I think I liked that it was a little extra symmetrical

If I had to rank.... thimble > dog > iron > boot > wheelbarrow > hat > car > battleship

I'll agree with this, but also add that board game design has made leaps and bounds in the past fifteen years specifically. A lot of the old classics have been put to shame

I played mario kart monopoly a week ago and it was great fun. Not too long, a definite end, fun mechanic changes.

Supposedly, Monopoly: Tropical Tycoon is a genuinely good variant of Monopoly, with a lot of modern game design elements- unfortunately, one of them is a DVD when an app or just an event deck would be better, but playing for victory points instead of just money and having asymetric player abilities and goals make it a much better game.

I just wish I'd known that when I saw a copy in a charity shop instead of dismissing it as just another Monopoly. I really want to play it now.

Problem is that it will always rely too heavily on luck. Which isn't horrible for a shorter board game. But I don't want to invest hours into something that is ultimately dependent on a roll of the dice.
