And just to nip it in the bud, no it's not funny for you to post "THE STANLEY PARABLE!" or "DA RAPHAEL PARABLE!"

Yes we get it and it was a great gag, but it doesn't need repeating.

That aside, people on boards like this tend to be jaded and embarrased to let their guards down. A lot of users won't even admit they cried when they were children unless they see 17 other users say it first.

But games have come a long way since Pong and either by gameplay, music or storyline, many games have had a big impact on people the same way songs or movies or books have done. Even the hardest of us have had our heartstrings played like a fiddle.



And what would be some examples of games touching you like that? Either bringing out sadness or joy or anger or fear?

A few have got to me and some of them are honestly surprising.

Really? I thought the ending of Halo 3 when MC goes into cryo by himself lost in space while they give him a memorial on Earth was more emotional.

Dom dying at the end of Gears of War 3 got me, the story is cheesy and dumb in the GoW games but I got pretty attached to the characters and Gears 3 takes them all in an interesting direction

Final Fantasy Tactics, the Delita & Ovelia ending. Hit me right in the feels.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. The whole ending cinematic was great.

Spec Ops The Line. Mostly because I played it before the big surprise was ruined for me. "Just remember, after this is all over, you can still go home". Fuck, I don't know if I can replay it.

Surprisingly, Infinite Warfare's ending got to me. That CoD tried taking its characters a little more seriously than usual, and the death recordings at the ending credits are pretty rough.

Peace Walker made me tear up too, partially because I know in the end he will realize the Boss was right all along, but only after him and several others create war in her name.

The ending of Assassin's Creed 4 was touching too, from when Edward sees all the dead pirates looking at him in approval from a table to when he finally meets his new daughter. What Blackbeard said in the game I always liked too ("In a world without gold, we would have been heroes!")

Closest I got to crying however was the ending of Crisis Core, which is crazy because I know exactly how it would end. They were so close but the price of freedom is steep ;_;

Lee's death in Telltale's Walking Dead.

I wasn't exactly sad at John Marston's death in Red Dead Redemption, but it was one of the few times I've wanted to see a video game character (Edgar Ross) suffer.

Snake teaming up with his mommy in MGS4 hit me a lil.
The graphics and ending of Journey made me pause to reflect.

The biggest I can think of is probably Dark Souls and Nier Automata. Both kind of helped me learn to cope just a little bit better with depression. Theyve actually had a fairly decent impact on my world view overall, and definitely made me a better person.

Lost Odyssey because one particular scene happened right after an uncle of mine died.

More recently, ending E of Nier Automata.

Telltale's The Walking Dead Season 1, there were 2 moments that really grabbed my by the throat: Ep 3 when Duck dies and at the end of Ep 5 when Lee dies.

Honorable mention goes to Ep 4, you come across a house, where in the attic a kid starved to death and turned. That also tugged on my heartstrings.

Nier: Automata kinda fucks with you an an existential level.

Final Fantasy IV made me kinda sad when the twins got turned to stone and Teller kills himself using meteor.

Shadow of the Colossus is set on the same level as Nier where once you realize the colossi are just trying to live their lives, you kinda feel like a dick.
