I never got around to actually viewing any of his solo stuff, only knew him through his time on Game Grumps which was fun enough. But he's also personally not someone I want to support.

From what I understand it all comes from one interview where the interviewer started randomly asking a funnyman YouTuber about world politics and JonTron gave some very unprepared, rambling responses that definitely leaned racist. If I'm wrong and it's more than that, then okay, but if that interview is where all of it comes from I definitely feel like it's blasted way out of proportion.

It was not just Mexican migrants that were mentioned by Jafari, however, with the YouTuber also pushing forward an argument that white people are aggressed against in their own nations, while stating that black Americans from wealthy demographics commit more crime than white Americans from poorer demographics a statement that it is worth noting is unfounded. Jafari also argued against the need for further equality on racial grounds, stating that weve gotten rid of discrimination in our Western countries.

The problem is that he doubled down and started into white identity/nationalist ideals, argued rich black people commit more crimes than poor white people, talked about Mexicans reconquering parts of the southern US, etc.

Okay yeah, that's pretty bad. Didn't know the depth of it by a long-shot.

Still though, I'm a firm believer in separating the art from the artist, so this doesn't really affect my enjoyment of his content. H.P. Lovecraft was significantly more racist than this and I still love his writing, for example. (As does everyone else apparently, going by pop culture.)

I have no problem with people choosing to still enjoy his product. If you can separate the two, it doesn't make you a racist as well. @WiggumFan267 and I had many a discussion about this after it came out and I chose not to support his work anymore. I unsubscribed to his channel and unfollowed him on Twitter and haven't seen anything of his since nor rewatched any old videos.

the impression i've gotten (as someone who didn't know who he was until this controversy) is that he's probably not a racist but seems a little bit naive and easily swayed into accepting misleading information and taking stances that allign with the stances taken by white supremacists even though he isn't one

like, someone who says weve gotten rid of discrimination in our Western countries" isn't a racist who is fighting against equality - they're someone who is possibly naive enough to believe that nothing more needs to be done - someone who believes that everyone is already treated equally.

you can debate for yourself if you believe that's true (probably it's somewhere in between - people are treated better now than ever before BUT there's still way more room for improvement) but my experience from reading the beliefs of people like jontron is that the reason they're so... adamant about topics like this is because they perceive that nothing more needs to be done, and therefore people who are trying to do more are taking it too far and threatening what he believes is an already peaceful status

You can think its wrong that the parking garage smells like pee, but it would be super bizarre to step into a parking garage and feel offended that it smells like pee. Like at what point are you going to get over it and start doing something productive (clean the pee) or ignore it.

i think what santa is trying to say is, if someone comes to you with a statement like the one quoted above that "black Americans from wealthy demographics commit more crime than white Americans from poorer demographics"

you have to decide if that person is a racist who is trying to use false/misleading statistics in order to spread hatred of black people (which would be offensive)

or if they're an ignorant person who is saying something that is totally wrong but they just believe to be true because they've been fooled and/or convinced that they're being "woke" or seeing the truth by realizing this. (which is just wrong)
