Just a general, open-ended question.

What do you use at work? A laptop/desktop? Which operating system?

What about at home? Laptop/desktop? Operating system?

Do you usually bypass computers now, and just use a phone/tablet?

Has any of this changed, and why?

Desktops all the way. I mean, I own a laptop, but I use it once in a blue moon. Desktops are just so much more comfortable

Non-Windows all the way, except for at work where I don't have a choice in the matter

Windows desktop at home.

Windows laptop at work, at least before I quit my job, lol.

Funny you make this topic today, because I'm about to set up a Linux dual-boot on my home system! Recent developments with Proton are chipping away at the game compatibility gap between Linux and Windows, which is really the only thing keeping me on Windows at this point.

Windows 7. Dreading its end of life, as W10 is awful, Linux still isn't viable as a gaming OS, and macOS isn't viable as anything.

Windows 10 is fine.

I briefly had Win10, as part of their free 'upgrade' offer. Literally the first thing it did was download a bunch of crap that I've been actively trying to keep away from my computer, without even telling me it was doing it, let alone asking me for permission. That's not an OS, that's the textbook definition of malware.

By the way I guess my hate for Windows 10 is not really fair (no, not because I am Nanis)
As I view it from a sysadmin eyes and not from a home user
But I just loathe Server 2016 (which is actually Windows 10, but modified for a Server role, so it's the same design)
It's absolute shit, everything that was so simple in Windows 7/Server 2008 (and hell even Server 2012) is hidden in 2016, requires 30 button clicks to get into instead of 2, and stuff that should be combined is split between the windows 7 esque and the Windows 8 esque

Maybe it's better to explain with a picture what I mean
https://imgur.com/yrU3lFu
Windows 7 only has the classic "Control Panel" we all know and love
But starting with Windows 8 I think, they also included this idiotic "Windows Settings" and now everything is a mess
User accounts? split in two
Personalizition? split in two
Ease of Access? Time and Language? yep, the same thing
And it's not like you get two different GUIs that has the same things - nope, those are split
Want Windows Update? gotta get there from the "Windows Settings"
But you want to view Installed Updates? gotta get there from the old control panel, it's fucking idiotic dumb shit
Then you have other nuisances such as User Account Control not disabling entirely with the GUI and you need to to change a registry key to disable it (might be Windows Server issue and not Windows 10 though)

work: Windows 7 desktop, basically a toaster

home: Windows 8 laptop. 8 is mildly annoying, but not worth the effort to change. I've been thinking of switching to a desktop since I don't really bring my laptop anywhere these days (for weekend trips and the like, I'll just use my phone).

Windows 7

Windows 10 is basically the worst of both worlds. It's an un-intuitive user interface and doesn't allow you to control as much as your typical un-intuitive user interface would allow you to-- it actively prevents you from controlling a lot of things and sabotages your attempts to do so. I sure do like reinstalling a VPN every few windows updates because Windows 10 deems it's not compatible, even though it is with the proper workaround.

I'll make the full jump to some random Linux distro (I currently use some random fedora version for what Linux stuff I currently do but if I were to go full bore I'd actually look through the options a bit better) before I jump to 10.

Windows 8.1 is pretty okay too honestly I just like 7's interface a bit better.
