What about fire in space Blackturtle? Opinions? And since when do all science fiction works follow the same 'science'? Was there some sort of international meeting of science fiction writers where they sat down and created the law of nature within science fiction works?

Also rebels might start spamming warp drive kamikazes now, who knows. Commercial planes have existed for a long time and it took forever terrorists to use them even though the precedent has been there for a long time.

the "it ignores the science in science fiction complaint" is stupid. star wars has always been space opera, not science fiction.

if you want a science fiction movie with actual science, watch the andromeda strain.

I'm willing to forgive a lot in sci-fi, as long as the creators stick to their own damn rules. Star Wars since the great EU purge has completely abandoned any semblance of continuity, which retroactively ruins the original movies.

If you could just hyperspace jump through a forcefield and pull up 1000 ft from the surface of Star Killer, why couldn't the rebels have just jumped through the shield around DSII in Jedi? Would have saved a lot of lives and they wouldn't have needed the ground strike on the forest moon.

Technology to do that didn't exist in RotJ but, with the passage of time leading to TLJ, hyperspace jump technology got better.

But really who gives a fuck you're being pedantic.

I don't think it's pedantic to question the merit of a scene that renders around half of your battle scenes in the series pointless. Let's ignore episode 1-6 and just apply that for the most recent trilogy in case that hyperspace jump technology thing getting better is intended and not a handwave-- you could've saved a ton of casualties in space attacks in just TLJ and TFA alone by employing tactical kamikaze hyperspace jumps

I mean, did hyperspace tech actually improve? Because there was mention in one of the old books of some legend of someone hyperspace jumping into a planet or something and blowing it the fuck up.

It feels like a "life hack" to me more than anything.

I think it's a cool moment that is just betrayed by the movie because the movie is very busy trying to break every Star Wars convention at once, so it becomes easy to pile on top of this moment as well because breaking convention starts to lose its luster when you do it too much.

For what it's worth, I don't necessarily agree the movie wants you to disagree with Poe's actions.

This is probably the worst of it. Poe's actions aren't bad at all from the context of what we see, but then we're proven wrong because that's what the script demands. A twist for the sake of a twist.

Wow I guess they're gonna have to explain now why this never happens again then.

@OliviaTremor This is not true. It took less than a century for real life terrorists to do that. In Star Wars space ships exist for thousands of years. And there are a lot more intelligent life forms that use them. Yet nobody thought to do that.
