So uh I'm getting rolling in Part 2 and umm is this segment of the game actually completely non-linear? It didn't dawn on me until I got Rab after Sylv and he came at a lower level, but it seems like now that I've got the boat I can do things however I want! That's super fucking awesome if so.

pretty much although I went and got everyone first so when I did all the stuff in the lower half in the map it only had Hero/Hendrink/Rab/Sylvando in all the cutscenes because they couldn't guarantee you had everyone else yet so it was kind of weird but I understand why

Nevermind, talked to a guy on the other side. All dead stuff came back to life so, yeah, there really wasn't much to be done since the desecration actually happened and plowing down the gravestones is probably better for the loved ones who saw their loved ones try to kill people probably...

I've done all the optional post-game content currently available to me and got my characters all to level 99

really all that's left is finishing up the Part 3 story and all the stuff involved in the final sidequest

after you fill out all 4 mini medal boards you unlock a mini medal shop where you can trade them in for various rare crafting materials

in the trial dungeons and the black horse racing you can farm unlimited mini medals

they talked about it on the 8-4 play podcast and they obviously had played the japanese version last year and when they found out the north american version had a dash button they were shocked because they thought the normal running speed was fast enough.

Which it is I almost never use it when in new areas, but I definitely use it when backtracking and farming materials

The stronger enemies draconian challenge (which really feels like a standard difficulty to me so I can't imagine how easy the "normal" mode is,) the visual UI (JP basically had a very simple NES style interface), voice acting, dashing and more are all unique to the western version.

it's why I was always sure this game would come over because seeing those japanese cutscenes where they're just as they are here but with no voice acting was super jarring like they were made to always have voice acting in them.

After the fact turns out I was making it harder for myself than I should have

The true final bosses first form can be defeated instantly if you use the sword of light as an item, then his 2nd form isn't nearly as bad

now that I've finished it and seen the true ending I can confirm it has accomplished for me what no other game has done in 24 years and dethrone Final Fantasy VI as my favorite RPG of all time to me this is the the pinnacle of Dragon Quest.

True, but honestly that felt more like a mislead than anything in order to initially fool people into thinking that Erdwyn might be Erdrick. Especially since his companions also have classic DQ3 designs. They purposely released screenshots of them before release to make it look like DQ3 Erdrick was in the game lol
