I think overall they're an essential part in society, it seems often that mistakes or their negative actions get blown out of proportion and get more media coverage than they deserve compared to the invaluable successes they provide. Though I also wish they'd spend more time solving important crimes like theft and murder than minor drug charges and especially speed traps.

I used to think they were alright but now i can no longer respect police after having a friend get arrested and seeing some shit they do. And the reason my view changed is because of the police themselves.

But of course that doesnt mean i act like an edgy meathead around cops. Still act polite and respectful even if i distrust em.

I was thinking about this the other day. And meant to ask if everything was alright now. I can't remember if you told us or not. But I was wondering if he was found "Not Guilty" on not...

Well Link...gonna be brief but i still belive he did nothing wrong. Our belief(mine and his as hes been calling often) is that somebody in the family or a family friend did it and my friend is being used as a scapegoat. Police still seem to have no evidence. Trial is set for november and while things could change between now and then...this should go his way.

I see. Well I wish him the best of luck. And I hope that if he's innocent, he can beat this trial.

Problem with police as with many professions is that it's not particularly well paying for what you have to put up with. Which means you don't have many people who are just doing it as a means to pay the bills; You just have people who do it because they really believe in it and people who do it because they want something the job provides other than the money.
The latter in this case being control and authority. So in a way the job is selecting people with a superiority complex and people who want to have guns and wear an outfit. People who are the exact opposite personality types that you want to have doing exactly that job. I like to think there are more police who fall into the category of wanting to upholding the law than not. But the good ones don't do enough to police (haw) the assholes among them who don't belong.

Sometimes, there's just to many for them to police. Plus, it depends on who's in charge overall. And then, there are the new, young ones. My mom does not like them much. Apparently, a suspect almost got away because they didn't want to hold his arm on the way in the station. Then when he was running away, they didn't call it in because they didn't want to get in trouble.

I generally dislike the police, seeing as the requirements to get into the force aren't stringent enough. I appreciate the few decent cops I have encountered. Most cops in my city exist to harass homeless people. I grew up in a town where the cops mostly confiscated weed from minors/young adults without writing tickets, AKA taking said weed for their own consumption.

Compare the amount of knowledge/schooling/training one needs to be a police officer, compared to other life/death services that aid the public - nursing comes to mind. The majority of police officers in Canada/USA receive inadequate training, and the low-bar set for the average police force contributes to the bad image the police have to many.

I do know some good officers, of course! I also happen to have known some real 'Homer Simpsons' of policing too lmao

The way I see it, everyone is lazy and cuts corners at their job and does the bare minimum then everyone complains about the shitty service and how lazy everyone is.

On top if that everyone thinks they have the hardest job in the world and how much better they could be at someone else's.

Then on top of that everyone hates their clientele and how ignorant or how much of an asshole they are.

It doesn't matter what field, or proffession, level of intelligence or experience. This all leads to misconceptions of how we should act and be treated or what we think we do and dont deserve, which is a recipe for getting shot and most likely deserving it.

The occasional one is a decent person, but a lot of them are lazy dickheads. I do have a bit of sympathy for them, though, their job is to deal with the trash of humanity, day in and day out, and when they're not dealing with that, they're answering bullshit calls like people accidentally setting off their own security systems.

For the most part I dislike American police. They abuse their power, are overpaid, and more often than not, less about maintaining order, and more about bullying citizens who don't deserve it.

I respect the ones who put their lives on the line to actually do good in society. It's no easy task going into random, very dangerous situations.

Cops have paperwork to fill. Lots of monotonous, tedious paperwork. Being able to type quickly enough helps with that.

Also, they have computers inside their damn patrol cars, which they have to type into periodically.

They're good but way too many of them have a judgemental attitude about what they do. Leave that to the court system, nobody asked for your opinions, nor do most of them have the credentials or background experience to judge. And I used that word in the professional sense, as in the court system. Their job is to bring people in, not pass a sentence.

I think they're probably mostly redundant at best. Like I live in a fairly low-crime area but the police are always around and they're mostly like, sitting in empty parking lots or behind grocery stores. It's unsettling. And while I've never been bothered by them personally, I can't say I've ever been helped by them or felt safer for having them around either.

Despise them. For several reasons. The primary reason being the extortion that they commit on such a regular basis. Fines for the sake of satisfying quotas in order to generate revenue for the state=extortion.

I've also had personal experiences with them that have all been terrible.

One night we're at a party, we are all of age, and two people get in a fight over a girl. We call the cops. So the cops get there and immediately start drawing their weapons on everyone and forcing us all into a circle where they search us at gunpoint. When we called them to help us. My one friend was passed out and not waking up quickly enough, so a cop felt it necessary to hold his eye open and pepper spray him directly on the eye ball from an inch away.

Another incident was when we were underage. Fair, it was illegal. Cops showed. We all went to court. And guess what. Charges dropped against everyone, because one of the officers groped a fourteen year old girl when 'searching' her.

Another time, my twin brother when he was fifteen was skateboarding behind a post office on a Sunday. Cop pulls up. Does he kick him out? Drive him home? Cite him with a small ticket? No. He handcuffed him and left him in the back of a hot car for two hours.

And also, the fact that they kill ten thousand dogs a year, mostly to shut them up when they commit no knock raids is despicable. The 40% spousal abuse rate is obscene, considering that it's double the normal rate for non cops. And civil asset forfeiture is quite literally a racket used to steal money from people before they are even convicted. Yet I never see any 'good cops' saying 'hey maybe we shouldn't kill so many dogs, beat our wives, or steal money from people who haven't been convicted. Maybe we shouldn't stick up for off duty officers who commit premeditated murder by slapping them on the wrists and intentionally failing to fully investigate them? Maybe we shouldn't rehire officers that were fired from other departments for unethical practices?' 'Good' cops won't cross that thin blue line in order to purge their bad apples, so in my opinion that means 'good' cops don't exist. A few bad apples ruin the bunch, and they'd rather stew with some rotten apples than maintain their integrity.

So tldr: fuck the police

Police also pay millions of dollars to Congress every year (that they get from stolen tax revenue I might add) in order to lobby to keep my epilepsy medication listed as a federally banned substance. Because if you can steal money from people in order to maintain your racket of stealing more money from people via fines and civil asset forfeiture, then why not, right? Who cares if people suffer, who cares if the opioid epidemic is exacerbated, so long as the revenue stream remains open.

We also had three men try to break into our house the night before Thanksgiving at 3 am. So I call the cops. Their response? "Did they get in? No? Ok call us when they do".

This so much. You arent a good cop when you when you remain silent and turn a blind eye and passively or actively take part in rampant corruption.

It doesn't help me like them any more when there are so many that I cant drive a half mile down the road without seeing some lazy dickhead cop on the side of the road with his dick in his hand... and he's probably taking a whack off break before he decides to start extorting money out of people who are living paycheck to paycheck again.
