord form this time.

Weird that everyone calls them kill shots. I've always thought of them as more like super-crits, since you're probably going to die, but they are survivable if you get sent towards the far edge.

Anyway, I'm loving the game. The thought that's gone into the rulesets of some of the Spirit fights to make them representative of the character is superb.

I wish the slow mo kills happened a little less often, like only for fully charged smash attacks or if it could somehow gauge a perfectly executed strike? I dunno, I like it when it happens during a tense moment, but it seems to happen too much.
